The Improbable Dream: Part 1 (#8.1)

Warning: Spoilers
Rebecca has erotic dreams about Sam. She tells it to Frasier and Lilith but Sam overhears it.. He tells it to others and asks for advice on how to use it. Carla gives him one. He gets Rebecca to sleep and gets into her office but it doesn't go the way he wanted. Still she thinks she should try it with him until Robin Colcord walks in.

A nice start of the season. One already wonders what is about to happen. It was just weird how Carla was so into Sam in this episode. Wonder if it will go on, I hope not.

The Cranes talking to Rebecca about her dreams was the best part. They make me laugh all the time

Sam's NIghtmare
Hitchcoc30 August 2019
Rebecca has been having dreams about Sam, sexual fantasies. Of course, Sam and the gang get wind of this and he begins his prowling. Rebecca is like the Roadrunner. Sam is obsessed with her for some unknown reason. Certainly, she is attractive, but he has all these other women. Not only that, She treats him like the dirt that he really is. When she finally wants to give in to him to get the monkey off her back, so to speak, something intervenes.

Look At What I'm Dreaming About!

Warning: Spoilers
Season Eight opens with a brilliant premiere, and here is the story behind it: Supposedly producers decided the show needed a change, so they wrote an episode about Sam running off to Europe and getting married! He comes back to the bar and the season was going to focus on him dealing with- and possibly divorcing- his new exotic wife. Legend has it they were ready to begin shooting when they scrapped the idea, and in just 48 hours the writing/producing team of Cheri Eichen and Bill Steinkellner (who would later marry) came up with the idea of Rebecca having erotic dreams and the character of Robin Colcord. And this episode would go on to win James Burrows an Emmy for Directing.

The idea of Robin Colcord was genius. This was the late 1980's when robber barons were plundering Wall Street and greed was a religion. So the thieving Robin was a perfect addition. And the episode is spectacular... the characters all come back to life with this new juicy plot line, especially Rebecca who becomes genuinely sympathetic- and comically tragic- during the course of the season.

The name is perfect as well- Robin Colcord spends his time robbin' from people, and since his name is dropped casually between Donald Trump's and Ted Turner's you never doubt that he is a real millionaire financier.

This is beautiful across the boards, an episode that rejuvenated the series and set the pace for the great Season Eight.
