Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reteaming for the long-awaited 28 Years Later horror sequel trilogy, with Cillian Murphy on board as executive producer. But will Murphy, who of course starred in 28 Days Later, be reprising his role? It sounds like the answer is a big Yes.
Speaking with Deadline this week, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman was flat out asked if Cillian Murphy will be back to star, and his answer suggests that is indeed the plan.
“Yes,” Rothman answered, “but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way.”
He continued, speaking more generally about 28 Years Later, “This is Danny at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver. Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it.”

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland (Annihilation, Men), the director and writer behind 2002’s hit horror film 28 Days Later, are reteaming for the long-awaited sequel, 28 Years Later. THR reports that the sequel has cast Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), and Ralph Fiennes (The Menu).
The plan is for Garland to write 28 Years Later and Boyle to direct, with Garland also planning on writing at least one more sequel to the franchise – director Nia DaCosta is currently in talks to helm the second installment.
No word on plot details as of this time, or who Comer, Taylor-Johnson, and Fiennes may play.
28 Days Later received a follow up in 2007 with 28 Weeks Later, which was executive produced by Boyle and Garland but directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Now, the pair hope to launch a new trilogy with 28 Years Later. The plan is for Garland to write all three entries,...

Just in case you haven’t picked up Alone in the Dark yet, Pieces Interactive and Thq Nordic have released a new Accolades trailer for the reimagining of the cult classic “that set the benchmark for an entire genre.” Mixed in amongst the quotes and scores are various clips and quips from Alone in the Dark‘s eclectic cast of characters, as well as scenes of the various Eldritch horrors Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood face throughout the game.
And if the accolades trailer still hasn’t convinced you to plunk your cash down for Alone in the Dark, you can also check out the free Prologue, which is still very much available.

A new breed of creature-features was unleashed in the 1990s and continued well into the next decade. Shaking off the ecological messaging of the past, these monsters existed for the sake of pure mayhem. Just to name a few: Tremors, The Relic, Anaconda, Godzilla, Deep Rising and Lake Placid all showcased this trend of irreverent creature chaos. Reptiles and other scaly beasts proved to be a popular source of inspiration for these films, but for that extra crawly experience, bugs were the best and quickest route. Spiders, in particular, led some of the worst infestations on screen in the early 2000s. And on the underbelly of this creeping new wave — specifically the direct-to-video sector — hangs an overlooked offering of spider horror: Arachnid.
In 2000, Brian Yuzna and Julio Fernández launched the Spanish production company Fantastic Factory. The Filmax banner’s objective was to create modestly budgeted genre films for international distribution.

Every year, gamers ask themselves: Is this the year video game movies finally gain some respect? And the answer in the year 2024 might, actually, be yes.
No, none of the three video game adaptations that came out this year have been outright critical successes. Quite the opposite, actually: critics saw “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” as unremarkable and mediocre, “Gran Turismo” as a glorified advertisement, and “Five Nights as Freddy’s” as a complete borefest. But the movies all performed respectably at the box office, with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” becoming the second-highest grossing film of the year, and “Five Nights at Freddy’s” smashing expectations to become one of the year’s biggest horror movies. These successes all affirm that, for better or worse, video game movies are hot right now. And with a new “Sonic the Hedgehog” film and “Borderlands” coming out this year,...

GTA 6 will be one of the greatest games of the current generation. Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar, counts Grand Theft Auto as one of its key businesses. This giant of the industry made a deal with Embracer Group and just acquired Gearbox Entertainment, the creators of Borderlands, for almost 500 million dollars.
Gearbox confirmed this today through a social media post, expressing their joy at joining the 2K team. Embracer Group also sold more IPs, beginning a plan for restructuring the company.

