At the Cannes press conference for Todd Haynes’ “May December,” nobody mentioned the real-life relationship between schoolteacher Mary Kay Letourneau and her former student, Vili Fualaau, which started when he was 12 years old. But the movie, which stars Julianne Moore as a fictional schoolteacher years after a similar tabloid scandal and Natalie Portman as an actress attempting to play her, has clear ties to a real-life situation even if the project doesn’t serve as an official biopic.
Just as Letourneau and Fualaau ultimately raised the two children conceived while he was a minor, Moore’s character Gracie remains married to thirtysomething Joe (Charles Melton) when Portman’s arrival at their home to research the part complicates the dynamic. “The reason this movie feels so dangerous is because people don’t know where anyone’s boundaries are,” Moore said. “An age gap is one thing, but a relationship between an...

For an actor starting out, sometimes the big break comes along by luck. Other times, it happens because someone takes a chance on you. In the case of Eddie Redmayne, it was a little column A and a little bit of column B. One of his earliest roles was in the independent film, "Savage Grace," a film that depicts the shocking Barbara Daly Baekeland murder case with dramatic flair. Julianne Moore portrayed Barbara and Redmayne portrayed her son, Anthony. In the film, we see events depicted from when Anthony was born to his gradual struggles with schizophrenia and, ultimately, the shocking murder of his mother in their London flat.
This role was a major one in many ways for Redmayne. On paper, it was an incredibly challenging task for the then-green actor. If he succeeded in getting the role, it would get his foot in the door for more work.

The 18th Zurich Film Festival kicks off Sept. 22 with a muscular lineup that includes some of the year’s most anticipated international pics while also putting the spotlight on Swiss and German-language cinema.
In addition to a strong selection of U.S. films, including Oscar-winning writer-director Florian Zeller’s “The Son” and Neil Jordan’s “Marlowe,” Zurich is also honoring Sony Pictures Classics’ Michael Barker and Tom Bernard for their contribution to cinema.
“We are very proud that this year about one-fourth of our program are world or European premieres, which – especially when it comes to American films – are quite hard to get because there’s a lot of competition,” says Zff artistic director Christian Jungen.
Other big titles unspooling in Zurich include Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King,” with Viola Davis; Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan; and Tobias Lindholm’s “The Good Nurse,...

Eddie Redmayne has reminisced on his acting career and the years before he earned his A-list status in Hollywood.
Prior to the 40-year-old British actor’s critically acclaimed roles in 2012’s Les Miserables, 2014’s The Theory of Everything, and 2015’s The Danish Girl, he starred in a number of films that weren’t as well-received.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about his latest thriller, The Good Nurse – in which he stars opposite Jessica Chastain – Redmayne discussed his earlier projects.
“The truth is, you do a load of work before anyone sees any of the work you've done,” the Oscar-winning actor admitted.
“So I did all these films for years. I did a film called Savage Grace with Julianne Moore, in which I played a guy called Anthony Bacon who killed his mother.”
While the 2007 true-crime drama received an unfavourable 38 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, Redmayne further remembered a 2011 drama/comedy, which...

Taiwan’s legalization of gay marriage last year helpfully came in time for the real-world launch of the Gol Summit, Asia’s largest LGBTQ+ filmmaking conference. That in turn helped maintain the momentum for a second edition that, due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be a fully virtual affair.
The event, which runs Monday and Tuesday is backed by the GagaOOLala streaming platform, launched by Taiwan studio Portico Media, in collaboration with the Taiwan Content Creative Agency (Taicca). The Gol Summit is also one of the first events this year in a series that makes up the 2020 Taiwan Creative Content Fest International Market (Tccf).
The focus of the first day is the GagaOOLala Pitching Sessions, aimed at bringing together financiers, distributors and sales agents around some 15 new pieces of LGBTQ content – features, series and shorts.

