Off To Nova Scotia
boblipton11 August 2020
A couple gets married and goes on their honeymoon in Nova Scotia. As events go on, the husband displays a temper and gets punished for it.

It's a comedy in that term, with the humor consisting of watching the groom getting his comeuppance. Technically, this is a movie in twelve shots, or scenes; the camera is placed in a spot and the action plays against the background for a while, then usually there's a title and the scene shifts. The earlier, calmer shots, and the last one, are well over a minute. The ones in between turn over at a faster pace, indicating that the film makers were well aware that the shorter shot, the greater the excitement: another 'fact' discovered a dozen years later by the Academicians!

New Hampshire and Rye Beach stand in for Nova Scotia.

The Outdoors Photography Works Well
Snow Leopard8 September 2005
The outdoors photography is the best aspect of this short comedy. The story does have some amusing moments as well, though after a while it more or less runs out of steam. The movie is set in Nova Scotia, and was actually filmed in New Hampshire, which works fairly well in establishing the setting.

The story follows an eloping couple as they take their honeymoon, which sees the hot-tempered new husband getting himself into a series of silly squabbles. Most of it is the same basic gag simply repeated a number of times, with varying degrees of slapstick, but the settings and scenery make it seem a little more interesting than it would be by itself.

In a couple of the sequences, they use clam digging or other such touches to emphasize the "Acadian" setting. It is not always convincing, but for its time it works all right.
