Plot: The new live-action event series follows Knuckles on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.
Review: It is hard to believe that Sonic The Hedgehog premiered on the big screen just before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world. What is even harder to believe is that the movie was actually pretty good. With a sequel released two years later and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 slated for December 2024, the world is chock full of Sega goodness these days. To bridge the wait until the end of this year, the six-episode limited series Knuckles highlights the Idris Elba-voiced echidna warrior’s journey to find his place in our world. Featuring limited connections to the movies, Knuckles has its moments but overall feels like an attempt to tread water until the third...

"Wedding Crashers" and "Anchorman" star Vince Vaughn showed up during the big game alongside two of the greatest sports legends of all time: Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky. The former Patriots quarterback and NHL hockey legend were seen alongside Vaughn in a BetMGM ad, which aired during this year's Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Chiefs won the game, the commercial was also a winner. But how is it that this became Vaughn's first Super Bowl commercial during his long career that spans more than three decades?
Vaughn recently spoke with Variety about the ad. The ad shows the actor — who is looking like his "Swingers" self in Las Vegas — telling the world at large that BetMGM is for everyone ... except Tom Brady. Why? Because the seven-time Super Bowl champion has won enough. Speaking with the outlet about why he decided to...

Local channel owners may see an opportunity to profit from the announced Jv, but it could spell doom for Fubo.
The entire sports media world was rocked by Tuesday’s announcement that Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery would join their sports rights together in a new streaming joint venture. Cable providers and live TV streaming services stand to lose the most from the venture, and the sports-centric live TV streaming service Fubo issued a public response on Wednesday in which it made clear that it had serious concerns about the plan.
Fubo estimates the new Jv streaming service from Disney, Fox, and Wbd would control “60-85%” of all sports content in the United States. The Streamable estimates that Jv streamer will come in at around half the price point of a monthly Fubo subscription. Fubo has been struggling to build scale and stands at just 1.48 million subscribers at last count.

It's another jam-packed episode of the Empire Podcast this week, folks. First, Chris Hewitt sits down on Zoom with ace composer and musician, Jon Batiste, and Matthew Heineman, about their new documentary, American Symphony; then he battles an uncooperative microphone stand and emerges with an enormously fun interview with :a[Napoleon]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/napoleon-2023/' } stars, Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby; and lastly two walking Disney encyclopaedias meet, as our Ben Travis sits down with Jennifer Lee, the writer of this week's :a[Wish]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/wish/' } and Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

It’s good to see a steady stream of festive horror films being released year-on-year. Recently we’ve had everything from musicals such as Anna and the Apocalypse, to comedy action such as Violent Night. We’ve even been allowed to get a sneak peak of next year’s bloody Christmas as Art the Clown will seemingly take on the role of Santa Claus in Terrifier 3. However, this year we are gifted with a small present that has been placed delicately towards the back of the tree. That present is It’s a Wonderful Knife, and you should unwrap it as soon as you can.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year according to Andy Williams, but that’s not the case for Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop). As others around her, including all of her immediate family, are thriving, Winnie is still traumatised by events of the...

Thank goodness Justin Long has stuck around. After breaking out in the frightfully gross road movie “Jeepers Creepers” and popping in aughts comedies like “Dodgeball” and “Accepted,” the 45-year-old has been on screen long enough to be getting genre-movie roles tailor-made for him — or at least uniquely suited to his strength — playing (not so) “nice guys” in all their dishonesty.
Having tested the waters as an East Coast professor on probation in “After Class” and an idiot Hollywood hotshot facing a #MeToo storm in last year’s “Barbarian,” Long follows up as the big bad in the horror comedy “It’s a Wonderful Knife,” released in theaters Nov. 10, before streaming on Shudder down the road. As the murderous mogul Henry Waters, who slices down anyone that stands in the way of his town’s redevelopment, Long steals the show once again. His have-at-it fun and eerie eyes provide a manic glee...