Howard A. Rodman’s upcoming book will be getting the big-screen treatment.
“The Great Eastern,” set to be published in early June by Melville House Books, has been acquired by Great Point Media — a London-based content and media company. Rodman, the former Writers Guild of America West president, will also write the screenplay for the film.
“Howard Rodman is a literary master whose long list of screenwriting credits speak for themselves. Great Point Media is thrilled to be bringing his vision onto the big screen,” said Great Point director Jim Reeve.
The adventure story follows two of literature’s iconic anti-heroes, Captain Nemo and Captain Ahab, as they battle through the latter half of the 19th century. After Nemo kidnaps real-life civil engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel to build a submarine — one that would link the U.S. and England, two opposing colonial forces — the three men find themselves at battle with each other.

Four more reader questions to kick off the weekend. Wheeee. As ever, I'd love to hear your answers to these questions thrown my way.
Matt St Clair: Is there an unseen awards contender this year that you are hoping doesn't fail?
Nathaniel: My "please let this be successful" hopes reside with Blade Runner 2049 (because the original's reputation being tarnished would be such a pity), The Greatest Showman (because musicals Must continue to thrive) and Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (because it's infinitely annoying that Annette Bening doesn't have an Oscar yet and didn't even get nominated for such gorgeous work in 20th Century Women). While we're well- wishing please let Wonderstruck, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and The Florida Project could be bigger hits than usual for Todd Haynes, John Cameron Mitchell, and Sean Baker, since they're three of our most distinctive American auteurs. The thrill of interviewing here in Sundance is that you see a film; you have an impression and while it is still fresh you meet the filmmakers without having much time for any research or reflection. And then you get to see them again as “old friends” when you meet again in Rotterdam.
As Kirsten, her producer Weijie Lai and I sat down at the Sundance Co-op on Main Street here in Park City, I really had little idea of where the interview would take us, somewhat analogously to her film in which an architect, disenchanted with life in general, being put aside as “old” in his own highly successful architectural firm and in a stale relationship with his wife,...

Making a film out of a board game always causes a few raised eyebrows, but this one seems like a particularly off-the-wall idea when you first hear it. The Tracking Board reports that Big Beach Films “is developing a new film exploring the origins of the world’s most popular board games.”
Yep, it’s Monopoly: Origins (although it doesn’t yet have a title, we made that one up). The film will be based on Mary Pilon’s book The Monopolists: Obsession, Fury And The Scandal Behind The World’s Favourite Board Game.

Monopoly enthusiasts will one day receive their money’s worth with the unknown backstory to their beloved game. Deadline reports that Big Beach’s Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf will produce alongside Diane Nabatoff (Dancing in Jaffa) and have set Howard A. No film buff wants to see a promising, or prominent filmmaker pull a disappearing act a la Terrence Malick, (though it seems he isn’t keen to repeat another lapse like the one between Days of Heaven to The Thin Red Line), but whether they’re dealing with unforeseeable professional (endless pre-production woes, writer’s block) or personal issues, sometimes there is a considerable time between projects.

By this time next week the 87th Academy Awards will have come and gone in an explosion of gold-dust and gowns, so I figure I'll get one more contender in here before it's too late... and what better place to celebrate Oscar Season than with the Best Picture nominee that's all about the blood and the sweat and the brutality that goes into slicing and dicing art down to ecstatic perfection? Replace Miles Teller's drumsticks with little golden men and replace Jk Simmons with, well, let's say Harvey Weinstein cuz you know why not, and you get the idea. Palm Springs — The 26th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival lit up the desert night sky Saturday night with an awards gala recognizing top prospects in this year's Oscar race. Talent from films like "Gone Girl," "Birdman," "The Theory of Everything," "Still Alice" and "Wild," among others, was on hand to ring in the new year with towering statues dished out on a massive stage that seemed to scream out, "This is a serious awards season stop!" Early honors went to breakthrough performances from Rosamund Pike ("Gone Girl") and David Oyleowo ("Selma"). The latter was introduced by "Selma" producer Brad Pitt, who said he wanted to broach a subject that everyone was thinking about. No, it wasn't recent criticism of the film's historical accuracy, but rather, how to pronounce Oyelowo's last name. "You're going to be referencing this name for years to come," he exclaimed. He’s wifing up, taking a break from filming, and fulfilling Dilf duty with his newborn babygirl, which leaves the throne wide open. Which of Hollywood’s other hotties has what it takes to fill Gosling’s shoes? Which one can make you feel turned on, protected, rejected, and intrigued all at the same damn time? He’s wifing up, taking a break from filming, and fulfilling Dilf duty with his newborn babygirl, which leaves the throne wide open. Which of Hollywood’s other hotties has what it takes to fill Gosling’s shoes? Which one can make you feel turned on, protected, rejected, and intrigued all at the same damn time? These 10 actors are certainly worth considering.

