Ox Martin (John Doucette) and his gang rob the stage. They only get a few thousand dollars but Ox takes the mail pouch too. He suspects that prospector Sam Dingle has mailed a letter with his claim to a huge gold strike in it. And Ox finds that letter. Now he plans to file that claim himself and be rich forever. But first he has to eliminate Sam. The Ranger and Tonto quickly figure out what's going on and they plan to register the claim for Sam first. its a race to the claims office in Desert City and Ox's henchman Pinky Nugent wins the race. But the sheriff and claims agent figure out that the letter with the claim had be taken from the stage the day before. Now the Ranger and Tonto have to protect Sam and his daughter Peggy from Ox Martin. Elaine Riley plays Peggy. She was married to Richard Martin (Chito Rafferty) for many years. Francis Ford plays Sam. He was a highly regarded actor and director in the silent era. It was Francis who gave his younger brother John Ford his start in the movie business. After John gained great success in Hollywood, Francis often had small roles in John's films. Most notable was as the beaded old Irish townsman in "The Quiet Man" (1952).
