Prime’s global top was blown up by the new charming romantic comedy, entering the game. The Idea of You, a love story about the single mother and the band’s frontman, signified Anne Hathaway’s loud return to the movie genre, where she impeccably fits in.
Here are 5 rom coms starring the actress, to revise one of her most memorable roles.
Ella Enchanted (2004)
This list would be impossible without mentioning this family-friendly fantasy, which appears to be a satire of the whole fairy tale genre. It follows a seemingly classic Cinderella story about a girl cursed to obey anything she is told to do, who leaves her home to find both love and a way out of the curse.
However, it offers a bunch of fun twists and Hathaway’s brilliant performance in the role of the fierce, though gentle Ella.

Anne Hathaway recalled an earlier time in her career when she was required to make out with 10 men as part of a chemistry test for an audition.
“Back in the 2000s — and this did happen to me — it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it,” she explained in an interview with V Magazine out Monday.
“‘We have 10 guys coming today and you’re cast,'” Hathaway detailed. “‘Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ Because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross.”
The Oscar-winning actress had multiple hit films in the ’00s — including “The Princess Diaries,” “Ella Enchanted,” “Brokeback Mountain” and “The Devil Wears Prada,” to name a few.

Anne Hathaway is 41 years old, which means she has long defied the warning she often heard as a teen actor that her career would not flourish past a certain age as a woman in Hollywood.
“When I started out as a child, I was warned that my career would fall off a cliff at the age of 35, which is something I know a lot of women face,” Hathaway recently told Net-a-Porter’s digital title Porter.”The thing that has evolved during [that time] is that more women are having careers deeper into their lives, which I think is fantastic. Obviously, it doesn’t mean we should have a ticker tape parade — someone said this to me the other day: ‘There’s so much to be proud of and there’s so much to fix.'”

Actor Anne Hathaway got one of her breakthrough roles starring in the hit film The Princess Diaries. But playing a princess wasn’t initially what Hathaway had in mind for her career. So to get through the film, she focused on deeper aspects of her character.

Hathaway has always looked back at her time in The Princess Diaries fondly. Initially, there were other young actors being seen for the role.
“I was cleaning out my garage recently and found the master list of who we auditioned for Mia. Scarlett Johansson was on the list, January Jones. We saw everybody,” producer Debra Martin Chase once said in an interview with Cosmopolitan.
But by the time Hathaway tested for the role, everyone agreed that she was perfect for the movie’s central character.

For Kaitlyn Dever, starring as the titular heroine in Hulu's "Rosaline" was a dream come true. She tells Popsugar that she first heard about the project - which reimagines "Romeo and Juliet" from the perspective of Romeo's first love and Juliet's cousin, Rosaline - years ago when she was 15. The actor, now 25, says that even when she read the script back then, "it was always something that was super special," adding, "I think society needs time to catch up with certain projects." The movie stayed in her head as an idea, and when screenwriter Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber called her up to ask if she wanted the lead part for real, she was thrilled.
During the film's production, she met two of her idols: Minnie Driver and Bradley Whitford, whom she calls "icons and literal legends." Dever admits she is a huge fan of the movie "Ella Enchanted,...

A dream is a wish your heart makes, and if your wish is to see countless takes on the beloved fairy tale of Cinderella, then consider your dreams having come true many times over—including this year, with a new Cinderella by way of Amazon Studios. This latest adaptation seems to have combined qualities of many of its predecessors: it’s playfully anachronistic and eschews the traditional Disney or Rodgers & Hammerstein songs in favor of a tracklist of modern pop covers; it also engages with Cinderella’s career aspirations beyond fitting her foot into a glass slipper.

“Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union,” a three-part HBO documentary series offering a behind-the-scenes look at President Barack Obama, arrives on HBO Max on August 4, coinciding with the former commander in chief’s 60th birthday.
Directed by Emmy-winner Peter Kunhardt, “Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union” will premiere on HBO on August 3, before hitting the streaming service. Anne Hathaway stirred up buzz at the start of 2021 by revealing she was the studio’s ninth choice to play Andrea “Andy” Sachs in “The Devil Wears Prada.” Which actress did Fox prefer to star opposite Meryl Streep in the 2006 comedy? Rachel McAdams was the top choice, but a new oral history of the film published by Entertainment Weekly also reveals Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, and Kirsten Dunst were pursued before Hathaway was considered for the part. Through it all, Hathaway campaigned to get the part.
“I remember [Anne Hathaway] sitting on my sofa in my office and explaining why she wanted to do this, why she had to play this role, and giving script notes about the third act,” former Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler told Entertainment Weekly. “When I look back on it, it wasn’t exactly what we ended up doing, but her sensibilities were completely aligned with what we ended up doing…...

Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!
The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

Chosen Jacobs (“It”) and Lexi Underwood (“Little Fires Everywhere”) are starring alongside four-time NBA champion John Salley in the Disney Plus original film “Sneakerella,” which is now in production.
The pop/hip-hop musical aims to leave a sneaker culture imprint on the “Cinderella” fairy tale. Set in the avant-garde street-sneaker subculture of New York City, the film introduces an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in a shoe store. Forced to hide his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers, his luck changes when he meets the fiercely independent daughter of a legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon. Salley plays the tycoon.
Jane Startz (“Ella Enchanted”) and Rachel Watanabe-Batton (“I Pity the Fool”) serve as executive producers, with co-executive producer Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (“Ramona and Beezus”), who will also direct the film.

In 2004, Easter fell on the second weekend of April. It featured Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” as the #1 film, ousting Guillermo del Toro’s “Hellboy.” That was no accident as part of a brilliantly executed release that achieved results far beyond anything Gibson anticipated.
Sixteen years isn’t that long ago, but the box-office weekend was full of titles and results that are impossible to imagine today. But first, here’s the context and some major achievements for Gibson’s film (all figures adjusted to 2020 ticket prices):

It's not so strange for Netflix to cast our favorite stars from the '80s on Stranger Things - over the years, the gritty sci-fi series has blessed us with performances from Winona Ryder, Sean Astin, and more. And now Cary Elwes! In the third season, we see this beloved actor who dominated the decade. If you don't already know him, the English actor played the extremely handsome farm boy (and your childhood crush) Westley in The Princess Bride. Over three decades later, he's guest starring as Hawkins's Mayor Larry Kline, a major proponent of the shiny new Starcourt Mall.
The Princess Bride (below) is Elwes's biggest project, but it's certainly not his only one. The English actor, now 56 years old, has had a prolific career, lending his talents to movies, TV shows, animated works, and theater productions. His work has been in many different pockets of pop culture over the years.

Netflix has released the trailer (below) and launch date (June 14) for Trinkets, an upcoming teen thriller produced by Gen Z-obsessed content maker AwesomenessTV.
Viacom-owned Awesomeness has found enormous success on Netflix before -- namely with its feature rom-com To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and Trinkets marks its next big bet on the streaming platform -- as well as its first Netflix TV series.
The Ya shoplifting drama will comprise 10 episodes -- each 30 minutes in length. Trinkets is based on the 2013 novel by Kirsten ‘Kiwi’ Smith (the screenwriter behind Legally Blonde and Ella Enchanted) -- who will also serve as an executive producer on the show -- about three teenage girls from different corners of the high school cafeteria who meet in a Shoplifter’s Anonymous meeting. The unlikely friends find strength in one another as they negotiate family, high school drama, and the dilemma of fitting in.

Updated: Residents of a home belonging to Monty Python comedian Eric Idle and his wife, former Playboy model Tania Kosevich, were evacuated Monday evening after reports that a powdery substance was found in a piece of mail. But authorities said later that it appeared to be a false alarm.
According to NBC4, the resident called police to the 3100 block of Floye Drive near Nichols Canyon in the Hollywood Hills at approximately 6:23 p.m. after opening a certified mail item from Thailand that released a white, powdery substance. Police and fire officials mounted a hazmat response, and two women were taken to a nearby hospital as precaution, Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Holland told reporters.
However, the investigation found that “there was no hazard. There was no chemical found,” Holland said. “There was no powder to be found.”
The suspect letter was a notice from a shipping company that a package had arrived.

The drums of “We Will Rock You” had Hollywood’s well-dressed elite on its feet from the opening beat, and “We Are The Champions” kept them smiling and head-bopping. Finally, a giant image of the late Freddie Mercury hovering over the stage got the crowd back to standing.
The Oscars steered clear of topicality, snark and in-jokes for this year’s opening, opting instead to rock out with a 42-year-old song made famous by a man who died 28 years ago. With Adam Lambert fronting what remains of the original Queen – guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor – the band performed “We Will Rock You.”
Without a host to star in a Billy Crystal-style clip montage, charm attendees like Ellen DeGeneres or insult them like Seth McFarlane, producers opted instead to present everybody’s new favorite old band. Queen, of course, is the subject of director Bryan Singer’s Bohemian Rhapsody,...