Fifty Shades of Grey will be Jamie Dornan’s The Notebook. Regardless of whether critics love or hate the film, women and their BFFs will flock to the movies in droves and fall in love with Dornan as a brooding, charming, sexy billionaire with a secret, just like they did with Gosling’s bleeding heart Noah. It’s unavoidable.

Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" took its time coming to the screen. Screenwriter and USC professor Howard Rodman ("Savage Grace") grills the film's two screenwriters, first E. Max Frye ("Something Wild") who started writing the John DuPont murder mystery back in 2007, and then Dan Futterman (who also worked with Miller on the Oscar-nominated script for "Capote") on the long road to the final "Foxcatcher," whose stars Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo have been nabbing awards buzz. Read here: my long interview with Miller and video interviews with him and the cast at Toronto. "The people we felt primarily responsible to were the people who were hurt by what happened," says Futterman. They feel well served, he says in the video below. "John DuPont had some mental health issues...We made an effort to find some root reasons for why he behaved the way he did...loneliness, a feeling of inadequacy.

The whole year, I have been looking for The Oscar season frontrunner for Best Actress. I was hoping Shailene Woodley from "The Fault in Our Stars" would squeak in, but now, the lovely, talented, and ultra-sweet Julianne Moore is the one to beat!
Her double whammy performances for "Map to the Stars" and "Still Alice" solidify that notion. And just this morning, the Palm Springs International Film Festival just called her The best actress of the year! Moore will be receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, at the festival's Awards Gala.
I can't wait! I will be on the red carpet to chat it up with the fantastic Miss Moore! She will be joining the equally talented Eddie Redmayne from "The Theory of Everything" at the gala where the actor is set to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor.
Here's the full press release from the Psiff:

Julianne Moore might be the hottest actress in the Oscar race this year, and most voters haven’t even seen her film yet. This four-time Oscar nominee and Emmy winner for Game Change is considered overdue for a win. Still Alice, in which she plays a victim of early-onset Alzheimer’s, offers her a great opportunity to finally take home that statuette, and today the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced that she will receive the Actress prize at this year’s gala on January 3. Eddie Redmayne was previously announced for the fest’s Actor prize, and both are considered front-runners in the Oscar race, so Psiff is just jumping on the bandwagon.
Every precursor award a contender can get just makes them seem more inevitable for the final win. Moore certainly is deserving, and it is looking like her year. In May, she won the Best Actress prize at...

I am sooo proud of our Palm Springs International Film Festival and equally happy that it's happening right in our own backyard! Just this morning, we heard that Eddie Redmayne, who is sweet and fabulous and a great actor to boot, is getting the Desert Palm Achievement Award for the 26th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (Psiff). He's being honored for his excellent portrayal of Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."
Redmayne will be joining previous Desert Palm Achievement Award recipients such as Jeff Bridges, Daniel Day-Lewis, Matthew McConaughey, and Sean Penn. And according to the press release, "in the years they were honored, Bridges, Day-Lewis, McConaughey, and Penn went on to win the Academy Award® for Best Actor."
Hhhmmmm, good karma? Premonition? Happenstance? I sure hope so!

God and Ellen Page in "Freeheld"
Freeheld, a drama based on adocumentary short, has had a difficult journey to the big screen. There have been cancellations, delays, cast-changes, funding issues, you name it. But Ellen Page stuck with it, came out, and the film powered back to life (coincidence? who knows). But it's delightful to see a still which is proof that it the movie is actually happening. For those who haven't been keeping up Freeheld this is the official "about synopsis" from the Oscar winning documentary:
Detective Lieutenant Laurel Hester spent 25 years investigating tough cases in Ocean County, New Jersey, protecting the rights of victims and putting her life on the line. She had no reason to expect that in the last year of her life, after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, that her final battle for justice...

