In keeping with our celebration of metal and anime here on Crunchyroll News, it's time to turn our attention to another band that's been influenced by the medium of anime in their creative process: Within Destruction. The Slovenia rockers sat down with me to chat about their latest single, "Animetal," and how their inspirations from anime have come to life. And what better way to do that than by premiering the music video for the song, right now, exclusively on Crunchyroll News? Check out the full interview below, where drummer Luka Vezzosi, vocalist Rok Rupnik, and guitarist Howie Fang break down their anime origins, but not before checking out the music video for "Animetal" right here: Can you tell me a little about your anime journey? How it started and where you are now? Did different members of the band have different pathways into anime? Luka: Everything started for...

Director Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two" is lighting the world on fire right now, much like Paul Muad'Dib's (Timothee Chalamet) jihad will be doing to the known universe after the movie's end. The sequel enjoyed a box office debut twice as big as the first "Dune" did in 2021. Unlike was the case with David Lynch's 1984 "Dune," which earned too little for sequels, it seems that Warner Bros. now has its next blockbuster franchise.
From the Worms to the Spice (which the movies hardly explain), the world of "Dune" is quite weird. One of this bizarre iceberg's tips is the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, leader of the Harkonnen feudal house. Played in the recent movies by Stellan Skarsgård, the Baron is about 600 pounds (reflecting his gluttonous wealth) and to get around, he doesn't walk, he floats with anti-gravity belts. Frank Hebert's original "Dune" books were an influence on...

Although these mainstream anime are a wild ride, with their unique stories, gorgeous art, and endearing characters, some anime go beyond the scope of ‘likeability’ and almost border on ‘insanity.’ Some of the best monster anime in the industry are like that.
Most monster anime in the anime world are psychologically driven shows that are not for every demographic. However, they all possess an allure that many anime fans simply cannot ignore. Here are some of the best monster anime of all time.

With the exception of genre masters like Junji Ito, anime and manga aren’t exactly the most horror-friendly mediums out there. However, from the Cenobite-inspired God Hand of Berserk to the near-Lovecraftian archeology of Made in Abyss, there’s no denying that Japanese artists often manage to sneak in some unexpected scares into their work.
And with decades of Japanese animation to choose from, there are bound to be at least a few oddball productions likely to satisfy audiences with a craving for animated frights. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six of the best anime for horror fans, as not all nightmares have to be in live-action!
While this list is obviously based on personal opinion, we’ll only be considering Japanese productions as proper “anime,” which means no Western animations like Netflix’s Castlevania! With that out of the way,...

Exclusive: Alcon Television Group has stepped up with a preemptive bid to snap up the rights to the Battle Chasers fantasy comic book series from prolific comic book artist Joe Madureira, which will be developed as a live-action TV series with John Wick creator Derek Kolstad attached to write and executive produce. The pact comes on the heels of the recent announcement that the popular comic series will return with a 10th installment after a 20-year hiatus.
Set in an arcane punk world, Battle Chasers follows a ragtag group of heroes: a disgraced, heartbroken swordsman, a cynical thief, a cranky wizard, a war machine with a kind heart, and a young girl whose missing father left her a pair of powerful magic gloves well beyond her capabilities. They must come together, despite their many, many differences, to stop a dark force rising in the land.

While the original series based on the manga by Kota Hirano aired from 2001 to 2002, the story of the Hellsing Organization was picked up again in “Hellsing Ultimate”, an original video animation, produced by Satelight and Geneon Entertainment, and followed the original source more closely, adding more details to the characters and their storylines. No matter which version you enjoyed, there is no denying the appeal of the combination of elements of classical horror and dark fantasy which provided the core for the series, along with such colorful characters like Alucard. It is a series whose visuals linger on with the viewer for quite some time, while also playing with the themes of the classic horror tales it refers to frequently, mainly sexuality, temptation and seduction. Because “Hellsing Ultimate” is widely regarded as being the superior adaptation of the source material, it will be the focus of this review.

Exclusive: Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter behind the John Wick series, is collaborating with Amazon Studios to develop a live-action feature film based on the iconic Japanese action-horror manga Hellsing.
“Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it,” Kolstad said. “And when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights to then partner us up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean -damn, dude- this is a dream.”
Written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano and published by Shōnen Gahōsha, Hellsing reimagines Dracula as Alucard, a special agent bound to The Hellsing Organization, under the leadership of Integra Hellsing, great-granddaughter of Abraham Van Hellsing, to aid them in their mission to protect England and the world from vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural threats. The manga also focuses on Hellsing’s newest recruit, a female ex-police officer named Seras Victoria.

Three years after Superman was pitted against General Zod in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is introducing two more of the Kryptonian’s rogues into the DC Extended Universe. Lex Luthor is serving as the movie’s main antagonist, while Doomsday will be unleashed at some point as the primary physical threat. Now a new cast member has been revealed that could set up a future appearance from another adversary: Emmet Vale, aka the creator of Metallo, the Kryptonite-hearted cyborg. Originally listed on IMDb, CinemaBlend has learned that actor Ralph Lister is indeed playing Emmet Vale. Lister’s other credits include Oz, the Great and Powerful, Beverlywood, Hellsing Ultimate and Lucky Jay, and he has also made a name for himself as an audiobook narrator. While Vale will presumably be a minor character in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, it does set ...

Almost six years after the release of the first episode, Geneon published a first trailer for the tenth and final episode of their Hellsing Ultimate Ova series. Expect lots of blood, fire and nazi madness.
To finally end the wait for the Us fans, FUNimation will release a Blu-ray Disc collection with the first four episodes in October. After that the following episodes will also be released.

Geneon has released a first trailer for the eight volume of the Hellsing Ultimate Ova series.
I didn’t follow the series after the Geneon Us breakdown back in 2007 so I have no clue what’s happening right now. Hopefully some distributor (FUNimation?) in the Western world will bring us the good stuff on Blu-ray Disc (the Japanese releases all lack English subtitles) someday…
