Actor Marlon Wayans is known for his stand-up comedy and comedic roles in films such as White Chicks and the Scary Movie franchise. Though the actor has ventured into dramatic territory with films such as Requiem For A Dream he was mostly known for his comedic endeavors as he gained fame with his sitcom with brother Shawn Wayans, The Wayans Bros.
Wayans also starred in the 2009 action film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The Stephen Sommers directorial was an adaptation of the popular comics of the same name and starred Channing Tatum and Wayans in lead roles. Due to Wayans’ reputation as a comic actor, fans were reportedly concerned that the film would not be a serious adaptation of the action comics.

The actor is also known for his appearances in the Scary Movie franchise. There are formative moments that shape us as filmmakers. In my case, attending Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School was fundamental to developing my vision and philosophy. After that, I was able to take the leap into writing and directing my first feature film. By the time I wrote my second feature, I applied to Film Independent’s Screenwriting Lab.

When Bosch first premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2014, the streaming world was in a very different place. Netflix had only House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under its belt. Hulu was still a joint venture owned by multiple conglomerates. Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock didn’t even exist. Now, in June 2021, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases is highlighted by one last outing for LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Bosch season 7 premieres on June 25. This will be the last batch of episodes for the series, before a spinoff gets rolling for IMDb TV. The Wayans brothers have never exactly been bastions of high quality cinema, with Marlon in particular a repeat offender responsible for a string of terrible comedies like Little Man, Dance Flick, A Haunted House and the sequel, Fifty Shades of Black, Naked and Sextuplets. None of those movies found anything even approaching critical acclaim, but several of them did decent business at the box office and the 48 year-old has been collaborating with Netflix on a regular basis, so there must be a good sized audience for his work.
One entry from the writer/actor/producer’s back catalogue that’s remained inexplicably popular is White Chicks, the 2004 comedic effort directed by Keenen Ivory and starring Shawn and Marlon in the lead roles. It sees two sibling FBI agents go undercover and end up tasked with protecting the socialite Wilson sisters, before eventually being forced to disguise themselves as the titular white chicks.

Marlon Wayans is getting into business with HBO Max. The actor and comedian has struck an overall deal with the WarnerMedia streaming service and has set a number of projects.

John Witherspoon, the veteran actor and comedian best known for his roles in “Friday,” “House Party” and “Boomerang,” died on Tuesday. He was 77.
“It is with deep sadness we have to tweet this, but our husband & father John Witherspoon has passed away,” his family announced on Twitter. “He was a Legend in the entertainment industry, and a father figure to all who watched him over the years. We love you “Pops” always & forever.”
Witherspoon appeared in several films and TV shows throughout his hilarious career, often playing over-the-top characters such as Willie Jones, the father of Ice Cube’s Craig in “Friday.” He reprised his role in the next two films, “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next.”
Born in Detroit, Witherspoon was a frequent collaborator of the Wayans Brothers (“Little Man”) and Eddie Murphy, co-starring in several ’90s films opposite Murphy such as “Boomerang,” “Vampire in Brooklyn,” and “Dr. Doolittle...

Once the funniest and most ubiquitous family in Hollywood, the Wayans siblings — Damon, Keenen Ivory, Kim, Shawn and so on — have largely faded from the scene in recent years, leaving youngest brother Marlon (now nearing 50) to carry the mantle. Audiences may not be showing up for sendups like “Scary Movie” and “Dance Flick” like they used to, but Marlon has figured out a foolproof solution: Make lowbrow laffers with search-friendly titles directly for Netflix, and the checks keep rolling in.
First it was “Naked” — a “Groundhog Day”-style infinite-repeat scenario in which Marlon plays a groom who wakes up au naturel on his wedding day, over and over until he gets it right — and now it’s “Sextuplets,” which is the first thing that pops up when you type “S-e-x” into Netflix. In both cases, lonely viewers looking for something spicy will have to settle for a relatively bland and half-baked comedy,...

