The first part of the episode entitled "Heat" is an homage to the film. The plot of the episode (and film) follows the city's residents as they cope with a grueling heat wave as everyone's discomfort smolders and builds until it explodes into chaos and violence. Many visuals including framing, blocking, mise en scène, the use of Dutch angles,
Spike Lee's orange tinted summer filter, and various story elements plus the jazzy score and disc jockey narrator were paid tribute in the episode.
