- Klinger happens upon a bottle of vintage French wine and Hawkeye uses it to lure a nurse into his clutches. Winchester deals with Klinger to get more bottles of the wine. Col. Potter trades with the Canadians for a special anesthetic forbidden by the U.S. Army.—Kathy Hofmann
- Curare is a anesthetic banned by the US army, as its improper (& excessive) use is causing too many deaths. It speeds up surgery as it puts the entire body into paralysis. Anaesthetics like Nitrogen Oxide, put the brain to sleep, but the muscles of the body are still awake. Its only the US that has banned curare, all the other countries involved in the Korean war continue to use it in their surgical procedures. Hawkeye strikes out with the nurses. None of them wants to go on a date with him and drink his cheap still gin. They tell Hawkeye that there is nothing new in his dates, all the novelty and suspense is gone.
Klinger meets Colin Turnbull (Charles Hallahan) a company clerk at the Canadian unit fighting in the Korean war. Colin was carrying supplies back to his unit, but was detoured by enemy artillery and decided to stop in for some rest at the 4077th. Klinger treats Colin to lunch in the mess tent and Colin loves the fruit cocktail (he loves the whole food, which astonishes Igor). Klinger packs him a whole box. In return Colin offers him a bottle of French wine (from a crate that he was carrying back to his unit). He got it at the British PX for $3.
Klinger happens upon a bottle of vintage French wine and he trades it to Hawkeye to settle his $5 debt with him. Turns out the bottle is a '47 Margaux and a rare wine, for Winchester is willing to offer $25. Winchester deals with Klinger to get more bottles of the wine & offers him $30 per bottle.
Meanwhile Hawekeye posts a notice on the bulletin board for a date, asking nurses to describe why they should be "chosen" for the '47 Margaux. He get a few rejects and a "hot & sexy" from a person named "sweet preserves". The date is on. On the appointed night, Nurse Palmer (Margie Impert) walks in and seduces Hawkeye, but just before the critical start of romance, the entire nursing staff walks in and devours his bottle of wine. Margaret says this is a lesson to Hawkeye to think he could buy a woman with wine.
Col. Potter trades with the Canadians for the curare forbidden by the U.S. Army as his surgeons are having trouble in the OR and Potter himself believes it is a stupid rule to Ban it. He goes via Klinger to arrange the trade for some O2 canisters. Potter also wants Klinger to ride with him for the pickup as he doesn't want any other doctor in hot water over the use of Curare. Klinger decides to trade Colin for 5 more wine bottles in exchange for fruit cocktails and charges Winchester $40 per bottle. The trade takes place, but on the way back the jeep overheats and Klinger has no water canister. Potter uses the wine as a coolant to restart the jeep and get out of the active war zone. The OR has the curare, but Winchester refuses to pay for the jeep infused wine (Klinger offers the whole batch for $15).
