Young Ted Rorchek (Andrew Stevens) has second thoughts about being a firefighter after things go wrong on a rescue.
An episode of Irwin Allen's final TV series - Code Red. This is The Towering Inferno, Emergency and Bonanza all rolled into one. Despite only lasting 20 episodes, the series did inspire some viewers to become firefighters so it served a purpose.
Today, only six episodes are available (on Youtube) and this hour reveals that the show probably would have lasted longer if it spent less time on that obnoxious brat Danny (Adam Rich) and more time on Ted (Andrew Stevens).
The Bonanza-type scenes between father Lorne Green and son Ted work well and at last the viewer feels like this is a FAMILY of firefighters and not just a bunch of actors.
However, on a production level, the hour is a bit average as one fire rescue looks like something out of Saturday morning TV - not something we expect from Irwin Allen the master of disaster!
Burnout is okay but another episode titled - Fireworks - is better.
