Warning: Spoilers
Welcome to Season Seven! Rebecca is still heartbroken over the loss of Evan Drake, and desperate enough to actually agree to a date with Sam. Producers weren't sure how much longer the show was going to continue, so they used this Season Premiere to put Sam back in charge of the bar, a move they would probably regret if they knew at the time that there would be four more seasons after this.

In this episode Rebecca officially goes from screw-up to Tragic Wreck, as she shows up in the bar filthy, weeping and disheveled. She also gets about five times funnier... there's something about her being absolutely helpless and doomed that just gives me the giggles. She's the perfect 80's corporate cautionary tale.

If they had the Season Seven premiere to do over again I believe the writers and producers would stick to a simpler, more lighthearted storyline, because the ending of this episode handicaps the show's premise and as a result would shortly be reversed: Rebecca ends up a waitress and co-manager of the bar with Sam. This episode marks the first appearance of Melville's, the seafood restaurant above Cheers which was frequently referenced but never before seen. A very funny episode but there would be better ones to come.

Sam Is Back in the Game
Hitchcoc27 August 2019
Rebecca has watched her possibilities go down the drain due to her own foolishness. She has no patience. Now Evan is gone, another guy whom she has never met, is in charge. She is so enamored with money, she starts coming on to him--same result. This time she is fired and Sam is given her position. But Sam, full of self interest, works to get her the bar back, but under horrendous conditions. Good season opener.

"She means the time Diane was still here" "I know precisely what she means"

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode we have two intertwining storylines : Sam tries once again to invite Rebecca out, and finally succeeds and however it all goes downhill when just as they are about to go out,the new company owner ends up giving Sam the old manager position back and fires Rebecca. I thought this was a fine episode, nothing major about it, I actually prefer episodes that go more full circle with the characters, the supporting characters are totally left out in this one, and in the few seconds they are on screen, they are the best part of the episode. I think Sam and Rebecca relation starts to look to much like a remake of Diane and Sam , because of how long it takes them to actually get envolved, and I think with the major difference of being his boss, Rebecca is very similar to Diane (smarter than Sam, beautiful, kind of a know it all, and now we lose the major difference because Rebecca starts serving tables as Diane did) . I thought it was ok. 6/10 ****** Peter Shelby

How to Recede in Business (#7.1)

Warning: Spoilers
Now that Evan Drake is gone Rebecca thinks to concentrate on her career, only it looks like the bar did better under Sam and he becomes a new manager while she loses her job. Sam gets it back to her even though it has a lot of new things in it. First Rebecca doesn't want it but she is willing to do it for the Mercedes she wants to buy.

Didn't like the episode. I don't like the way it is turning. Nothing changed about Sam being after Rebecca. Now she is also somebody who has to waitress. A pathetic attempt to continue Diane/Sam nightmare? I neither like to see Rebecca losing her position of being the boss, nor do I like to see her being so broken. I prefer her to be a bit tougher.
