There has never been a better time for new musical talents in the vast world of Bollywood music. With many existing and well established artists creating their own music production houses, there are now more platforms to showcase new and deserving musical talents. Rapper and music producer Arya Acharya (Aap Kaa Surroor and Bodyguard fame), recently launched his own music production house Arya Entertainment. In this special music talk feature, I was fortunate enough to interview two wonderful musicians who are associated with Arya Entertainment – popular singing sensation Jubin Nautiyal (singer of ‘Humma Humma’, Kaabil and more) and upcoming composer Viraal (composer of the single Albeliya). To learn more about these talented people, enjoy reading our conversation!
Viraal, please share the details of your musical background thus far. I am feeling very lucky. Step by step, I am climbing up in Bollywood. Definitely soon, I hope the entire Bollywood industry will notice my music!

The legendary singing diva Asha Bhosle has lost her elder son Hemant Bhosle. Hemant 66 was suffering from a terminal disease and passed away on Saturday September 26 in Scotland. However Asha tai, as she is affectionately called, was not informed of the tragedy immediately as she was to perform at a concert in Singapore. This is the second offspring Asha Bhosle has lost in three years. Coincidentally Ashatai was performing live in Singapore when her daughter had ended her life. On Oct 8, 2012 while Ashaji was performing at a live concert in Singapore, her daughter Varsha committed suicide by shooting herself. Ashaji returned to Mumbai in haste to face up to the tragedy. By a bizarre coincidence Asha Bhosle was once again performing at a live concert in Singapore when her son Hemant passed away on September 26. There was fear in the Mangeshkar-Bhosle family that Ashaji in her frail twilight years may...

We could not pick just one scene from the great Dil Toh Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. However, the two that stand out for our writers are:
That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!

It is arguable that Suddhir Mishra’s Inkaar may not have scope for music, but over the years situational tracks for non-musical features have proven to be musically appealing, the likes of Shor in the City and Shanghai being proof of it. Therefore, Inkaar cannot be readily dismissed.
The musical-lyrical duo of Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire (3 Idiots, Parineeta and Munna Bhai series) are at the helm of Inkaar. The soundtrack compromises of five tracks and features the musical talents of Suraj Jaggan (‘Sadka Kiya’ – I Hate Luv Storys and ‘Afatoon Ke Parindey’ – Ishaqzaade), Swanadand Kirkire amongst others.
The album commences with Darmiyaan, a pseudo-sufi sung by Swanand Kirikire. Its beginning suggests a sufi/rock fusion and therefore once anticipates a promising start to the album but ‘Darmiyaan’ falters. Lyrically, the track is sound but vocally and musically it favours the unremarkable. Kirikire’s performance, arguably intended to be raw...

Mumbai, Jan 19: Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta is upset that his support for "The Dirty Picture" for best picture title at the recently held 18th Colors Screen Awards 2012, has been made to look like a personal attack on Zoya Akhtar's "Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara".
The director is in a war of words with Kunal Kohli, who felt "Zindagi..." deserved the award. The debate was fuelled after a jury decision to jointly give the best film award to both the films
According to reports, Kohli insinuated that Gupta's interest in "The Dirty Picture" has to do with his next film "Shootout At Wadala" being produced by the former's producer, Ekta.

But whether Bollywood’s once dream-girl turns dream-director is a conversation for a different day.

Lucky lucky me, I got a chance to sit down once again with Raj and Pablo at the Iifa Weekend in Toronto. What did the fabulous guys have to say about the Iifa Awards Green Carpet?
Hello again Raj and Pablo, wonderful getting a chance to chat with you again. Ok, so you have both been to many Iifa Weekends in the past, how does Iifa 2011 in Toronto stack up?
This has actually been the most successful Iifa Awards yet!
Really? How so?
Financially it has been amazing, but more than that the support and love from the South Asian community here in Toronto is overwhelming. The Canadian government as well has been extremely accommodating, especially premiere Dalton McGuinty. We have never seen a stadium that big filled to capacity, the popularity of Bollywood here is incredible. It is clear that Hindi cinema is getting recognition in the West, from Indians and non-Indians alike.

To say that the energy was palpable in the Fairmont Royal York hotel on Thursday morning would be an extreme understatement. Having lived in the Greater Toronto Area almost all of my life, I can honestly say that I have never seen anything quite like this. Yes, the Toronto International Film Festival brings out fans in droves, but none as determined, loyal, dedicated and passionate as the fans of Iifa. It was a sight to behold: media people from India, Canada, UK, all over the world milling about, fans forming large crowds in every corner they could just to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars and of course the celebrities themselves, soaking in the love and adoration. Toronto has been taken over by Iifa fever; every single one of my taxi drivers asked me if I was involved with the film festival and were quite knowledgeable about it, not...

