Evangeline Lilly’s acting career has spanned 22 years, and in this period, she has worked in films like Real Steel, Crisis, The Hobbit, and many more films. However, her most iconic role would be that of Hope Van Dyne, which she has been portraying in Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man trilogy and Avengers: Endgame.

The role has not only earned her fame and love from fans around the world but also made her a critically praised name in the MCU. But what’s more surprising is that even though she has worked in four Marvel films, she has a remarkably modest net value compared to her peers.
Sadly, after entertaining movie enthusiasts for so many years, she has decided to step away from it all to follow her dharma.

A silent heroine, Canadian actress and author Evangeline Lilly managed to become popular despite never becoming part of the mainstream establishment. She made a name for herself in the series Lost and would later go on to achieve global fame by portraying Hope van Dyne in several MCU projects. Her performances have been praised on a regular basis, and her specific talent usually contributed to the quality of a project in a major way. Alongside the ones mentioned, she has also had memorable appearances in The Hurt Locker (2008), the sports drama Real Steel (2011), and in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit series, appearing in The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) as Tauriel.
But, while a lot of fans have been looking forward to her new projects, we have some disappointing news for them, as the actress has announced her retirement from acting on her Instagram profile.

Yesterday, Lost and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star Evangeline Lilly confirmed she's stepping away from acting for the foreseeable future. As a result, it appears her time as the McU's Hope Van Dyne has ended.
Lilly did leave the door open to possibly working in Hollywood again but seems to have no immediate plans to do so. In a statement shared with Variety, the actress also confirmed she's under no "contractual obligations to anybody."
That's almost certainly a reference to Marvel Studios and the fact she saw out her contract with the Ant-Man threequel.
"I have actually been on a hiatus from acting for the past three years already (since finishing work on 'Quantumania')," Lilly told the trade. "This time outside of the business has brought me a grounding sense of fulfillment and joy."

Marvel star Evangeline Lily has made a disappointing announcement about her career. She took to her social media to make the announcement. She has also been part of the MCU and The Hobbit franchise. Deadpool & Wolverine is not in theaters for almost another two months, but the hopes and aspirations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—and perhaps now the summer movie season box office itself—are already being placed on Ryan Reynolds’ broad, leather-clad shoulders. So it’s not like the Merc with a Mouth needed any more pressure. Yet pressure he might receive if the latest report out of Deadline is true: director Shawn Levy has entered early talks to helm the next Avengers movie.
The discussions are apparently in early stages, with the trade noting Levy has been handed the latest draft of the screenplay by Michael Waldron, but that Levy has apparently not decided if he would like to direct the film. Furthermore, Marvel Studios will continue approaching other directors while awaiting an answer about Levy’s interest. However, it would seem that Marvel has seen something they like in...

Director Shawn Levy may be sticking around the Marvel Cinematic Universe a bit longer.
Levy, who helmed this summer’s “Deadpool and Wolverine,” is being eyed by Marvel — though it’s in very early stages — to direct the next “Avengers” movie.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who made 2021’s Marvel movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” was previously supposed to direct the fifth “Avengers” movie, but he backed out in November 2023. That movie, which is scheduled for May 1, 2026, also does not currently have a title. It was originally named “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” but lost that title after Jonathan Majors, who was cast as the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror, was convicted of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend. After this untitled “Avengers” movie, the next will be “Avengers: Secret Wars,” set for May 7, 2027.

Deadline hears that Levy has been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, though sources add that he has not given an answer on whether he will take the job, and the studio is still planning to meet with other directors while they wait on a decision from him.
Marvel Studios could not be reached for comment.

These days Netflix’s global top is blown by a new sci-fi that turned out to be a failure. Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas, following an analyst on her space mission together with the onboard AI, received a shameful 19% of critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily, it has rekindled people’s interest in robot movies, as one of them is now recalled by Netflix audience. It has recently gained such a strong viewership that it is now holding the forth place in the platform’s chart, even though it was released 13 years ago.
The film’s plot revolves around Charlie, a boxer who was forced to retire from sports ‘cause the boxing ring was taken over by heavier and more powerful robots. That is why he starts living a routine of collecting scrap metal and making low-end fighters of it.

