Coach's seemingly random references to Julius LaRosa were in fact a clever parallel to the plot. In October 1953 popular singer La Rosa (1930-2016) was famously fired on air by his megalomaniacal boss Arthur Godfrey.
Diane using My Dinner With Andre as a title while playing Charades is consistent with her character as it was *the* major "art house" hit of the previous year - exactly the kind of film Diane would like.
Coach and Sam tell a story about winning the division. The Red Sox did win the AL East division in 1975 and they clinched a tie for first place in the division in a game against Cleveland as is discussed. That game was the second half of a double header on September 26th at Fenway Park in Boston instead of in Cleveland. Additionally, the name of the Red Sox pitcher that won that game was Reggie Cleveland.