Exclusive: Hereditary writer/director Ari Aster and producer Lars Knudsen have formed Square Peg, a production partnership. The pair followed the sleeper hit Hereditary by teaming again on Midsommar, Aster’s next film that A24 releases July 3, and they decided to formalize the relationship and build an ambitious company together. They don’t plan to seek out a first look deal, but said they have already begun putting together a slate with emerging artists. They’ll also generate the next film Aster writes and directs and they plan to branch into TV as well.
They also plan to branch beyond genre, but stay in that frightful lane with Midsommar. The thriller is about a troubled couple that travels to Sweden to take part in a fabled mid-summer festival. What starts out a lovely holiday slowly descends into a nightmare as they find themselves part of a bizarre and violent competition waged by a pagan cult.

See Marlon Wayans in A Haunted House, creeping into theaters January 11, 2013. Known for the Scary Movies franchise, Wayans tweeted. “A Haunted House is special to me. It’s my first venture on my own as a writer/producer/creator/star thK god for my great cast & team Ra & Mt.” The comedy is directed by Michael Tiddes who’s worked with the Wayans Brothers on Littleman and White Chicks.
In an outrageous send up of the Paranormal Activity movies, The Devil Inside and other “found footage” movies, A Haunted House features young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) who have just moved in to their dream house. As they settle in, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, it’s Malcolm’s girlfriend who is possessed by a demon. Oh shit son! Marlon Wayans is returning to the realm of the horror spoof once again. However, its not any involvement with the 'Scary Movie' franchise that he and other Wayans brothers created back in 2000 but instead an entirely new parody called 'Smart Ass'. The new project which Wayans will co-direct himself alongside Mike Tiddes will specifically look to spoof 'found footage' horror flicks from recent years such as 'Paranormal Activity'. It's not a bad idea at all actually but let's hope it isn't as disappointing as many of Marlon's previous comedic efforts in the past few years such as the terrible 'LiTTLEMAN'. 'Are We There Yet?' and 'Half and Half' star Essence Atkins (below) has signed up to star in the project alongside Marlon and most likely a number of other Wayans family members. Atkins herself has worked previous with Wayans in...

In ‘celebration’ of the release of Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack & Jill (which is already out in the Us, alas UK readers will have to wait until February 3rd, but at least then you can take your loved ones to it on Valentine’s Day!), I thought I’d take a look at 10 other films I am baffled ever got the green light. I mean, watching the trailer for Jack & Jill one might think it was a deleted scene from the film Funny People in which Sandler mocked the kind of ridiculous high concept comedies that he is so often guilty of making. We thought after pushing them to extremes with spoof clips in that movie which included Sandler’s head magicked onto a baby’s body, it seemed like Sandler was both affectionately lampooning some of his early career decisions and also putting to rest that kind of...

The art film related Hive Production Fund has announced its first films to receive funding.
The Hive Production Fund was launched in February. The aim of the fund is for filmmakers and artists work on single art film projects.
The fund has received significant support. Originally set up between the ABC and Adelaide Film Festival, each contributing $200,000. The Australia Council came on board in July also donating $200,000.
An additional $70,000 has been committed by the Adelaide Film Festival through its Film Investment Fund.
Director of the Adelaide Film Festival Katrina Sedgwick said: “It is important the silos get broken down between film and the rest of the arts. The calibre of these projects and collaborators illustrate the potential for ground-breaking new work to be created for the screen when we facilitate new conversations between diverse practitioners and offer different funding avenues to enable these cross-pollinations.

You guys, I just can’t get enough. Yesterday, we all learned that typing “do a barrel roll” into Google would make your screen turn 360 degrees. After a few months of steady updates, it appears that all of the major roles have finally been cast for Quentin Tarantino's next film Django Unchained. This week we have confirmation that Kerry Washington has officially secured the role of Broomhilda, the female lead of the film. She is the wife of Django (Jamie Foxx), who is raped by three brothers while Django himself is brutalized and left for dead. Django is then eventually freed by a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) who helps him exact his revenge on the plantation owner and rescue Broomhilda. Tarantino reportedly had Washington in mind for the role from the start, but was also interested in potentially casting an unknown if he could find someone that was up to the task. Apparently he couldn't find anyone because he ended up coming back to Washington. It sounds like a potentially challenging role for Kerry Washington...

Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure is a great documentary. It succeeds because of its efforts to take two men who most viewed as caricatures, and introduce their human side. Thanks to the film they’re not just drunks with bad tempers, but they’re real people with a real relationship.
Matthew Bate is the man making his feature documentary debut with it, and I recently got the chance to ask him a few questions about the project via email. He had a lot to say about where the project came from, why they made some of the choices they did, and how Peter Haskett and Raymond Huffman stand against the world of the internet.
William Bitterman: Where did the idea for this film come from?
Matthew Bate: I read about how artists like Dan Clowes and Devo had used the recordings as inspiration for artwork and music.

