“Rosemary’s Baby” is the latest horror classic to get a many-years-later sequel – or prequel, in this case.
On Friday, Paramount+ announced that “Apartment 7A,” a prequel to Roman Polanski’s legendary psychological thriller, is coming to the streaming service this fall.
The movie tells the story of what happened in the titular New York City apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) moved in and became the unwilling mother to the son of Satan. It’s set in 1965 and follows a struggling, young dancer (three-time Emmy-winning “Ozark” star Julia Garner). After she suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.
The film also stars two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (“Hannah and Her Sisters”), Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”) and Kevin McNally (the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series), with Marli Siu (“Everything I Know About Love...

Between appearing in a minor role for Doug Liman’s Road House, singing alongside Taylor Swift on the chart-topping hit “Fortnight,” and making history with the first-ever RIAA-certified Double-Diamond single, everything is coming up Milhouse for Post Malone. Not content to rest on his laurels, Malone is partnering with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes, and Vault Comics to create an all-new IP universe based on an original idea from the unstoppable auto-tune-loving artist.
According to Deadline, Malone’s idea is inspired by George Miller’s beloved thriller Mad Max: Fury Road and demonic horror films like Evil Dead. Post Malone’s universe is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.

Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo If you haven't yet checked out my Movie Magic article from Monday it was inspired by the audio commentary from Psycho and I have yet to check out the special features for either Rear Window or Vertigo, but I did get a chance to watch Vertigo just last night. While Psycho is great and Rear Window may be my favorite Hitchcock film I have no idea what people see in Vertigo. That film is long and for the most part downright boring. I don't think the con pulled on Scottie is all that intriguing and the hokey dialogue is just too much to bear. The AFI recently named Vertigo the ninth best American movie ever made, with Psycho at 14 and Rear Window at 48. Maybe I am in the minority, but Vertigo...

Writer-director John Ridley has signed a one-year overall deal with Universal Network Television to create series projects for the studio. "When I was approached by Universal, they'd actually already set up one show, so when people are that enthusiastic, you're like: 'This is the place where I wanna be, ' " he said. The yet-untitled drama, which was recently set up at USA Network, will not fall under the deal. Ridley described the premise of the show, which is set in the world of escort services, as "boiling relationships down to their essence." Ridley, who has worked on both drama and comedy series, said he plans to develop a wide range of projects for Universal: comedy drama, high-concept and procedural shows. On the small screen, Ridley most recently co-created and executive produced UPN's critically praised one-hour series Platinum. He also wrote for the NBC drama Third Watch and the comedies The John Larroquette Show and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for NBC and Martin for Fox. Ridley's feature credits include Three Kings and Undercover Brother. He recently signed on to direct the thriller Let Me Take You Down from his original screenplay for Lions Gate Films (HR 5/7). Ridley is repped by ICM, the Firm and attorney Don Walerstein.

NEW YORK -- UPN is hoping the mullet becomes stylish this fall. At the unveiling of the network's fall schedule Thursday at Madison Square Garden, UPN entertainment president Dawn Ostroff hailed the new comedy The Mullets as "the smartest stupid show on TV." The series, which rounds out a risky new all-comedy Tuesday block for the ratings-challenged network, centers on two working-class brothers who seem to have misplaced a few dozen IQ points somewhere in their short-in-front, long-in-back haircuts. "Think 'Dumb & Dumber, ' but even dumber," Ostroff -- who introduced the schedule just three weeks after giving birth to a daughter -- told the media buyers assembled for the network's sales pitch. UPN is trying hard to laugh it up. The Viacom-owned network suffered through a bruising season, with the dramas Haunted, Twilight Zone and the rap soap Platinum failing to catch fire in the ratings. The Tuesday drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer has seen its numbers erode and will not return. So the network is banking that its one growth area -- the Monday comedy block -- can spread to Tuesdays as well, with the third-season sitcom One on One now kicking off the night at 8 p.m.

NEW YORK -- Writer-helmer John Ridley has signed on to direct the thriller Let Me Take You Down from his original screenplay for indie banner Lions Gate Films. Ridley -- whose screenwriting credits include Three Kings and Undercover Brother and who is an executive producer on UPN's hip-hop series Platinum -- also will produce Down through his newly launched International Famous Players Radio Picture Corporation imprint along with Urban Entertainment's Michael Jenkinson. Executive vp Marc Butan will oversee the project for Lions Gate. Marit Weisenberg of Ridley's shingle will co-produce. The project is described by its producers as an eerie tale of murder, obsession, intrigue and Hollywood folklore centering on a young "bagger" for the Los Angeles Coroner's Office who finds striking similarities between the murder of a young woman and the notorious 1947 Black Dahlia case that has riveted the public imagination for decades.
