Gina Carano’s childhood was far from ideal. Following her parents’ divorce, she moved to a rough neighborhood in Las Vegas with her sisters. There, she began skipping school and frequently got into fights. By her early twenties, the influence of a troubled social circle had led her down a path of substance abuse.

Terry Crews is a serial entertainer. The energetic actor has a muscular physique that action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were impressed with when they worked with him on The Expendables franchise. However, despite the hulking image, Crews would not limit himself to action movies as he would use his charismatic charm for such sitcoms like Everybody Hates Chris and Are We There Yet?, as well as being the host for the reality competition, America’s Got Talent. Crews is now ready to throw some fists and let the bullets fly yet again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crews will be seen in an upcoming action-comedy that will co-star the equally charismatic muscleman, Dave Bautista. Crews and Bautista have recently wrapped filming on The Killer’s Game.
The film’s synopsis, as reported by THR, says, “Based on Jay Bonansinga’s novel, The Killer’s Game follows a veteran assassin (Bautista), who,...

We are grateful to Mr. Michael Jai White for taking the time to sit down with us so that we may bring you this interview where we talk about his new film, As Good As Dead, his past projects (like Black Dynamite), and a couple of hints about what he’s been working on and what we can look forward to!
One of the most prolific names in action cinema is Michael Jai White. He made his incredible mark by taking on a complex role in his breakthrough performance as Mike Tyson in the HBO original film, Tyson, which can still be viewed on HBO Max. He was the first and only actor to date to bring the cult comic superhero Spawn to life on the big screen. And today, you can see him in his new action film, in which he stars and wrote, titled As Good As Dead.

The Jack in the Box is a United Kingdom shot feature. Already released in this territory, the film is prepping for a U.S. release on DVD. In the story, a museum receives an ancient artifact. But, when the crank is turned, something emerges from within. From director Lawrence Fowler (Curse of the Witch's Doll), The Jack in the Box stars: Ethan Taylor (Blood and Bone), Robert Nairne (In the Trap) and Lucy-Jane Quinlan. The Jack in the Box is expected to release this May. A few early reviews have filtered out of the United Kingdom. Phil Wheat at Nerdly mentions the creepiness of the antagonist: "in doll form [it] is creepy enough to scare anyone but who comes alive in a more grotesque, terrifying manner when finding victims." It grows in power - the more it kills. Dante at 10th Circle also mentions how the villain stands out: "the clown that is really a demon.

Children of Blood and Bone arrived in 2018 as a refreshing Ya fantasy offering that eschews the genre’s obligatory array of sexy monsters and post-apocalypstic scenarios, centering itself in the arena of African mysticism, focused exclusively on African characters. With the novel’s 25-year-old Nigerian-American author, Tomi Adeyemi, already set to release a sequel novel this December [aggressive glances at George R.R. Martin], the inevitable call from Hollywood has been made, and a film adaptation is coming!
Deadline just reported that the project, which had previously been moving forward as a Fox 2000 property, post-merger is now poised to be spearheaded by Lucasfilm. According to the outlets sources, "the project caught the fancy of Lucasfilm and that its chief Kathy Kennedy is in the process of making this the...

A few weeks ago, in anticipation of Guardians of the Galaxy's theatrical release, I wrote about the Curse of Tor Johnson, named after the old-school wrestler (and Ed Wood muse) who may have also been responsible for 50 years of terrible performances from professional wrestlers.
Since I wrote for WWE's Monday Night Raw for about six months, I wondered if the presence of Dave Bautista, a former champion, would jinx Guardians' box-office mojo. Three weeks into its theatrical run (and more than $175 million in receipts later), it's safe to say the Curse has been broken.

This site and the connections that I have made through this site have encouraged me to write a little more. This critic, Blogger and horror enthusiast has enjoyed watching and reading other people's work in the genre. Over the last year and through other's inspirations, I have been working on a full length novel. The novel is called Blood and Bone, to give readers a sense of what the novel is about (horror). Currently, the novel is approximately 250 pages long and I have made the first chapter of the novel available through the publishing website Wattpad. For those interested in a Winter read, Blood and Bone takes place in a fictional universe, not unlike Cormac McCarthy's The Road. The world is mostly a wasteland and humanity is on the brink of destruction. One lone vampire stalks the westcoast of the United States in search of something, usually a tasty human morsel.

Sure, she snagged a small role in the 2009 underground fighting drama Blood and Bone, but it was her leading lady turn as black ops super soldier Mallory Kane in Steven Soderbergh.s Haywire that transformed Gina Carano from Mma fighter to action hero. Shortly after Haywire hit theaters to critical raves, Carano had lined up another action-fueled vehicle called In The Blood, and THR reports Anchor Bay Entertainment is teaming with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to distribute the thriller that has Carano back in action as a serious ass-kicker. In The Blood will open in limited release in 2014. A VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray releases are also being planned. The thriller pulls inspiration from Taken, but puts Carano in the Liam Neeson role. When Ava (Carano) and her husband are vacationing in the Caribbean, he is abducted. This launches Ava into a quest to recover her beloved other half, and...

Australia and New Zealand have a fine tradition of mixing comedy and horror to superb effect. Be it the early work of Peter Jackson such as Bad Taste and Brain Dead, or more recent efforts such as Primal and The Loved Ones, horror from down under always seems to walk a very fine line be laughs and scares, and 100 Bloody Acres is no different.