Even in a pop culture landscape littered with the bloodthirsty undead, Let The Right One In stood out as a poignant coming of age story as well as a bone-chilling horror film. The haunting mediation on the difficult and often painful transition into adolescence garnered much praise on the festival circuit in 2008. The film earned a loyal cult following through word of mouth and when Matt Reeves announced his American remake, those very same cinephiles lashed out in anger. The general consensus was, “why fix something that isn’t broken?”
Sadly, mainstream audiences seem to have a problem with subtitles, so it was inevitable that the film would be remade. That said, fans of the original should be grateful that Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), alongside legendary British horror brand Hammer Films (a studio that...

Sadly, mainstream audiences seem to have a problem with subtitles, so it was inevitable that the film would be remade. That said, fans of the original should be grateful that Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), alongside legendary British horror brand Hammer Films (a studio that...

Exclusive: Sixteen years after he co-created and starred in the WB comedy series The Wayans Bros, which ran for five seasons, Marlon Wayans is returning to broadcast TV with another comedy project about brothers, this time at ABC. Wayans will write, executive produce and star in a hybrid single/multi-camera comedy in development at the network that is produced by ABC Studios. The comedy, which has an odd couple/buddy cop comedy feel to it, centers on two brothers, both cops. Having fallen down on his luck, one of them moves in with his brother and his family. Wayans, who will play the married brother, is executive producing with his manager Lisa Blum and longtime producing partner Rick Alvarez of Wayans Bros Entertainment, Wayans’ production company with brothers Keenan Ivory and Shawn. CAA-repped Wayans, who started off working with his bothers on Fox’s sketch show In Living Color, co-wrote...

Summary: Or, how to profit from your drunk neighbors.
The screening at Nycc of Shut Up, Little Man! An Audio Misadventure was in a small room off the main drag of the panel's and rooms. It was perhaps the shortest line that I experienced. This was somewhat surprising, considering many indie movie blogs have been discussing Shut Up Little Man since the summer (it's release was frightfully limited). The film fans were clearly elsewhere.
Shut Up Little Man is the story of two pairs of friends & neighbors living in San Francisco in 1987. The first pair are older, crippled drunks- one gay, the other a massive homophobe. The second pair is young, ambitious, recently moved to San Francisco. The drama starts to happen the night that the young friends notice how obnoxious their neighbors would be when they get drunk and fought. They started recording the fights in case the violent...

Chicago – Raymond Huffman and Peter Haskett were viral before that word meant anything other than an adjective for pneumonia. Perhaps you’ve heard of Peter and Ray, a pair of irascible roommates in San Francisco who became audio tape icons after their neighbors recorded their drunken exchanges and started circulating them among their friends. “Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure” documents the phenomenon that started when two hipster kids moved in next door to a pair of fascinating drunks.
What starts as a clever comedy piece about the popularity of the actual recordings becomes something more poignant when director Matthew Bate starts asking questions about privacy and unwanted celebrity. The film still feels a bit dragged out to meet a theatrical running time and might have made a tighter short documentary but it’s funny, interesting, and entertaining. You never know who might be listening your arguments and...

The Brisbane Underground Film Festival is a new, scrappy little fest on the scene that will screen several underground hits for three nights on Oct. 13-15 at the Visy Theatre in Brisbane, Australia.
On the narrative film front, there’s two mind-blowing American films: Zach Clark‘s wild ’90s indie film throwback comedy Vacation!, about four women who take a disastrous beach holiday; and Usama Alshaibi‘s über-trippy Profane, a moving and powerful portrait of a Muslim sex worker trying to regain her faith in Chicago. Plus, there’s Jason Eisener‘s bloody cult flick Hobo With a Shotgun and Terry McMahon’s Charlie Casanova.
On the documentary front, the fest will open the Le Tigre tour film Who Took the Bomp? by Kerthy Fix; then screen festival circuit hits Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods by Patrick Meaney and Shut Up Little Man! by Matthew Bate.
Plus, most film screenings...
