- Norm is swamped with painting work, so Rebecca and Woody suggest he hire some painters to work under him. Norm is reluctant as he wouldn't know how to act as the boss. He does end up hiring three guys - Rudy, John and Scott - who end up being more buddies than employees. Their work ethic is lax. When Norm thinks out loud that he needs to hire another tough guy to be the boss, Frasier suggests that all he needs to do is develop an alter ego. The alter ego Norm develops is named Anton Kreitzer, who is akin to a Nazi dictator. To further the masquerade, Norm rents office space for him and Kreitzer, and hires a meek secretary named Doris, who obviously has never met Kreitzer despite sitting outside his office every day. Rudy, John and Scott want to confront Kreitzer for his rough treatment not only of them but of Norm as well. Will Rudy and the guy's figure out Norm's ruse? Meanwhile, Sam is trying to save money to buy back the bar, but things are going slowly. Rebecca suggests he sell his beloved Corvette to raise the money. After deliberating, he decides to do so, but he makes the process difficult for anyone to buy the car. After selling it and getting a cheaper replacement vehicle, he has seller's remorse. Can he get his beloved car back?—Huggo
- Sam still intends to buy back the bar, but is running low on funds. At the insistence of several of his friends, he decides to sell his Corvette. The process doesn't go as smoothly as one would assume, as Sam's criteria that it be given to someone who will take care of it is rather time-consuming, and when he does find someone to buy it, he suffers a severe case of 'seller's remorse.'
Meanwhile, Norm's job painting builds up to the point that Rebecca and Woody recommend he hire some people to help him. Norm is unsure of this, as he's never been a boss before.
He eventually hires three guys, but given their chummy attitude to Norm, they rarely end up getting anything done. Norm wants the guys to do their job, but doesn't want to break off the camaraderie with the guys. It is then that Frasier suggests that Norm create a boss-like alter-ego to get the guys to work.
Norm does this, creating the persona of Anton Kreitzer (FYI, Kreitzer was Vera's maiden name), a man who is never seen, but when talking to the guys, is intense enough to get them to do their job. Norm even goes so far as to rent an office and hire a secretary for Anton.
However, the treatment soon gets to be too much for the guys, and they intend to confront Anton, also feeling that he is being hard on Norm as well.
Norm manages to convince the guys that he has taken care of Anton, but shortly thereafter, the guys show up at Cheers and realize they've never seen Anton. They assume that Norm IS Anton, and that 'Norm' was just a nice-guy ruse to spy and make sure that they were doing their job.
Norm pleads with the guys that he really is Norm. To prove it, he greets the bar, only to be met with a rousing cry of, 'Anton!'