Evangeline Lilly wants Hollywood to lose her number.
The “Lost” alum shared that she is “stepping into [her] dharma,” much in line with the hit ABC series, and opting to step away from acting. Lilly included a 2006 video in which she said she aspired to be a “retired actress” by 2016 and focus on humanitarian work instead.
“Thank you @lost_theothers for digging up this (nearly twenty-year-old) footage of me speaking out my dreams under (what looks like) a full moon,” Lilly captioned the video. “And thank you to @femalepoetssociety for digging up this (much older) footage of the incredible #mayaangelou perfectly articulating how I feel about life.”
Lilly continued, “I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but...

One of the projects that made sure got the push to completion after the strikes had settled last year was Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel made sure that their much-hyped sequel to the popular Deadpool franchise would make its release this summer. Hugh Jackman’s return to the role and donning the iconic yellow costume is enough of a reason that got fans excited, and Jackman himself couldn’t believe it took this long to get to wear the comic-inspired suit. “We almost did it in The Wolverine,” Jackman said. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.“

The most anticipated release in the MCU this year is ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ It marks the franchise’s inaugural installment within the MCU, the first “R” rated movie in the MCU, and the directorial debut of Shawn Levy.
While the initial installment was helmed by Tim Miller and the sequel by David Leitch, it wasn’t unexpected to learn that the third installment would have a different director as well.
Unlike other candidates, Shawn Levy had personal reasons for accepting the opportunity to direct ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In a recent discussion with Empire, Levy revealed that he had missed a great opportunity years ago, one that he regretted declining all this time.
On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3. And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.

Shawn Levy has an impressive list of credits to his name, including Night at the Museum, Free Guy, and Stranger Things. Deadpool & Wolverine will be his biggest movie to date, but it isn't the first time a Marvel project has hit the filmmaker's radar.

However, before Reynolds pitched him on helming what was then Deadpool 3, Levy had already passed on the chance to take charge of 2013's The Wolverine!

Shawn Levy is an incredible filmmaker and is known for creating out-of-the-box and entertaining features. After helming the Night at the Museum movies to producing Stranger Things, his upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most anticipated features of recent times. Yet, before Levy was attached to the project, the star of the movie Ryan Reynolds was afraid that the filmmaker would say no.

When Shawn Levy was offered the chance to direct Deadpool & Wolverine, he quickly signed on not just because he loved the character but because of a major regret.
“On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3,” Levy told Empire. “And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.’ And my response was, ‘I’m not gonna f***ing say no, are you kidding? Under the new setup, Agbo’s technology experts will build proprietary creative tools, with the aim of fostering production innovation and cost efficiencies. The idea is for Agbo and its creative partners to be able to access the company’s emerging set of tools at every stage of development, production, and post-production.
Innovation will have three verticals: production technology, immersive technology and creative. It will be led by Jake Aust, who was recently promoted to Agbo’s Chief Innovation Officer. Agbo is going AI — at least it sounds like it is, at least in part.
The Russo Brothers’ independent studio announced on Wednesday the formation of a new Innovation department, which will blend Agbo’s “physical and virtual production capabilities.” The studio’s technologists will “build proprietary creative tools for storytellers, fostering production innovation and cost efficiency for content across diverse platforms,” the press release reads. The tools will be used in development, production, and post-production.
When reached by IndieWire, a spokesperson for Agbo declined to clarify how much of these tools will be AI or generative-ai. The use of AI in Hollywood is considered sacrilegious by some and an efficient use of technology by others. The truth is it can be both. AI has been the primary — or at least the most public-facing — issue in contract negotiations between the guilds and the studios.