Tom Cruise’s Les Grossman character in Tropic Thunder ended up being one of his most memorable performances. But Cruise only ended up in the movie thanks to Stiller parodying the actor years ago.
How Tom Cruise reacted to Ben Stiller making fun of him on ‘The Ben Stiller Show’ Ben Stiller | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
The Ben Stiller Show was the comic actor’s own sketch comedy show that aired on MTV and Fox for 1 season. The series was known for poking fun at actors, movies, and television shows at the time. Blockbuster superstar Tom Cruise was one of a few celebrities Stiller parodied in his program.
But Cruise took no offense to the parody. Stiller even showed the Top Gun actor the sketch himself, and confided that Cruise enjoyed what he saw.

Since 2018, creator group RDCWorld has organized an annual event series called Dream Con, which takes place in the group’s home state of Texas. The 2023 edition of Dream Con established several milestones for the yearly gathering: It was the first DreamCon to take place in Austin, and it drew the largest crowd in the convention’s history, with more than 20,000 attendees flocking to the Austin Convention Center.
Dream Con exists on several axes. On the surface, it’s a creator convention that provides a Texan complement to VidCon. For the members of RDCWorld, the three-day event is an opportunity to rub shoulders with like-minded creators and entertainment industry notables.
But at its core, Dream Con is a space for Black nerds — or “Blerds” — who love anime, video games, and sports. It’s a chance to hang with other members of that community and meet the people who are sharing Blerd...

If you’ve ever been around a runner or went to high school pretty much anywhere, you’ve probably seen the cross country shirts with the message, “Your team’s punishment is our team’s sport.” It’s not untrue that runners are usually not shy to talk about running, whether they’re asking you to make a donation in support of them running a marathon or trying to get you to come on a run with them in a snow storm because the texture is just better that way.
Yet, aside from films like 2007’s “Run Fatboy Run” starring David Schwimmer, there are no comedies that punch up at runners the way “Caddyshack” did for golfers or “Slap Shot” did for hockey players. So, when producers Brian Hunt of Believe Entertainment Group and Marc Lieberman from Above Average teamed up to make an ensemble comedy with a very specific kind of audience,...

Everyone needs a home-cooked meal once and a while and sometimes you just need to assemble a group of Italian grandmothers to make sure it happens. At least, that’s the basic plot of Nonnas, an original comedy by Stephen Chbosky (Wonder) which will star Vince Vaughn (Freaky)
Per Deadline, Nonnas is based on the true story of “Brooklyn native Joe Scaravella, who, after losing his beloved mother, realizes he’s wasted time as a single man at a dead-end job and yearns for a second chance at life. Motivated by his Italian mother’s love of cooking, but with no culinary experience and dwindling funds, he opens a restaurant unlike any other by hiring the most unlikely team of chefs — one consisting of grandmothers.“

With seven seasons of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” under her designer belt, Heather Dubrow has seen a number of women come and go from the cast of Bravo’s longest-running “Housewives” franchise.

Every great sports story needs a rival.
From iconic films like “Rocky” or even “Dodgeball” to the real-life drama of trades, drafts, and geographic enmity, the opponent is essential to the underdog athlete odyssey. “Ted Lasso”s AFC Richmond is as underdog as it gets as an English football team with a sweet but minimally-experienced American coach — but that was poised to shift in Season 3. "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" was a major commercial success when it first premiered in June 2004. At the time, the film grossed over $168 million worldwide against a $20 million budget. Its raunchy comedy, feel-good story, and hilarious cast helped make the movie a classic 2000s hit. Now, 19 years later, Deadline reports the film is officially getting a sequel, and yes, it'll star Vince Vaughn.
As you may remember, the original film starred Vaughn as Peter Lafleur, the owner of a small, local gym called Average Joe's Gym that's in danger of being taken over by his business rival White Goodman (Ben Stiller), who's the owner of the bigger Globo Gym across the street. When Peter hears about a dodgeball tournament that's giving away a $50,000 prize, he enters the competition with a group of misfits in hopes of using the prize money to save his business.

