- It's Halloween, and the Cranes are arguing about how much of the Halloween tradition, if any, to which they should expose Frederick. Another argument going on, one more traditional, is that between the gang at Cheers and the gang at Gary's Olde Towne Tavern, Halloween a day that bar wars of the prank kind happen. As Sam and the gang decide what to do to Gary and his bar - as Carla states, she wants to be on a winning side of a great scam - Gary already hits. But the pranks come to a screeching halt from Gary's side when he comes into Cheers and announces that he wants a truce as he was just diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure. Sam doesn't believe him and continues to plot. Checking how their own prank on Gary went over, the Cheers gang goes over to Gary's and finds him alone unconscious on the floor. Frasier checks: Gary isn't unconscious, but dead. Seeing Gary on the floor, Sam doesn't believe Gary's dead. After the police and coroner confirm Frasier's check, Sam doesn't believe Gary's dead. When one of Gary's bartenders gives Sam one of Gary's prized possessions, Sam doesn't believe Gary's dead. As Gary's funeral is announced, Sam doesn't believe Gary's dead. After Sam sees Gary inside the casket, Sam doesn't believe Gary's dead. As the casket is lowered into the ground, Sam doesn't believe Gary's dead. Is Gary dead? Regardless, Carla gets her wish.—Huggo
- Halloween is upon the gang at Cheers. While Rebecca remembers how her family never celebrated the holiday, Frasier and Lilith come to heads about having Frederick take part in the holiday, before they decide to dress up for the day.
Meanwhile, the Cheers bar is bracing for Gary of Gary's Olde Towne Tavern to prank the bar. Sam is surprised when the jukebox, the phone, and even the liquid dispenser at the bar begin playing a Halloween song. Soon after, Gary comes into the bar, and tells Sam and the gang that due to high blood pressure, he wants to call a truce and end the fighting.
After he leaves, the gang assumes it's another attempt by him to lull them into a false sense of security, and attempt to find some way to scare him. Frasier suggests that Lilith's science friends can help them create a hologram to scare everyone in Gary's and Sam and the others warm up to the idea.
After the hologram has been created, they sneak into Gary's to plant it...only to come across Gary's body on the floor. Sam assumes this is some kind of gag, but Frasier finds that Gary has no pulse, and is not breathing!
Over the next few days, the police and coroners comfirm Gary is dead, and even one of Gary's bartenders stops by to give Sam and the Cheers gang Gary's bowling trophy, claiming he left it to them. Sam refuses to believe any of this is true, even when a funeral is held for Gary, his body is seen inside the casket, and Sam is chosen as a pallbearer.
Sam then spends the rest of the day after the burial standing over Gary's grave, certain that he'll burst out of the ground at any moment, before Frasier and Norm lead him away.
The gang all return to Cheers, and Sam begins to believe that Gary really isn't faking his death. Claiming that he misses Gary causes Woody to break down in tears and rush for the Men's room. Sam goes to comfort Woody and bringing him back out, finding Woody sobbing into his hands. Seconds later, Sam realizes that it is actually Gary in disguise, and that everyone else in the bar was in on the whole scheme!
