Doesn't quite hang together despite interesting themes

Alice lives with her mother and her mother's boyfriend. She is quite immature but when she is given a bag of flour to look after as part of sex education class at school she begins to take it too seriously. However this changes her views on life to her mother's concern.

This short was Luthra's graduation piece from the NFT. It looks at a young girl changed by the responsibility of thinking about parent hood. Although she is only playing with the flour it makes her think about things to the extent that she confronts her mother and changes how she feels about boys.

The short is interesting but I found it's point to be muddled and lost in interesting ideas that well structured themes. The way in which Alice is ultimately changes is evident in her playground `hunting' session but her confrontations with her mother and her boyfriend are not as clear despite serving up a nice (if predictable) image.

Evans is very good as Alice and is totally believable. Likewise all the cast give solid, unshowy performances. It has a few good lines that are amusing and it does make you think - but sadly it didn't give me enough to guide my thoughts to a satisfactory conclusion

Worth a watch because it does mostly hang together and have a good idea at the centre. Sadly the themes are muddled in some of the scenes and drag the impact of the film down a little with it.
