- Diane and her date, Jordan Brundidge, have managed to secure reservations at the latest "it" restaurant in Boston called The Cafe. Sam thinks that perhaps he should take his latest conquest, Darlene, there as well. Diane laughs in his face as The Cafe is not the type of place one can call up on the spur of the moment and expect a table. Sam thinks that he can seeing to his local celebrity status. He calls and Diane seems to be right. Even Frasier can't manage to call in a favor from an old colleague, Dr. Julian Weinstein, a world famous transplant surgeon and gourmet, who would be able to get a last minute reservation there. Sam does whatever it takes to show his superiority over Diane in this matter, even if it takes a little false advertising. His false advertising leads to an uncomfortable night both for himself and Diane. Meanwhile, Woody is determined to concoct a new bar drink that doesn't taste like sewer water.—Huggo
- While Woody attempts to come up with his own signature bar drink, Diane happily proclaims to Sam that she and her date have a reservation at an upscale restaurant called "The Cafe." When Sam considers taking a date of his there, Diane explains that the reservations list is very exclusive. Sam attempts to use his status as a former baseball star to see about getting a table, but this doesn't work.
Sam then calls pretending to be Diane's date, and cancels the reservation, calling up a few seconds later as himself hoping to snare their table...only to find that it isn't so easy. Frasier attempts to help Sam by calling in a favor to a friend of his, named Dr Julian Weinstein. However, the Doctor has no remembrance of knowing Frasier.
When Diane and her date get to The Cafe, they find that the reservation has been cancelled. Diane insists they wait for another table to become available, but is even more shocked when Sam and his date show up and take an available table, with Sam claiming to be Dr Julian Weinstein. Diane quickly tells Sam that his ruse is not going to work, and he'll be exposed for who he really is.
Sam has his hands full in trying to order from the menu, as talk to several people who happen to know Dr Weinstein. After the meal ends, Sam and his date leave, only to find Diane still waiting for a table (her date has gotten hungry and gone across the street to Kentucky Fried Chicken). The maitre'd insists that they have stopped seating for the evening, but Sam (pretending to still be Dr Weinstein) insists Diane be seated.
Diane is given a seat, but is informed that what is left for food is limited. Sam then returns (having put his date in a cab and sent her home), and helps Diane order.
Sam also orders for himself, but at the close of the meal, finds he has no cash left. Sam attempts to ask Diane to help him out, but she pays for her meal and leaves, leaving Sam in a tough situation.
Sam attempts to pay with his credit card, claiming he got someone else's instead, as well as offers to write a personal check. When the maitre'd suspects something, Sam attempts to run with the maitre'd hot on his heels.