You're forgiven if you've long since forgotten that Ellen Page was trying to get a feature version of the Oscar winning documentary short Freeheld (2007) off the ground. She first tried in 2008, shortly after her rise to fame with Juno (2007). The film, based on a true story, is about a lesbian couple, the young Stacie (Page) and her older police detective partner Laurel Hester (Moore) who receive devastating news: Laurel is terminally ill and the government won't let her assign her pension benefits to Stacie. At the time this was first announced it looked like a great Oscar project for Page but nothing ever came of. The good news: It's back on!
But the news gets even better...
Julianne Moore is on board to play Laurel so maybe she's finally got her Oscar role. Not that Oscar is the most important thing here. The important thing is tell good stories about...

Though British thesp Colin Firth is currently best known for character-driven dramas like The King’s Speech and A Single Man, his reputation in Hollywood may be getting a makeover within the next few years. Hot off a supporting role as a super-spy in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming action-adventure The Secret Service, Firth has committed to another action-oriented project: gritty thriller Three to Kill.
Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) is set to direct the film, which follows an unlucky businessman (Firth) living on the French coast, who witnesses an assassination and is then pursued by two hitmen determined to put him in the ground next. McQuarrie’s commitment to Mission: Impossible 5, which has already been scheduled for December 25th, 2015, means either that Three to Kill will be shoehorned into the director’s schedule before cameras roll on his action blockbuster or that we may have a while to wait before this thriller sees theaters.

Chloe Grace Moretz is only 16 and already has 50 credits to her name, including “(500) Days of Summer,” “Kick-Ass,” and “Let Me In.” She filmed “The Amityville Horror” remake on the North side of the city when she was only 5 and returned this week to talk about starring in her first lead role, the title part in Kimberly Peirce’s remake of the Stephen King classic, “Carrie.”
From how this part challenged her to her favorite actresses to her love for Hillary Duff, Moretz is as engaging, well-spoken, and fascinating as fans of her work would expect.
Hollywoodchicago.Com: I saw the piece in EW that mentioned that this was your first lead and I was startled because I felt like that had happened by now given how much you’ve acted. Do you feel more pressure playing lead for the first time as opposed to supporting? More nerves?

I actually became depressed at the thought of picking Julianne Moore‘s best movie. She’s not like Jane Fonda or Glenn Close (two of my favorite movie stars, to be clear), the fierce, lupine types who seem to take roles based on how much they can represent their signature intensity. In the case of Jane and Glenn, you basically have to pick their “fiercest” roles as favorites: for Jane, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They or Klute; for Glenn, Damages or Dangerous Liaisons. With Julianne Moore, who stars in the upcoming Carrie remake, it’s possible to forget that she was both Annette Bening‘s conflicted wife in The Kids Are All Right and the mother from Savage Grace. She’s so fundamentally different from role to role that grading them against one another feels (sigh) impossible.
But as you know, our Best Movie Ever? feature is not about pandering to critical taste.

Julianne Moore is a living legend for one reason (besides the unbelievable Bulgari ad above): her utter and absorbing onscreen command. Can you think of a time she was less than in complete control of her material? She even ruled in that weird-ass Vanya on 42nd Street (though she did perform in Uncle Vanya for years prior to that movie’s release, to be fair).
I like going to the movies when I know a star will flawlessly sell dialogue. You always know Meryl Streep will kill. Cate Blanchett will kill. Glenn Close will kill, perhaps in boiling water. But so will Julianne Moore, and for some reason I always feel compelled to note her flawlessness since she retains a strange underdog quality. Oh, and top of this? She is my nominee for a new gay icon.

Julianne Moore has played her fair share of troubled mothers over the course of her incredibly prolific and illustrious career, most memorably as the real-life incestuous socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland in "Savage Grace," who was murdered by her own son. Susanna, the rock star mother she plays in Scott McGehee and David Siegel's heartbreaking modern-day adaption of Henry James' novel "What Maisie Knew," doesn't go to such salacious extremes, but she's no less abusive in the way she subtly manipulates her young girl's burgeoning emotions after being denied sole custody following a bitter battle with her ex-husband (Steve Coogan). Indiewire sat down with Moore in New York to discuss the appeal in playing such a woman, how she developed her character's rock sound, the challenge of working opposite such a young co-star, and whether she ever revisits her own work. "What Maisie Knew" is currently playing in New...