It's finally happening: "Dodgeball: A True Underdog" is getting a sequel and, what's more, Vince Vaughn will be returning as Peter La Fleur. The original comedy came out nearly 20 years ago back in 2004 and was a big hit in its day. Naturally, there was lots of talk of a sequel that never actually materialized. Now though, Vaughn has committed to the film and it is in development at 20th Century Studios, with a new writer on board.
According to Deadline, Vaughn will star in and possibly produce the sequel, which does not yet have an official title. Jordan VanDina ("The Binge") has been tapped to pen the screenplay, working from an idea that Vaughn cooked up himself. It is described as being in "early" development, so there's no word yet on a director or plot details. Rawson Marshall Thurber, of "Red Notice" and "We're the Millers" fame, wrote and directed the original film.

We’re not sure who asked for it, but Vince Vaughn is returning to star in a sequel to his 2004 comedy Dodgeball, reports Deadline.
The film is in early development stages at 20th Century Studios, with Jordan VanDina attached to write the script based on an idea from Vaughn. This isn’t the first time Vaughn has worked together with VanDina; the actor starred in The Binge, a 2020 parody of The Purge that was also penned by the writer.
At this time, there’s no word yet about whether Rawson Marshall Thurber — who wrote and directed the original Dodgeball — will be involved with the sequel. However, Thurber previously said “never say never” about expanding the Dodgeball universe. Vaughn, who will likely produce the movie, is the only actor currently attached.

It’s always fun to find one of your favorite actors in a horror movie. It’s especially fun to notice an actor in an upcoming horror movie, move to check their IMDb and notice a litany of other horror movies you’d maybe forgotten they starred in. But to go and watch all of said actors horror movies in sequential order? I know, I know. Somebody better stop me because I’m a wild person with no regard for danger. C’mon, let’s get nuts.
Justin Long is the subject of this completist exercise in honor of his not one but two recently released horror movies: Barbarian (In theaters) and House of Darkness (Currently available for rent on VOD). I’ve always considered him an underrated and charismatic actor with the ability to walk the line between “cool guy” and “total dork” as they are so often the same in real life.

It’s an incredible story that is akin to the story of Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm to a shark while surfing and was able to get back on her board and ride the waves again. I guess when you have that much talent and determination, and a love for what you do, nothing can stop you!
Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Extinction & Afterlife) stars as Amberley Snyder, with a supporting cast that includes Missi Pyle, Bailey Chase (24: Legacy), and Sherri Shepherd.

For today only, ESPN 2 is reviving "The Ocho" to put a spotlight on obscure sports! Variety reports the stunt, which is based off a gag from the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, was first done last year on ESPN U and was such a success the network is trying again on ESPN 2 in an effort to reach a larger audience.
Today's programming will feature loads of obscure sporting events as well as two screenings of Dodgeball, which will be sandwiched between a whole bunch of KFC ads specially created for ESPN 2's transition. ESPN executives tease that if this years Ocho day goes as well as the last, there might just one day be an ESPN 8! I'd be down for that, would you?...

The ads are real. The network should not be.
For 24 hours, ESPN is operating what should really be a fictional network best left as part of a script to a funny cult-favorite film. “The Ocho,” an ESPN outlet devoted to niche sports like pickleball, cornhole and something called “chess boxing” is running on ESPN 2 throughout August 8 – complete with special commercials from KFC. The lineup includes two airings of the 2004 20th Century Fox film, “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” in which a group of misfits assemble to play in a national dodgeball championship televised by a completely made-up. “ESPN 8: The Ocho.” Today’s efforts, however, are very real.
“They are giving less celebrated sports a moment in the spotlight,” says Steve Kelly, director of media and marketing for KFC, which is sponsoring the off-kilter concept with clever ads that show athletes trying to succeed in sports with the chain’s iconic buckets over their heads.

The heart-pounding fun of Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” wasn’t just movie star bravado and CGI for director Rawson Marshall Thurber — it was math mixed with a little but of adrenaline.
“This is a thrill ride — you bought your ticket and here it is,” Thurber told TheWrap. “We didn’t consult with math professors to make sure it made sense, but we did the math with Ilm [Industrial Light & Magic] and we knew we were close. People aren’t buying tickets to see a documentary about a guy jumping a big jump. With any action sequence, you want it to feel believable — but 10 percent more. You want it to be improbable, but not impossible. You want it to feel insane, but not unachievable.”
In the movie, Johnson tries to get into a building that is engulfed in flames in order to save his family. The only way in is to jump from a crane into the burning building,...