With numerous films and TV series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s a daunting proposition for a newcomer to even think about getting caught up on the various characters and storylines.
But Shawn Levy, who directed the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, says there will be no “homework” required to enjoy his film.
“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies,” Levy told the Associated Press.
He added that his goal was to make the already established fans happy but also create a movie that anyone can enjoy.
“I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world,” he said. “But I didn’t want to presume that.

The superhero genre has traditionally been family-oriented. Often light-hearted and ending with a moral message, PG-13 is what most of these films aim for. However, every now and then there comes an R-rated superhero flick that completely blows off adult minds, forcing them to be hyped like kids again. And the Deadpool series did just that.
A still from Logan
However, Deadpool wasn’t the first R-rated superhero movie, and it certainly won’t be the last. Most of the time, R-rated movies earn much less than their PG counterparts, and just like Deadpool, that rule is occasionally broken. As in the case of Logan, which successfully clawed through its family-friendly genre to present a bloody masterpiece.

Hugh Jackman knew Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds would hit it off when they met.
In a conversation with People at CinemaCon, the director revealed that Jackman predicted Levy and Reynolds would be friends years before the duo actually sat down together for the first time.
The Deadpool & Wolverine helmer shared that he and the Logan star initially talked about Reynolds on the set of Levy’s 2011 movie, Real Steel, which starred Jackman. “Hugh said, ‘For what it’s worth, if you ever meet and work with Ryan Reynolds, you’re never going to stop,'” he recalled, adding with a smile, “That was 2010. Hugh Jackman, the prophet — a little-known special talent.”
Levy opened up about meeting The Adam Project star for the first time, explaining they had originally connected about a film they didn’t end up making, and their connection was almost immediate.

Marvel Studios currently has several movies in development, with one of the most notable being ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on early comments from viewers, it’s expected to rejuvenate faith in the MCU among fans.
Reportedly, this movie was chosen as the sole release for 2024 following disappointing performances of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’
According to Daniel Richtman, a well-known source, director Shawn Levy has impressed MCU executives, leading to expectations of more projects for him in the future.
Shawn Levy began his career directing television and gained fame in the 2000s with comedies like ‘Big Fat Liar’ and ‘Just Married.’ He went on to helm successful franchises such as ‘Cheaper by the Dozen,’ ‘The Pink Panther,’ and ‘Night at the Museum.’ In the early 2010s, Levy directed ‘Date Night’ and ‘Real Steel,’ alongside developing TV pilots and producing ‘Last Man Standing.’

Marvel Studios has quite a few movies currently in development or rumored to be currently in development and one of the most notable ones is certainly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on the comments so far from the people who have seen parts of the movie, it’s going to be an McU-saver and restore the faith of the fans in the franchise as a whole.
Reportedly, that was the reason why it was selected to be the only movie to release in 2024 following the abysmal results of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ movies that barely scraped by when it comes to the box office.
Now according to Daniel Richtman, notable scooper and leaker, the movie’s director Shawn Levy impressed the execs of MCU and we can expect him to get more projects down the line.

“Barbie” is a cultural phenomenon, grossing nearly $1.5 billion and racking up eight Oscar nominations, all while launching scores of catchphrases and memes.
So it’s understandable that Mattel, the company behind the iconic doll, is looking to capitalize on its cinematic success by developing dozens of movies based on its games and toys. Moviegoers can look forward to Barney, Bob the Builder and He-Man hitting the big screen in the not-so-distant future.
But as Hollywood raids toy store shelves to feed its insatiable hunger for IP, it’s worth noting that when it comes to this type of film, for every “Barbie”-sized smash there’s a “Battleship”-like bomb. With that in mind, here are some of the movies that Mattel has in the works.

