- A TV reporter fakes a news story by hiring a stuntman to fake a suicide by jumping from a bridge. After a bystander is killed things spin out of control when the jumper's girlfriend hires Barnaby to find out what really happened.
- A TV reporter who will stop at nothing to get a big scoop -- up to and including inventing the story outright. He hires a professional stunt man to fake his own suicide by diving off a bridge while the reporter is there and the cameras roll. Just as the stunt man makes his leap, a priest who has been trying to talk the "suicide" out of jumping makes a last-ditch grab at the stunt man's clothing. As a result, both take a tumble into Los Angeles Harbor, and the priest is killed on impact. When the stunt man, who survived and is now hiding out, calls out the reporter on the inadvertent murder of an innocent man, the reporter throws HIM off a roof and kills him. Barnaby, Betty and J.R. set up a scheme where the reporter will "cover" still another phony story and implicate himself in the murder. When the reporter pulls a gun and tries to escape, J.R. tackles him. Lt. Biddle comes onto the scene and arrests the reporter for murder; the reporter then asks Biddle to let the reporter videotape his own capture. He gets his wish.—Peter Harris
- A cold, unscrupulous and overzealous TV reporter named DeWitt Robinson will stop at nothing to get an exclusive story. He resorts to reporting fake news and recruits Jim Wills to stage jumping off of a bridge. When a priest who tries to intervene accidentally gets killed, Robinson is unmoved, but Jim is emotionally scarred by the event and wants to reveal the staged scene. Jim's girlfriend Wendy is in town to see him, but can't locate him and hires Barnaby Jones to investigate. Meanwhile, Jim demands DeWitt to bring Wendy to see him, but the latter forbbid it. When he tries to convince Jim to do another stunt, Jim refuses, then they get into a fight which leads Dewitt to accidentally pushing Jim off the roof. After that, he tries to stage the fall as a real suicide, citing the guilt Jim felt after the priest's death. Barnaby is immediately suspicious of both deaths and probes deeper to find the answers.—charmardee-smith
- A TV reporter will stop at nothing to get a big scoop - even to the point of inventing the story outright. He hires a professional stunt man to fake his own suicide by diving off a bridge while the reporter is there and the cameras roll. But out of nowhere a priest unexpectedly appears and attempts to stop him from jumping. But just as the stunt man makes his leap, the priest who has been trying to talk the "suicide" out of jumping, makes a last-ditch grab at the stunt man's clothing, and as a result, both take a tumble into the Los Angeles Harbor. It is soon learned the priest was killed on impact. When the stunt man, who survived the fall and is now hiding out, calls out the reporter on the inadvertent death of an innocent man, the reporter gets desperate and throws *him* off a roof and kills him. Barnaby takes the case for the distraught girlfriend who refuses to believe he would kill himself. Barnaby, Betty and J.R. set up a scheme (the stunt man supposedly left a written confession of the phony jump and implicates the newsman) and Betty impersonates the stunt man's landlord, and agrees to swap the phony confession for an envelope of cash. When the two meet to make the switch, he soon realizes that he's been caught red handed - there's even a news crew there to get it all on tape. He pulls a gun and tries to escape but J.R. tackles him. Lt. Biddle comes onto the scene and arrests the reporter for murder; he then asks Biddle to let him videotape his own capture. He gets his wish. (Originally by Peter Harris )
