Mark Shera (Shapiro) was a great addition to the series, and he had a following. It's episodes like this we fans loved because it gave him meatier roles, and built his character further. JR made mistakes, but he was humble and likable, and it's displayed here.
There's a super cast, lead by Rebecca Balding (who passed in 2022) playing a "woman of interest" to Barnaby, having been released from prison and may know where lots of money is hidden. She moves into an apartment, and quite cleverly, JR gets himself a space in the same building and attempts to make friends with her.
Of course! You know JR is going to fall for her... and then what? You can't help but get a little chuckle out of all this because JR is helpless romantic --at times. Rebecca Balding plays her part quite well, a very good dramatic actress who switched to comedy shortly after this episode and landed the role of Carol on the hit sitcom, SOAP.
Popular actor Christopher Stone plays Jack and veteran Charles Bateman is a must see. He worked for producer Quinn Martin for many years, frequently on CANNON and THE FBI. Best known to soap opera fans on SANTA BARBARA and DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
Excellent direction by Michael Preece (who headed five episodes for the series), Mark Shera and Rebecca Balding were well teamed here. Preece later moved on to directing several top episodes for DALLAS.
Good trivia note; Mark Shera appeared on an episode of MATT HOUSTON that co-starred Buddy Ebsen (in the 80s) and many episodes of MURDER, SHE WROTE. He retired from tv in 2002.
10 Stars for JR and old pro Barnaby, always watching his younger cousin like a good dad.