Before he became Ryan Reynolds' director of choice in decent but forgettable big-budget action comedies, Shawn Levy was known for family movies, as well as that brief moment when he made one of the best live-action anime movies (not based on any actual anime) ever — "Real Steel." The 2011 movie belongs to a category of 2010s genre releases that performed well enough to not be considered a failure, but not so well that it spawned a franchise. And to think it all started with a phone charger.
The film stars Hugh Jackman as a washed-up boxer in a world where human fighters have been replaced by 2000-pound, eight-foot-tall robots — essentially "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots: The Movie." The film features stunning action, with actual animatronic robots used in the film, combined with motion capture to give the film a grounded look that's rare in big-budget movies today. Shawn Levy's 2011 sci-fi film "Real Steel" takes place in the near future of 2020 when boxing and Mma have been banned, having been replaced by high-octane robot fights. Robot "trainers" buy up powerful, tank-like fighting bots, program their unique fighting moves prior to a match, and then pit them against each other in outsize, heavily sponsored arenas. The robot to remain un-smashed is declared the victor. Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer turned robot trainer who aims to purchase a high-profile robot called Noisy Boy and relive his glory days, but his attempts fail. Instead, he begins seeing potential in a battered, unassuming, out-of-date sparring robot named Atom salvaged from a dump. The robots in "Real Steel" aren't alive, but Levy does throw in a handful of shots implying that Atom may be ... feeling something.
"Real Steel" wasn't talked about a lot upon its release, and only opened to $27 million domestically.

Between 1959 and 1964, there wasn't a more consistently brilliant show on television than Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" — an accomplishment that's all the more amazing given its anthology concept. Every episode offered a completely new story, often in a completely different genre, from an occasionally different writer. Sure, the rotating staff was a murderer's row of scribes that included Serling, Richard Matheson, and Charles Beaumont, but, good as they were, they didn't have the safety net of writing for the same characters every time out. All they had was their imagination.
Considering Hollywood's risk-averse nature, it's a little surprising that more "Twilight Zone" episodes haven't been turned into full-blown features — at least, not as official remakes. Obviously, "Poltergeist" owes a massive creative debt to "Little Girl Lost" and it's hard to imagine "Child's Play" without the arsenic-laced genius of "Living Doll," but for straight-up adaptations there's Richard Kelly's "The Box...

Deadpool 2 started off by making the mistake of killing Deadpool / Wade Wilson’s girlfriend Vanessa, played by Morena Baccarin – then it, thankfully, used time travel shenanigans to erase that mistake by the end of the film. So Baccarin is reprising the role for the upcoming sequel Deadpool 3, which is still in production. While speaking to Screen Rant, Baccarin revealed that her work on Deadpool 3 is finished… and that the film keeps things fresh by reinventing Wade and Vanessa’s relationship.

After directing three “Night at the Museum” movies, Shawn Levy didn’t want to be confined to directing family comedies for the rest of his career. If you’re doing something successfully, he told IndieWire, it’s easy to be “pigeonholed” by Hollywood into that one thing.
But he’s been far from limited under the banner of his own production company, 21 Laps. Levy and his company have been prolific hit-makers since it launched in 2006, and he has produced and directed everything from indie darlings (“The Spectacular Now”), ambitious Best Picture nominees (“Arrival”), studio blockbuster satires (“Free Guy“), prestige limited series (“All the Light We Cannot See”), Stephen King horror movies (“The Boogeyman”), and the biggest Netflix show ever (“Stranger Things”), all of which depart from the family-friendly event movies on which he cut his teeth.
“You need to refuse to be limited by everyone else’s assumptions,” Levy told IndieWire during a recent interview.

Warner Bros. is building its own galaxy that is far, far away.

