- Diane goads Sam by dating other men, namely Chad. Sam doesn't seem to care, but does. They have a battle over who can bother whom the most by Diane's act or Sam's reaction. Meanwhile, Norm has added financial counselor to his resume and has made a tidy profit for one of his grateful clients. The gang at the bar all want in on Norm's next big investment opportunity, but he is reluctant to tell them what it is as business and friendship don't mix. Easily plied with free beer by Sam, Norm does reveal his next investment: Tan 'N' Wash, a combination tanning salon/ coin-operated laundry. Despite being skeptical, Sam, Diane, Cliff and Carla all buy in fearing losing out on Norm's winning streak. Despite moving into the winter season when people are searching for an easy tan, the timing may not be quite right as Boston is experiencing an Indian summer. The questions become whether the four nervous investors will weather the financial storm, whether Norm will indeed let them out of their investment, and whether their friendship can survive the ill feelings stemming from the possibility of each losing their entire investment.—Huggo
- Norm has a new investment scheme that he is reluctant to reveal, but soon, Sam, Carla, Diane, and Cliff want in on the action. After investing in the unknown venture, it is soon revealed to be a tanning salon/coin laundry called 'Tan n' Wash.' Sam and Cliff partake in the tanning beds, and even get Frasier along (though he ends up being burned by a malfunctioning bed).
Norm tries to peddle coupons to 'Tan n' Wash' at Cheers, but the weather outside is still very hot. While Norm tells the others that they need to give the investment time, everyone angrily assumes that Norm made a poor business decision. Norm leaves the bar, promising to refund their investment within the next week.
A week later, a heavy snow has descended on Boston, and the others in the bar now resent the fact that they have lost out on an investment that has made Norm rich. Norm eventually returns to the bar in high spirits, but noone is willing to congratulate him or say anything kind. Feeling unwanted, Norm attempts to leave when Diane explains that they really should be treating him better, and the others warm up as well. It is then that Norm reveals that he didn't actually return their investments, and presents the group with dividend checks. Happy at their good fortune, Sam, Carla, Cliff and Diane rush out to play in the snow, leaving Woody and Cliff at the bar. Just then, Norm receives a troubling phone call, and goes to talk to the others.
It turns out that due to the weight of the snow, the roof on 'Tan n' Wash' has collapsed...and there is no insurance to cover the damages. Norm attempts to say this with a cheery disposition, but is met with a barrage of snowballs.
