- TriviaWhen the boys arrive at the amusement park, the 'establishing shot' shows the Fun Zone entrance to the amusement area at the Los Angeles County Fair, as it appeared in the 1950s. (The entrance sign has since been removed, though the amusement area still exists.) The scenes on the roller coaster used stock footage of the classic wooden Cyclone Racer at The Pike in Long Beach, California. That roller coaster, as well as most of the amusement area around it, has been removed and replaced since the footage was shot. During the ride, the iconic roof of Looff's Lite-a-Line gaming hall can be seen, as well as several identifiable buildings in nearby downtown Long Beach.
- GoofsWhen Beaver and the others are boarding the coaster, there is another seat in front of the one that Wally, Beaver, and Bill take. After that, though, all the shots of the coaster ride are of a two-seat car, with Wally, Beaver, and Bill in the front seat, and Eddie and Lumpy in the rear seat. There are no other cars attached to it, either in front of or behind it, for the rest of the sequence.
- Quotes
Eddie Haskell: Alright, if this little squirt is goin' then I'm not goin'. What do you think of that?
Wally Cleaver: Alright, then you're not goin'.
Eddie Haskell: Who says I'm not goin'?
Wally Cleaver: Well you just said it.
Eddie Haskell: Well, alright, I guess I'll go. But if I knew four other guys that would speak to me, I wouldn't let you push me around like this.
- ConnectionsFeatured in The New Leave It to Beaver: Gosh, Wally (1988)
David Butler, who had a long career working with child actors, like Shirley Temple, did his job. He got everything he was looking for. It also showed what a talented cast was on this show.
For all of us LEAVE IT TO BEAVER addicts, this was great stuff back in the day and even better today.
The story is simple, but blasts off in so many directions. Beaver doesn't mind going to the amusement park --it's just the monster roller coaster that scares him to death! However, there's that TV-land twist of fate. Beaver works up enough nerve to conquer his fears, BUT now it's solid as a rock Eddie who wants to hit the brakes?
The rest of the story is something out of the THREE STOOGES. The more the coaster goes up and down and around, the more Eddie goes nuts. The guy is positively horrified. He hangs onto Lumpy as his safety net, and watch their faces. Priceless!
David Butler also tossed in some sound effects and goofy screams to add to the chaos... while Beave has the best time of all. It's the wild screams that make the scene and will cause you to laugh out loud.
One to see and see again. The amusement park scenes were lifted from the old Pike Park at Long Beach and perfectly edited into this unforgettable episode. Also a bit of southern California history.
Perhaps one of the best episodes of the entire series.
SEASON 5 remastered. Thank you METV.