Adapted from a short story and an old Twilight Zone episode, Real Steel starred Hugh Jackman as an ex-boxer who becomes a trainer after human boxers were replaced by robots. The film became a surprise hit in 2011, and there are still rumblings about a potential sequel — either as a new movie or as a streaming series — to this day. To give the film a greater sense of realism, Jackman trained with a real-life boxing champion, Sugar Ray Leonard, to work on his own moves in the ring. At the time of the film’s release, Jackman talked to us about what a thrill it was to work so closely with one of his athletic heroes. If "Rocky" is for Boomers and Gen-Xers and "Creed" is for Millennials, then what is the boxing film of choice for Generation Z? One could argue it's "Real Steel." Yes, really.
Released in 2011, the Hugh Jackman-led sci-fi film is loosely based on "Steel," a short story written by Richard Matheson in the 1950s and one that was previously adapted into an episode of "The Twilight Zone" in 1963. Yet, the film itself was very much meant for families -- including then kiddie-aged Gen-Zers -- when it opened in theaters. It would proceed to top the charts on Netflix almost a decade later when the world was on lockdown in 2020, at which point it became apparent just how much of a lasting imprint Jackman's surprisingly heartfelt boxing robots flick had left on the public's consciousness.

Prolific producer and director Shawn Levy fell in love with “All the Light We Cannot See” long before he was attached to adapt the 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Anthony Doerr into a new Netflix limited series, out Thursday, November 2. “I did not read it as a filmmaker. I read it as a reader,” he said to IndieWire over Zoom. “By the time I got back from whatever holiday I was on where I read that book, the rights were already unavailable, having been snatched up by Scott Rudin and Fox Searchlight.”
The story of a blind French teenager Marie-Laure and German soldier Werner connecting via radio, providing each other salvation under the devastation of WWII, caught Levy right as he’d made the deliberate decision to take a step back from directing films, and focus on producing. “I had, at that point, directed maybe like nine movies in 11 or 12 years.

“Deadpool 3” and “Stranger Things” director Shawn Levy is showering praise on this weekend’s box office ruler, Taylor Swift, calling her a “generational voice and creative force” and likening her directorial vision to that of Steven Spielberg.

Taylor Swift Is A “Generational Voice” And A Visionary Director, Says ‘Deadpool 3’ Helmer Shawn Levy
Director Shawn Levy likes what he sees in Taylor Swift’s directorial vision. So much so, he’s comparing her to film industry titan Steven Spielberg.
Levy, whose Deadpool 3 is the next line on his resume, said in an EW interview that Swift is ready to direct her first feature film. Searchlight Pictures previously announced last year that Swift would direct her first feature-length movie from a screenplay she wrote herself.
Before that, she received two MTV VMAs prizes for Best Director — one for All Too Well: The Short Film, and another for her The Man music video.
“Taylor has not consulted me about upcoming directing projects, but I think she has the makings of a hell of a director,” Levy said. He previously worked with Swift on the short film and briefly appeared in it.
Levy called Swift a “generational voice and creative force” in the industry.
“That list is short.

The Toronto International Film Festival will honor one of Canada’s own, Montreal native Shawn Levy, with the inaugural Norman Jewison Award, also named after another Canadian great filmmaker.
The Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award is presented by The Budman Family, and recognizes Canadians in the film industry who have made a global impact with their careers. The awards presentation will take place at the TIFF Tribute Awards gala fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
Levy originally set about pursuing a career in acting, attending Yale University. He turned to directing and received an Mfa from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1994. One of Levy’s first acting gigs was the low-budget horror 1987 movie, Zombie Nightmare, which got poked at on an episode of Comedy Central’s Mystery Science Theater 3000. If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries or early millennium classic cartoons then boy does Hulu’s list of new releases have some great news for you!
Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. Real Steel was released well over a decade at this point, but fans of the sci-fi boxing movie are still campaigning for a sequel. One of those fans is Anthony Mackie, who actually starred alongside Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly in the 2011 movie.
During an interview with Inverse, Anthony Mackie mentioned that he actually calls Real Steel director Shawn Levy once or twice a year to push for a sequel. That’s commitment. “It was supposed to be a trilogy,” Mackie said. “It was supposed to be three or four movies together.“
Real Steel starred Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when robots took over the ring. When he hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goto) to build and train a championship contender. Anthony Mackie played Finn, a friend of Charlie’s who owns an underground robot boxing arena.
