It’s new Mariah Carey music week.
The singer dropped her remix to Muni Long’s viral TikTok hit, “Made for Me,” on Wednesday and, a day later, she is releasing Portrait of a Portrait: Words + Music, the Audible Original podcast where the star unpacks her deeply personal 2018 song, “Portrait,” and unveils a new dance remix to the track.
“I love ‘Portrait’ and I just never thought, ‘Oh, we’re going to remake this song as a ‘dance’ remix.’ That was never on my mind. It was a very sad song, very much about where I was at in my life at that moment,” she says. “We did a remix that was very different from the original version. It was very much peppy and happy, all the while still being kind of morose. I think it definitely gives new life to the song.”

When artists are compared to The Beatles, it’s usually meant as a compliment. However, Michael Jackson was upset when someone said The Jackson 5 were “the Black Beatles.” He had a point! On top of that, The Beatles and The Jackson 5 left behind very different legacies.
The Beatles and The Jackson 5 both inspired Saturday morning cartoons
Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine revealed that Motown had Fred Rice, the same marketing genius who helped The Beatles take over the world, merchandise The Jackson 5. The group inspired toys, clothing, and hair care products.
“He even started talking to New York animators Rankin/Bass, the makers of ABC’s The King Kong Show, about turning us into cartoon characters,” Jermaine wrote. “‘I’m going to have your faces everywhere,’ he said. ‘You’re the Black Beatles.

Boy band songs aren’t the most widely respected examples of popular music. Regardless, Michael Jackson’s boy band, The Jackson 5, gave us some of the best pop songs of all time. Rolling Stone named a Jackson 5 tune the best boy band song ever. Here’s a look at what the magazine had to say about it.
Rolling Stone praised boy band songs by The Jackson 5, One Direction, and others
Back in the day, boy bands were often dismissed as frivolous music for young girls. Critics usually had similar opinions about pop music as a whole. A new movement in the press called “poptimism” changed many hearts and minds, and now the latest boy band release will inspire just as much analysis as the latest Boy Genius album.
In 2020, Rolling Stone released a list of the 75 best boy band songs. It includes hits like The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer,” One...

Before Michael Jackson was a pop star in his own right, millions of Americans knew him as the lead vocalist on The Jackson 5’s “ABC.” The tune made history because of its title. Jackson released two other songs that made history for the exact same reason.
The Jackson 5’s ‘ABC’ is tied for the No. 1 single with the shortest title
Many companies measure the success of popular songs but Billboard is the most famous. When people say a song is “a No. 1 hit,” they are likely saying that the song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. With The Jackson 5 and as a solo artist, Jackson was no stranger to success on the Billboard Hot 100.
Several songs are tied for having the shortest title on the Billboard Hot 100. They all have three characters in their names. Those songs include The Jackson 5’s “ABC,” Frankie Avalon’s “Why,” Edwin Starr’s “War,...

Michael Jackson‘s stardom began with the release of The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” It took a lot to record that song and Jackson learned from the experience. The song also became the first of four No. 1 singles by The Jackson 5.
What the producer of The Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’ said to Michael Jackson
Berry Gordy was the founder of Motown. He also served as one of the producers of The Jackson 5’s first (and perhaps most popular) single: “I Want You Back. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, The Jackson 5’s Jermaine Jackson discussed what Gordy did during the recording of “I Want You Back.”
“If he felt the drums needed something extra, he added it; if the bass was too busy or not busy enough, he changed it,” Jermaine wrote. “If the keyboards needed less impact, he...

Michael Jackson‘s “Billie Jean” is a song about a man who may or may not have fathered a child with a woman he doesn’t like. One of Jackson’s brothers explained the song’s connection to Motown founder Berry Gordy. Gordy is a musical legend, but his label’s music faced some criticism from one of The Beatles.
‘Billie Jean’ was 1 of several Michael Jackson songs inspired by Motown’s Berry Gordy
Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine discussed the Motown formula. “If Americans’ brains went to Harvard, America’s talent went to Motown — and artists graduated with a lifetime’s knowledge,” he said. “‘You’re entering the finest finishing school in the business,’ Mr. Gordy told us.
“Our education was fast-track: every song should be a three-minute story with a beginning,...