If you feel like Julianne Moore got short shrift in our 10th anniversary celebration of The Hours, check out this excellent piece on the actresses "insularity" by sometime Tfe contributor David Upton at Victim of the Time.
Laura is possibly the most striking example of this [insularity] – much more self-aware than Far From Heaven’s Cathy Whitaker, and much softer and timid than Savage Grace’s Barbara Baekeland, Laura can often barely maintain the performance, often slipping sentences that reveal her true despair into otherwise guarded conversations.
Moore’s voice is probably the most vivid part of her performance in The Hours; a soft, mousy whisper, wavering with indecision and reticence. When she puts on a front of confidence, it momentarily strengthens, a striking declaration of her uncharacteristic decisiveness – “I’m gonna make a cake. That’s what I’m gonna do.”

After a prolonged journey from stage to screen, the international smash Les Misérables has finally gotten the Hollywood treatment. It's a saga that at times felt like it would drag on as long as the French Revolution. Or even as long as the play itself, which boasts a running time of approximately three hundred thousand million hours (and thirty-eight minutes).
Director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech), clearly high as a kite on Oscar glory, was the man to finally bring the beast of a musical - which spans decades and calls for battles, bridge jumps, and hoardes of flea-bitten background players - to movie theaters. Early in the process of doing so, he made a bold decision that might very well have saved the project from being yet another bloated adaptation of a beloved Broadway hit (cough! The PhantomoftheOpera!cough!): he was going to let the actors sing live on-set.

Anne Hathaway may be getting all the Oscar buzz for Les Miserables, and Hugh Jackman all the attention for his leading performance, but for my money the biggest breakout star of Les Mis is Eddie Redmayne, who plays the idealistic and lovestruck student Marius. Redmayne has had a handful of notable roles over the years including in last year's My Week With Marilyn and the drama Savage Grace, but Les Mis is by far his most mainstream role yet-- and it's now gotten him enough attention to snag a role in an even bigger film. According to Variety, Redmayne is now in talks to join Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in Jupiter Ascending, which will be Andy and Lana Wachowski's follow-up to this year's Cloud Atlas. Though we don't know a whole lot about this one yet, since the Wachowskis are prone to keeping their secrecy, the details that...

Thursday, November 1st and Friday Nov 2nd during the 2012 American Film Market for its third year in a row, DreamAgo, in partnership with Hamilton International, the renowned Swiss watch company, will host "Hamilton Helps DreamAgo Connect". Known for its annual Plume & Pellicule screenwriting workshop held annually in Sierre, Switzerland and for the development, support and promotion of films that make a difference, the program has 3 key phases.
First phase is a speed dating-style pitch session designed to introduce selected screenwriters, who benefitted from DreamAgo's screenwriting lab in Switzerland, to well-known producers and distributors. Screenwriters in attendance will have 10 minutes with a producer to present their project before moving on to the next producer and starting again. Among the producers participating are Linda Obst (Hope Floats, Sleepless In Seattle, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days), Golan Ramras (One Missed Call, The Incredible Hulk), Kelley Feldsott Reynolds (The Flyboys, The Unsaid, Five Fingers), Sukee Chew (Jesus Henry Christ, Fireflies In The Garden), Christina Piovesan (Red Lights, The Whistleblower, Amreeka), Paula Mazanedo-Schmit (VP Film Finances Inc.), David Miller (Amal Sidarth, My Foolish Heart) and Vanessa Adkins (Unthinkable, A Late Quartet).
Second, the program offers the opportunity for any WGA writer to propose a feature project and try to win a six weeks Residency in Sierre (Switzerland), all costs covered. Among the more than 250 pitches submitted, DreamAgo & the Residence Ruffieux will select 15 projects and each of the writers will be given the opportunity to pitch it in person for 10 minutes. The lucky winner will be revealed during a brunch at the Swiss Consulate.
Third, DreamAgo will present a panel, in partnership with The Writers Guild of America, the topic this year: How to Preserve Your Vision When Those Around You Won't Leave It Alone? (Hint: An International Production Might Be Your Solution), on Friday, November 2nd. Panelists confirmed for this event include Barry Navidi (Producer, The Merchant Of Venice, Wild Salome), Sydney Levine (Creator of Sydney's Buzz a Network Blog on Indiewire, Founder of Film Finders), Vince Fischer (International Agent, Creator of the International Eci Agency), and Neil Landau (Writer, Tad The Lost Explorer).
Writer Howard Rodman (Joe Gould'S Secret, Savage Grace) will serve as moderator.
Additionally, DreamAgo will also have a part in the celebrated Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards that pay tribute to the off-screen talents. The 6th edition will take place in Hollywood on October 28, just prior to the start of Afm. DreamAgo, in collaboration with Hamilton, has selected Zoe Kazan to receive the Best Screenwriter Award for Ruby Sparks. Each week within this column we strive to pair the latest in theatrical releases to worthwhile titles currently available on Netflix Instant Watch. This week we offer alternatives to Dark Shadows, God Bless America and Hick.
Tim Burton brings the peculiar tale of the Collins clan to the big screen. Johnny Depp stars as Barnabas Collins, a long-imprisoned vampire unleashed on the 1970s, where he discovers a colorful batch of dysfunctional descendants. Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter co-star.
Prefer camp with your macabre?
Dark Shadows (1966) Check out the cult classic that started it all. Originally conceived as a moody melodrama, this groundbreaking gothic soap found success following the introduction of tormented vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid). From there the Collins family regularly crosses the paths of ghosts, werewolves, and witches. Oh my.
Edward Scissorhands (1990) Or revisit Burton and Depp’s first collaboration, the tale of a modern Frankenstein’s monster with scissors for hands.