The Most Hated Woman in America is a Netflix original movie that will premiere on March 24th. The film had it's premiere at SXSW just this past week and Cinelinx's Kelly McInerney had the chance to talk to Tommy O'Haver the writer and director of the film.
The Most Hated Woman in America is a true crime film based off of the actual story of Madalyn Murray O'Hair. Mrs. O'Hair founded the American Atheists in the 1960's, heavily assisted with keeping religion out of school and was one of the forerunners of the culture wars and separating church and state. The film is a biopic of her and how she and her family were kidnapped in the 1990's.
Tommy O'Haver has a well versed writing and directing career, having directed such films like 2004's Ella Enchanted and 2007's An American Crime. He doesn't really pay attention a specific genre when...

April is an exciting time over at Amazon Prime. Not only do we get a new season of Catastrophe, the service is making some of our favorite movies of last year available. Now you’ll be able to watch the likes of The Handmaiden and American Honey, both of which ended up on The A.V. Club’s best of 2016 list, from the comfort of your home. Additionally, Anna Biller’s The Love Witch—which we called “a nuanced statement on gender relations whose morals are as flexible as its formal qualities are rigid”—will also drop, although if you can you should seek out a 35mm screening of that one. Elsewhere, Amazon is unveiling another set of Bosch episodes, and a docuseries about Hugh Hefner called American Playboy.

For a film to do justice to the life of America’s most famous atheist, Madalyn Murray O’Hair, it would need to be serious, salty, inspiring, rabble-rousing and not a little bit creepy. She was, after all, a victor in one of the most controversial Supreme Court Cases of the ’60s — ending compulsory Bible reading in public schools — as well as the founder of a movement of non-believers and, in the end, the victim of a most ignominious crime. Taking the sobriquet Life magazine once applied to her, director and co-writer Tommy O’Haver (“Ella Enchanted”) has named his biopic.

As Donald Trump has shown, it takes a particular brand of awfulness to really galvanize an entire nation (and citizens around the globe) against you. And while Madalyn Murray O’Hair didn’t quite attract the same level of vitriol, she definitely earned the title “The Most Hated Woman In America.”
Starring Melissa Leo, Josh Lucas, Adam Scott, Vincent Kartheiser and Juno Temple, and directed by Tommy O’Haver (“Ella Enchanted,” “An American Crime“), the film follows O’Hair who’s atheist activist put her right in the middle of the cultural conversation during the ’60s.

So, here we are. It’s 2017. The world hasn’t ended, and “Saturday Night Live” is back. Did the episode tackle Trump? Yes, somewhat. Was it a good episode? Not especially. Will you have a clear idea of who Felicity Jones is, and what her brand is, despite the fact that she was nominated for Best Actress just last year and we should probably get her by now? No. But are there still any sketches worth watching? Absolutely.
Pardon us: The monologue had a special guest star who burned Internet reviewers and threw us off our game. Or Did It? (It did — have a guest, at least.)
Host: Felicity Jones
Felicity Jones is a good actress, an Academy Award nominee, the star of her own “Star Wars” spinoff, and a fairly prolific indie performer too. But who Is she?...

Ah, the aughts! Just like Us, Anne Hathaway has a few vintage ensembles she'd rather forget about, particularly the bubblegum minidress she wore over light-wash jeans to the Ella Enchanted premiere in March 2004. On Saturday morning at Vulture Festival, attendees were treated to a roundtable discussion with three incredibly different screenwriters. Featuring Karen McCullah (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, Ella Enchanted, She's the Man, The House Bunny), Michael Weber (500 Days of Summer, The Fault in Our Stars, The Spectacular Now, Paper Towns), and Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer), the trio touched on all aspects of the glamorously gritty screenwriting process, as well as relaying advice and sharing anecdotes about their respective films. For starters? It turns out that the ending of Legally Blonde was rewritten after test audiences weren’t keen on the original conclusion, with Elle Woods and her fellow Harvard-ians forming a “Blonde Legal Defense Club.” For more fun tidbits, watch the discussion below.