Thq Nordic has finally returned fans to the Alone in the Dark series, with an exciting new story and plenty of puzzles to complete. Whether you play as Jodie Comer’s Emily Hartwood or David Harbour’s Edward Carnby, you will likely want some firepower.
While there are a few different weapons you will unlock in the game, the shotgun is one that can be obtained early and easily. It will make quick work of your enemies, and once you have killed an opponent with the firearm, the Hard Boiled trophy will be achieved.
The only thing you will need to do to get the shotgun is find three specific lagniappes, which are collectibles that have been disbursed throughout the game. They can all be found at the beginning of Chapter 2, which means there will be a lot of time where the gun is useful, as you continue through the...

The best way to describe the truly odd experience of Shines Over: The Damned is as a vibes-only game. The question with anything that is a vibes-only experience is whether those vibes are significant enough to compensate for the other aspects of the experience that are lacking. Unfortunately for this game, the answer to that question is no. As cool as some of the presentation and soundtrack is here, the actual meat of the experience is almost non-existent.
Shines Over: The Damned is out now and is available exclusively on PS5.
Everything about Shines Over: The Damned is vague, and in some instances that totally works. The dark and oppressive world that the game is set in has no real rhyme or reason to it, the character that you play as has no name, no weapons and no human companions to help them. Alone in the Dark is an extremely important franchise within the sub-genre of survival horror. The first game in the series is considered by many to be the first true survival horror video game ever released. Thus, without this franchise, other iconic survival horror titles like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alan Wake may never have come to pass.
This is one reason that this reimagining of the original Alone in the Dark was my most anticipated 2024 release, the other reason is because survival horror remakes have been knocking it out of the park lately. Last year alone saw Capcom expertly remaster the iconic Resident Evil 4, after the year opened with EA releasing a masterful remake of the original Dead Space.
All of this combined with the star power of David Harbour and Jodie Comer in the lead roles meant that Pieces Interactive’s 2024 reimagining of Alone in the Dark...

The new Alone in the Dark is meant to be an event—a revitalization of the 30-year-old franchise that created the blueprint for survival horror games. There is, after all, no Resident Evil without 1992’s Alone in the Dark, which sent polygonal characters through the gauntlet of fixed-camera angles in a sinister mansion. Now, the enduring success of Resident Evil, and especially its recent remakes, is a visible influence on this reimagining of the game.
Developer Pieces Interactive has reconceived Derceto Manor, the 1920s-era Louisiana estate at the center of the original Alone in the Dark, with modern graphics and an over-the-shoulder camera. They’ve even gone so far as to cast Jodie Comer and David Harbour as the two selectable protagonists: Emily Hartwood, a young woman searching for her troubled uncle, and Edward Carnby, a private investigator whose services she’s enlisted.

For as long as survival horror has existed, confounding puzzles and bewildering navigation have been staples of the experience. Granted, they did fall out of fashion for a brief period in the late-noughties — when games like Dead Space and Resident Evil 5 pivoted in a more action-oriented direction — but generally they have been mainstays of the genre ever since the very beginning.
Although it’s up for debate where those origins actually, you know, originated, the original Alone in the Dark at least belongs in the conversation. It may have arrived a little later than kitschy Fmv outings like Night Trap and some of those side-scrolling movie tie-ins — which, let’s be honest, were just bog-standard platformers anyway — but it’s where the style as we understand it today was properly codified.

With Pieces Interactive set to unleash the remake of Alone in the Dark next month, it was time to give the fans a taste of the madness. Said madness can be found in the new trailer for Alone in the Dark, which not only features actors Jodie Comer and David Harbour chatting about the game, but also introduces players to the colourful inhabitants of Derceto Manor.
“I think what I’m most drawn to is the different characters, because they are so fully fleshed out and so colourful and vibrant,” states Comer. “You really do feel like when Emily meets a new character the world is completely changed.”
Alone in the Dark remake Writer and Director Mikael Hedberg appears in the trailer, referring to Derceto Manor as one of the most parts of the game. “It’s at its very core a haunted mansion story. That’s why we needed...