Vikas Chandra was selected for the inaugural edition of Mumbai Mantra—Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab in India for his script ‘Toothache’. He, along with seven other screenplay writers, participated in a 5 day- workshop in Lonavla. Vikas Chandra sums up his learning from the workshop in this article:
Your donkeys are not carrying enough load!
In the beginning I had no clue on how to prepare or even what to expect from the lab. Worse, I was gripped with the fear that in no time I would be exposed as a writer!
I expected to be bombarded with questions I had no answers to, at least not at that moment. With such apprehensions, I approached my first session, which was with Audrey Wells.
Thankfully – nothing of the above happened.
We started talking about the central character in my script. Why did I choose my protagonist? What do I like about her?...

The actor has triumphed in the cinema with My Week with Marilyn, commanded the stage as Richard II and is about to explode on to our TV screens in Birdsong
He certainly does not look it, but Eddie Redmayne has just turned 30. The reason I'm aware of this is that I was perusing the actor's fan site before I met him – a couple of weeks prior to the big day, 6 January – and there was anguished discussion among the online community about what to give him as a gift. They settled on a scrapbook containing short messages and possibly photographs – "but please no inappropriate pictures" – that the ringleaders, Ivonne and Kate, would present to him on his birthday when he would be performing on stage at the Donmar Warehouse in London.
I don't want to spoil the surprise, I tell him towards the end of a relentlessly enjoyable two-hour lunch at a pub in Barnsbury,...

William Faulkner advised authors to "kill your darlings," but we're thinking this isn't quite what he meant.
Daniel Radcliffe's next role is rumored to be the famous poet Allen Ginsberg involved in the long-gestating "Kill Your Darlings," a film about three of the most important Beat generation figures and a curious murder.
"Darlings" is the story of Ginsberg and his friendship with Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr, who is credited as being one of the founders of the Beat generation. Carr introduced many of the writers to each other; he even turned Ginsberg onto Rimbaud and was the first person to ever read a draft of "On the Road."
Carr also served time for the killing of David Kammerer. Carr's defense painted Kammerer as a man obsessed, whose unwelcome and threatening advances pushed Carr to murder him in self-defense. However, this is just the official version of the story,...

He's won a Tony Award (for Red) and held his own onscreen opposite everyone from Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon (The Good Shepherd) to Julianne Moore (Savage Grace) to Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age). But there's something about Eddie Redmayne's role in My Week With Marilyn -- as Colin Clark, a glorified film-set gofer mediating the relationship between Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) and her Prince and the Showgirl co-star and director Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) -- that hints at just the right screen role at just the right time.
