There is a lot of give and take in the very beginning of this episode. Rebecca's flat out insensitivity is quite amazing. The discussion of people wanting to assassinate Robin is really funny. There are some moments on the boat that work OK but it is anticlimactic.

Sam Ahoy (#8.12)

Warning: Spoilers
Robin is getting death threats. Robin also needs to go on a sudden business trip and needs Sam to go sail his boat Rebecca for him. Sam goes together with Carla and Norm. They don't do too well in the competition. And after Sam also finds a boat on the boat. Luckily they still survive.
This sounds like a pretty exciting episode, but to be honest it wasn't. It was actually pretty boring with lame text. I can only think of one moment that really made me laugh. It is Rebecca telling with this pride in her face how Robin has threats of being assassinated. Kirstie Alley was great in it.

Warning: Spoilers
Sam enters Robin's boat in a regatta only to discover it's rigged with a bomb. Wow, I can't believe I wrote that sentence. Can't even believe that sentence became an episode of Cheers. It's not awful, of course- few Cheers are- but it is unusual and very broad and not very memorable.
Carla agrees to accompany Sam on the boat because she's "used to being around sailors" (?) and Norm is convinced to join them when he is assured there will be a cooler of beer on board.
You see, because, Norm likes beer.
Brilliant writing aside the three schnooks hit the high seas and then start panicking when they find the bomb, beginning a series of high-energy physical gags that won't make anyone forget the Stooges. Whoever said every punchline was funnier when it was howled in fear needs to re-read the book of comedy. The magical boat has curtains over the windows so we never see sky, water, or any other establishing shot that would convince us these people are anywhere other than Studio 12 on the Paramount lot.
The nicest part about this episode is the late-night bull session at the bar, when the group listens to the exciting story of survival. The after-hours meeting has a nice relaxed vibe. Then Robin shows up and we finish out on a weak laugh. There's just not anything substantial in the whole show. Sail on, sailor...