Melbourne-made drama Last Dance and local horror comedy 100 Bloody Acres will screen as part of the 2012 Melbourne International Film Festival (Miff).
The festival has revealed a sneak peek of their program ahead of the official launch in July.
Last Dance, which was filmed in and around St Kilda at the end of last year, follows Sadiq Mohammad (Firass Dirani), a radical Palestinian, who, after fleeing from a suicide bombing that has gone wrong, takes holocaust survivor, Ulah Lippman (Julia Blake), hostage in her own apartment. Matt talks to Mma star Gina Carano about Haywire, The Expendables 3, and whether she wanted to punch Ewan McGregor in the face...
I nervously anticipated my interview with Gina Carano. I love action films and getting the chance to talk to a rising star from this genre would have been exciting enough, but I’ve been a fan of Carano as an Mma fighter for years now.
My nerves, then, were primarily due to excitement, but there were a couple of other things that were putting me on edge.
Someone whose day job is to punch people in the face might not make the friendliest interview subject, I considered. Not to mention that I’m an idiot who likes to ask silly questions, questions which someone who is well versed in throat-choking might not appreciate being asked. I felt physically safe, at least, as we’d be separated by a...

In his follow-up to Contagion, auteur Steven Soderbergh makes over the espionage thriller and puts an ass-kicking woman in the lead. That Haywire features a female action star isn’t in itself particularly innovative (see: Salt, Wanted). That the female action star isn’t Angelina Jolie, and that Soderbergh built the film around a mixed martial arts fighter in her first theatrically released film—well, that’s something one doesn’t see every day. In addition to her EliteXC and Strikeforce bouts, Gina Carano has appeared in TV’s American Gladiators and direct-to-dvd actioner Blood and Bone, but here she headlines a cast that includes A-listers...

I’m a big Mma fan, and I’m still waiting for them to make a good Mma themed movie. The sport has had a definite impacted recent action cinema. You only have to look at movies like “The A-Team”, starring former Ufc champ Quentin ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Steven Soderbergh’s impending “Haywire”, starring Gina “The Face of Women’s Mma” Carano, and “The Expendables”, which features multiple big-name fighters, to realize that these athletes are now everywhere in popular culture. And checking out the fights in films like “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” (which also stars Mma fighter Andrei Arlovski) you’ll recognize that on screen hand-to-hand combat is starting to look a lot like something you’d see on a Saturday night pay-per-view. Actually, I’m still wondering if it’s even possible to make an Mma based film that isn’t either a “Bloodsport” rehash, or a retelling of “Rocky...

So… instead of constantly anticipating the next studio produced and/or distributed “black film” to open at a theatre near you (and often being disappointed), why not start sifting through the myriad of straight-to-dvd “black film” releases, with the chance that you might find a few gems here and there (or just fairly decent films) that may have gone unnoticed, for one reason or another.
The phrase “straight-to-dvd” is akin to the scarlet letter for any film that wears it, and that’s unfair. I think we can all agree that not every film rejected for theatrical distribution is unworthy. Likewise, certainly not every film released in theatres deserves the luxury.
There are a wealth of films by and about black people produced and distributed annually, and the vast majority never see a single theatre screen (except maybe at film festivals). So, why not look there, the DVD market, for content,...

Gina Carano wins round one! MMAMadman had published a few set photos of “Haywire” between the former Strikeforce women’s middleweight title contender Carano and actor Ewan McGregor on a beach. “Haywire” is Carano’s first major starring role. She had a small role in the 2009’s underground boxing film “Blood and Bone” starring Michael Jai White, Julian Sands and Eamonn Walker. She was also on the short-lived television show “American Gladiators” as Crush in 2008. Here is the synopsis submitted to IMDb: “Beautiful freelance covert operative Mallory Kane (Carano) is hired out by her handler to various global entities to perform jobs which governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Mallory is quickly dispatched on another mission to Dublin. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double crossed, she needs to use all of her skills,...

We haven’t done one of these in a little while.
So there I was, entering the subway station here in NYC, to begin a long hard day at the office, and a car zooms by, playing a song that was instantly familiar to me, although it’s one I haven’t heard in a long time; I had to do a little mental work to remember the name of the artist. The song was I’m Overjoyed, the 1992 R&B hit by a then 18-year old Nona Gaye (daughter of Marvin Gaye) from her debut album, Love for the Future.
Y’all remember that? I was just about entering college at the time.
Of course, being reminded of Ms Gaye, I was left wondering what the heck she’s been up to lately, because we haven’t seen her on any screens (big or small), or heard any music from her much recently.

Michael Jai White has been in some decent movies, like “Exit Wounds” and “Undisputed II”. He’s played Mike Tyson, was in the second “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie, and even has a credit from “Saved By the Bell” on his resume, and I mean the real “Saved By the Bell”, none of this “New Class” or “College Years” nonsense. “Black Dynamite” is even pretty awesome, and he was in “The Dark Knight”. My point is that White’s career has been interesting to say the least. For a minute he looked poised to become the next big action star. That never quite panned out, but he’s managed to carve out a nice niche in the direct to video market. While White has appeared in a wide range of films, his action movies are his bread and butter. And “Blood and Bone” might be the best of the bunch.

A few days ago, Rhys Muldoon talked about Steven Soderbergh's secret improv movie, filmed in Australia with the cast of Soderbergh's play, Tot Mom.
Now, The Playlist writes that another of Soderbergh's forthcoming projects just signed a slew of all-star cast members. Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, and Dennis Quaid have all agreed to star in Knockout. The movie, described as a "revenge action-spy thriller," centers around mixed martial arts champion Gina Carano, whose only previous movie-acting credit was Blood and Bone with Michael Jai White.
All four actors will portray members of Carano's special unit. Carano herself is an agent who is betrayed by someone close to her. The rat will most likely be played by either Fassbender or another high-profile male actor, who was not named because his participation is yet to be confirmed. Douglas will play a governement agent, while McGregor will play the owner of a private military group.
