No country shrewdness
A lot of good guest stars graced this Bonanza episode about a pair of brothers Jack Elam and Paul Brinegar who've lived most of their lives as desert rat prospectors have now struck it rich and are living high in Virginia City.
This comes to the attention of gambler Richard Devon and his girlfriend saloon singer Lola Albright. As Bonanza was a family show we could not be more explicit and say that Devon was her pimp. But in point of fact that's what he is. He sets her toward Elam who likes to spend big and he wants him spending on her until the well runs dry.
Elam who looks like Jed Clampett before and after he became an oil millionaire doesn't have Jed'd country shrewdness. It will take the Cartwrights to set them straight. Especially Hoss Cartwright.
Best part of this story is Dan Blocker putting his cowboy clothes, especially that 20 gallon hat he wore and donning some real nice apparel to court Albright to show her for the gold digger she is. Worth tuning in for that alone.