When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

Nine-year old Juliano Krue Valdi has won the role to play young Michael Jackson in Lionsgate and Uip’s Antoine Fuqua’s directed Michael.
Valdi will play the young Michael Jackson as he and his brothers rise to fame as the Jackson 5, the singing sensation behind such iconic hits as “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There.”
“When Michael was very young – eleven years old – he astounded the world, possessing the spirit and talent of an adult. He was truly an old soul. He and Juliano have that in common,” said Graham King. “Beyond being a phenomenal young talent, Juliano is deeply inspired by Michael and his music, and has managed to translate that inspiration into a presence and performance that captures the true magic of young Michael Jackson.”

The husband-and-wife duo the War and Treaty will have a big presence during Grammy week, parlaying their nomination for best new artist into multiple performances on- and off-screen throughout the days leading up to and including the telecast. But the Grammys were destined not to be the only awards show this season that would afford them a high profile. On Monday night’s Emmys, the couple joined Charlie Puth for a properly emotional In Memoriam segment that segued from the country-soul duo offering harmonies on Puth’s elegiac “See You Again” to taking more of the lead on a balladic version of the “Friends” theme,” “I’ll Be There,” that took it from Rembrandts territory to the land of Ashford and Simpson.
And so did a significant portion of the viewing audience get in on what has sometimes seemed like the entertainment industry’s worst-kept secret: that the War and Treaty...

Idris Elba said his daughter ignored him for weeks after not landing a part in his latest film, Beast.

Jackson, played by Myles Frost down to the trademark billowy white shirt, curly ponytail, and feathery voice, demurs: “I want to keep this about music.” To which the reporter responds, “Is it possible to separate your life from your music?”
Returning to the topic later in the show, Jackson also tells her, “Listen to my music.

In the opening moments of Tuesday’s episode, The Voice resolved the cliffhanger which with Night 3 of the Blind Auditions left us: four-chair turn Desz chose as her coach Kelly Clarkson. From there, we were treated to performances by a James Taylor soundalike, a “sappy little sensitive” cowboy (his words) and an unexpected “adoption” of sorts. Read on, and we’ll go over the lot of it.

On January 16 the Songwriters Hall of Fame announced its list of artists being inducted for 2020: Mariah Carey, Eurythmics, The Isley Brothers, Steve Miller, The Neptunes, Rick Nowels and William “Mickey” Stevenson. The 51st annual induction ceremony will take place on June 11 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.
The announcement of Carey’s induction comes just a couple of weeks after “All I Want for Christmas is You” became her 19th number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, extending her record for solo artists — only The Beatles have more number-ones, as they amassed 20 over the course of their careers. Carey’s achievement is even more impressive when you consider that she co-wrote 18 of those hits. The only one she didn’t have a hand in composing was “I’ll Be There,” her cover of a Jackson 5 hit.

It’s no surprise that Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas is You” is on top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the third week in a row. This is, after all, the week covering Christmas Day. But this chart is actually dated January 4, 2020, which means Carey has done something no other artist has done before. She has had number-one hits in four different decades. (Check out our ranking of all her chart-toppers in the gallery above.)
Carey’s golden age was the 1990s, when she accumulated 14 of her number-one singles: “Vision of Love” (1990), “Love Takes Time” (1990), “Someday” (1991), “I Don’t Wanna Cry” (1991), “Emotions” (1991), “I’ll Be There” (1992), “Dreamlover” (1993), “Hero” (1993), “Fantasy” (1995), “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men (1995), “Always Be My Baby” (1996), “Honey” (1997), “My All” (1998) and “Heartbreaker” with Jay-Z (1999).

Mariah Carey performed one of the greatest Jackson 5 hits “I’ll Be There,” which was a No. 1 in 1970. Mariah covered the hit on her 1992 Unplugged album, and it also became a No. 1 hit for her as well. Mariah performed with Trey Lorenz, who sang the part originally done by Jermaine. The performance was definitely a tear jerker for those in the audience.

Forget government bailouts! Former first lady Hillary Clinton is hoping Jon Bon Jovi can help with her financial crisis. The 46-year-old musician is performing at a fundraiser to pay down the remaining $6.3 million Clinton paid out-of-pocket to support her 2008 presidential bid. In all, the former New York senator coughed up $13.1 million in personal loans. This isn't the first time Bon Jovi, a democrat, has been involved with the 2008 campign Back in October, he held a fundraiser for Obama at his New Jersey home and he also lashed out at the Republican ticket for using a Bon Jovi song without authorization. Tickets for the event on Jan. 15 at Manhattan's Town Hall range from $75 to...