After a couple of delays, Thq’s belated remake of Alone in the Dark is almost upon us and we couldn’t be more hyped. After all, the title is poised to breathe fresh life into what was once recognized as the granddaddy of survival horror (even though it predates that label by a good few years).
You see, despite its far-reaching influence — which can be felt in everything from classic Resident Evil to mainline Silent Hill entries— this IP has been languishing since the turn of the millennium. Owing to a string of increasingly dodgy sequels, very few gamers under the age of thirty are likely to hold the series in high esteem, while its protagonist, Edward Carnby, is hardly as iconic as his nearest counterparts in Leon S. Kennedy or James Sunderland.

With the Alone in the Dark remake being bumped to March, it does give Pieces Interactive and Thq Nordic time to show off more of the game. Such is the case with the Digital Deluxe Edition for Alone in the Dark, which will not only allow you to experience the game with a variety of filters, but also throws back to the 1992 original.
As the name implies, the Derceto 1992 costume pack brings back the low-poly versions of Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood from Infogrames’ original Alone in the Dark, which no doubt get even more bizarre once when paired with actors David Harbour and Jodie Comer voicing the delightfully chunky characters. What’s even cooler is that you can swap these models out on the fly.

2023 was one hell of a year for games. From long-anticipated sequels like Alan Wake II, unexpectedly great remakes like Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space, and killer indies like Amnesia: The Bunker, there was absolutely no shortage in tremendous horror experiences.
What does the future hold? 2024 is already shaping up to be an interesting year with anticipated experiences of its own. These are the games we’re looking forward to next year.
Silent Hill 2: The Remake (PS5)
While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Bloober Team’s Layers of Fear, I can’t help but have some excitement for their upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2, a bona fide survival horror masterpiece that features some of the most iconic imagery in the series. Veteran film and television star James McCaffrey, who was best known to video game fans as the voice of Max Payne in the Max Payne series, has passed away at the age of 65. Initially announced by friend and The Blob actor Kevin Dillon on Dillon’s Instagram, McCaffrey’s passing was later confirmed by TMZ via a representative for the actor.
“One of Dick Wolf’s proteges (“Swift Justice”), McCaffrey went on to a successful 35 year career in television and film,” according to his rep. “Trained at the Actor’s Studio, he never lost his love for creating characters; however, his good looks often pushed him toward leading man roles.”
McCaffrey, who had a number of main roles and recurring roles in a number of television series as well as appearances in film, was known to video game fans as the iconic voice of NYPD cop turned vigilante Max Payne.

Thq Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive have pushed their upcoming Alone in the Dark remake again. Originally pushed to January 16 to accommodate for a hectic October, the publisher has moved the release to March 20, 2024.
The decision to move the release date again, according to Thq Nordic, was to give the team more time for polish, and to avoid “potential crunch” over the Christmas holidays. In addition Thq Nordic and Pieces Interactive “want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David [Barbour] and Jodie [Comer] as the main protagonists.”
A love letter to the ground-breaking original, Alone in the Dark allows players to experience the haunting story by Mikael Hedberg through the eyes of one of the two protagonists: play as Edward Carnby, portrayed by David Harbour, or Emily Hartwood, portrayed by Jodie Comer in this reimagined classic survival horror game,...

Survival horror reboot Alone In The Dark has been delayed once again – this time to March 2024.
There was a time, not so long ago, that survival horror game Alone In The Dark would have gone up against the mighty Alan Wake 2, with both games scheduled for release in the busy month of October 2023.
In the end, that clash of the horror titans – which, would likely have seen Alone In The Dark come second place, if we’re being brutally honest – never happened, with publisher Thq Nordic pushing its game’s release back to January 2024.
Now the game is getting another delay – this time to the 20th March 2024. In a statement shared by Gamespot, Thq Nordic – and developer Pieces Interactive – explained that there’s an honourable reason behind the delay. With Christmas coming up, the studio wanted to avoid putting their staff through the stress of crunching to meet a January deadline.

