Sauce for the goose...
So, Mel decides to discipline Alice, Flo, and Vera by playing hardball--he brings in a time clock and demands that they punch in and out, and be precise about their work time! They even have to punch out and back in for breaks and lunchtime! Well, the girls decide that four can play at this game. Mel wants them to come in on Sunday to clean up the storeroom. But he doesn't intend to pay them for this extra work. Alice, Flo, and Vera don't see it that way. If the time clock can dock them for being late--Mel's claimed rationale for the time clock in the first place--well, it can also pay them for work on Sunday, whether he likes it or not! He doesn't want to pay them? Well, they'll go on strike! And the customers won't cross the picket line! The girls are vindicated when Mel junks the time clock at the end. He knows when he's licked...