Bloodthirst is from the folks at Mahal Empire, last year they gave us their version of the zombie apocalypse, Bridge of the Doomed. This year they’re revisiting the apocalypse, only in Bloodthirst the threat comes from a different strain of the undead, vampires. Interestingly, both films were directed by Michael Su and written by Adrian Milnes this time with a story credit to Massimiliano Cerchi
In the world of Bloodthirst two factions of vampires fight for control of what’s left of the planet. What’s left of humanity is caught in the middle and rapidly heading for extinction, something that would doom the vampires as well. John Shepard walks that world as a vampire hunter who’s on the trail of The Master Vampire.

After the first day of big reveals, Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2023 concluded last night with the Horror Game Awards. Spread across 13 categories (and one lifetime achievement award), the big winner last night was Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake.
The acclaimed remake of the 2005 classic nabbed all five of its nominated categories, including Horror Game of The Year. Meanwhile, Capcom’s other Resident Evil title, Resident Evil Village, snagged the award for Best VR/Ar Horror.
The title closest to equaling RE4‘s total wins was rose-engine’s Alien-esque Survival Horror title Signalis, which snagged the awards for Best Narrative of the Year and Best Indie Horror of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Horror Game Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award went to Mikael Hedberg, lead writer for the upcoming Alone in the Dark remake, as well as Amnesia: Rebirth and Soma.
Here’s a complete rundown of the winners:

With the crammed lineup for October releases, you knew that something had to give. Unfortunately for Alone in the Dark fans, that something is the game’s release date. Originally set for October 25, Thq Nordic has elected to push the game’s release date to next year. January 16th, 2024, to be exact.
As you might guess, the reasoning for the shift in release is due to “Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man”, as the press release put it. “We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16th, 2024. We’ll have to wait a few days more for Alan Wake 2 this October. Originally scheduled for an October 17th release, Epic Games and Remedy have announced that the highly-anticipated follow-up to the 2010 original will now be coming out on October 27th for PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series.
The official Alan Wake 2 Twitter/X account posted the delay, saying that the month—which already includes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1, and Alone in the Dark, to name a few— is “amazing” for game launches, and the shift in release dates “gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games”. Remedy also plugs Alan Wake 2‘s appearance next week at Gamescom, teasing additional reveals for the game.
Understandably, October is crammed with releases, so it only makes sense that Alan Wake 2 makes a bit of breathing room for itself to avoid getting lost in the mix.

People may be surprised to learn that staying out of the ocean won’t guarantee their safety from sharks. In fact, a dip in a river or pond could lead to an encounter with one of the most aggressive sharks in the world: the bull shark. Strangely enough, though, the Carcharhinus leucas doesn’t show up in sharksploitation movies anywhere near as much as its larger and more popular cousin, the great white. Many don’t even know of its existence until they hear of a sighting or attack in an unlikely place.
Jaws led to great whites becoming the face of shark horror. Of course, there are exceptions — Deep Blue Sea features bio-engineered mako sharks, and Syfy went through a period of unleashing one variety of mutant shark after another — yet as a whole, sharksploitation prefers great whites. Then in 2003, TBS Superstation mixed things up by having a bull...

Thq Nordic has dropped a new teaser trailer for their upcoming Alone in the Dark remake which show off a little more of the horrors that await players. In this case, we get a glimpse of The Dark Man, who according to protagonist Emily Hartwood, was reportedly following her now-missing uncle. In addition, Thq Nordic also revealed the Collector’s Edition for Alone in the Dark.
It’s not clear what The Dark Man’s purpose is, or why he’s tormenting Emily’s uncle. It certainly wasn’t a factor in the original game, so this is obviously one of the changes for the remake.
What is clear is the “strictly limited” Collector’s Edition for the Alone in the Dark remake. Limited to 5000 units worldwide, pre-orders for the set are live now at Amazon for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions.

Recently Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director behind “The Shape of Water,” “Nightmare Alley” and “Pinocchio,” said that collecting physical media, in the midst of streamers unceremoniously deleting thousands of titles, is nothing short of a “moral imperative.” And we agree. Each month new home video releases – of both classic films and newer titles – come out. And each one is cause for celebration. With that in mind, we want to highlight the very best titles of every month.

Humanity has been telling tales about simulated realities since the very dawn of storytelling, so it makes sense that modern audiences are absolutely fascinated with open-world gaming. Be it fantasy role-playing titles that allow you to step into the shoes of a more magical version of yourself or crime sims that encourage you to live out your most violent daydreams upon unsuspecting NPCs, franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Grand Theft Auto are the closest we’ve come to the immersive digital worlds that were promised to us by science fiction.
However, when it comes to horror games, the genre usually benefits from a highly curated experience with little room for side adventures. Give players too much free reign over their monster slaying and item collection and you usually end up with a gameplay loop that doesn’t mesh well with virtual frights. Pieces Interactive’s new reboot of Alone in the Dark is on track to be one of 2023’s most exciting horror titles; with an intriguing mystery storyline, a unique interbellum setting, and an emphasis on creeping dread over bombastic action.
In a recent press conference, the developers managed to allay any fears that this is going to be yet another stinker in the franchise (like 2015’s unutterably awful Illumination). Here, they showcased their reverence for the original game, evidenced a keen understanding of the genre that they are operating in, and even announced that a pair of Hollywood A-listers have joined the cast, in the form of David Harbour and Jodie Comer.
The fact that the game is shaping up so promisingly is a bit of a double-edged sword, however, because it means that the wait until its release on October 25th is going to be even more agonizing.

“With all of the remakes going on today, you can never be sure what you’ll get at the end.”
It was with this cautious scepticism that veteran game designer, Frédérick Raynal, initially greeted the news of his most famous creation, Alone in the Dark, getting another do-over.
Which is an understandable reaction, given that this franchise has a singularly bad track-record when it comes to being fumbled by outsiders. And that’s putting it lightly, as anybody who has ever played 2015’s risible Illumination will attest.
You see, while other survival horror classics like Resident Evil and (to a lesser extent) Silent Hill have managed to evolve with the times and cling to their relevancy, Alone in the Dark has suffered quite a spectacular fall from grace.
Very few players under the age of 30 will remember the series with all that much fondness, given that its entries have been...

We’re all itching to see just what Thq Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive have cooked up for their upcoming remake of Alone in the Dark. And we won’t have to wait for Summer Game Fest to see it, as Thq Nordic will be hosting the Alone in the Dark Spotlight event this Thursday!
Designed to “unveil answers to some of the most pressing questions surrounding the game”, the showcase will feature new insights on the game, alongside some “unexpected revelations”. The whole thing kicks off May 25 at 5:00 pm Pt / 8:00 pm Et, and can be watched Thq Nordic’s YouTube and Twitch pages.
A love letter to the ground-breaking original, Alone in the Dark lets you experience a haunting story through the eyes of one of the two protagonists: play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood in this re-imagination of the classic survival horror game where Psychological Horror meets Southern Gothic.

The Scanners III: The Takeover episode of The Black Sheep was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Scanners is one of those seminal 80’s sci fi horror flicks. It’s also done by the master of body horror David Cronenberg. It’s a great flick that didn’t need any sequels and just by saying that I have unleashed the probability of a remake and more sequels coming our way. It’s the rule of horror flicks. Cronenberg isn’t immune to sequels either, especially ones he had no involvement in like The Fly 2. Nothing wrong with that movie, it’s actually a lot of fun, but The Fly absolutely didn’t need a sequel. While The Dead Zone was eventually turned into a TV show starring Anthony Michael Hall, that...

Slasher films become something of a cultural phenomenon in the 1970s, when movies like "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and "Halloween" in many ways revolutionized the film industry. Such films were usually made on the cheap and relied on clever practical effects and location shooting to deliver the onscreen goods. But what really made these films so influential is that from these modest origins, they killed at the box office, revolutionizing the genre as we know it today.
Since the 1970s, movies of all genres have gotten more expensive to make, and not all of these films can earn back their production costs. While horror has remained an extremely popular genre both in the States and worldwide, scary movies are just as...