With his political lineage, he would seem just right in politics. But Congress veteran Arjun Singh.s grandson Arunoday is clear that Bollywood is where he belongs. He plays a gangster in .Yeh Saali Zindaagi. by Sudhir Mishra, whom he calls a hard taskmaster..I.ve always been interested in acting. Since my school days I have been doing theatre. I.m not interested in politics at all. As it is I feel there is enough politics in Bollywood,. Arunoday Singh told Ians in an interview.Being unconventional is almost second nature for him. He entered the film world with a negative role . he played a terrorist in 2009 film .Sikandar..The 6′4′ actor impressed many with his suave looks in .Aisha. and then went on to do .Mirch., a film on the politics of sex that also starred Konkana Sen Sharma. And he.s now ready with yet another unconventional venture...

He broke all the rules of stardom and yet was a star, a romantic hero and an all-rounder par excellence. 47 was no age for one of Hindi cinema's brightest talents to go, but on November 6, 1985, Sanjeev Kumar passed away, leaving fans, friends and the Hindi film shell-shocked. Gulzar remembers Sanjeev Kumar "For me, he was the complete actor. I have always said that I had two anchors - one was Sanjeev Kumar, and the other was R.D.Burman. What most people do not know is that I knew Haribhai (as I called him) from the late 1950s. We were both with the Indian National Theatre where I would write for the plays and he was a stage actor. Sanjeev was a student of P.D.Shenoy, who was also teaching at the Filmalaya School of Acting and later turned film director. Sanjeev was just over 20 years old, and he was playing a father!

Hrithik Roshan might be away in Spain, shooting for Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milege Dobara, but he continues to be an inspiration for many. Sher Lock Holmes tells me that the actor is said to be mentoring his cousin, Eshaan, son of his uncle, composer Rajesh Roshan. Suna hai, Duggu dude is keen on his chhota bhai following his nakshe-kadam into acting, and is believed to be guiding him accordingly. For starters, Eshaan learnt acting from Kishore Namit Kapoor, whom his bada bhai trained before his big debut, Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai. Later, he also trained in action ...

Download image as wallpaper Katrina Kaif's plans to fly down to Mumbai for a day to celebrate the Raajneeti success on June 23 from Spain where she is shooting for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara have been dropped. Apparently, inclement weather has made it impossible for her to be let off for even a day. Setting aside her habitual work-comes-first-party-later attitude, she even requested the film's producers and director to accommodate her absence for less than day. Says a source close to Katrina, "Since Prakash Jha was very, very keen to have her down to Mumbai for the bash, and had even made all the arrangements for her flight, Katrina was not willing to give up the idea of attending the function. She offered to be back in less than 24 hours. Katrina was willing to fly to Mumbai, attend the Raajneeti bash on Wednesday and fly out quickly...

Katrina Kaif surely has proved her acting caliber on the silver screen. From her first film Boom to Raajneeti, she has experimented with her look, performances and above all she has improved dancing as well as her speech skills too.
Undoubtedly, the directors and the producers have broken the myth that she is just a glam doll. The credit nonetheless goes to Prakash Jha for his film Raajneeti in which Kats has taken the trouble of dubbing the dialogues in pure Hindi.
So how was it working with Prakash Jha, who believes in hard-hitting subjects with purely Hindi dialogues?
Yes! It was not difficult for me. I can mug up ten pages at a stretch. I have an accent problem but I’ve tried to manage it well. In fact, when I sat down to surf some of the real characters from the political arena; I thought that in the...

Rakesh Roshan has so far never included remixes in the album of his movies. But this time his production venture ‘Kites’, starring son Hrithik along with Mexican actress Barbara Mori, has remixes of three songs – ‘Dil kyun yeh mera’, ‘Tum bhi ho wahi’ and ‘Zindagi do pal ki’. The music has been composed by brother Rajesh Roshan.

Hrithik understood my concerns because he himself visits clubs and pubs and he knows what kind of music is played.

Rajesh Roshan has another hit album in the soundtrack of much-awaited film 'Kites'. The album boasts of five originals and four remixes and all the songs exude freshness and melody. Most of them have a romantic touch and it seems the composer composed them specially for people in love. But it won't be wrong to say that the highlight of the soundtrack is the song sung by Hrithik Roshan. The album opens with 'Zindagi do pal ki', a melodious song, currently doing the rounds on television channels. The mushy song instantly connects, thanks to simple but meaningful poetry and effective vocals by Kk.This track also has a remix version, which doesn't sound like an unnecessary addition.'Dil kyun yeh mera', crooned by Kk again has a soft, soothing beginning that makes you sway. The romantic song gets a rock feel in the middle, which gives it an edge.

It’s been four years since the father-son duo of Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan wowed us with their sci-fi thriller Krrish. Now, the duo returns again with Kites, though this time Roshan senior is only producing. Anurag Basu of Metro and Gangster fame directs the flick.
Instead of Basu’s regular music director Pritam, ‘Kites’ has the Roshans’ favourite composer Rajesh Roshan.
The movie has two versions and the English one is without any musical score. No complaints, as we are happy to get our own desi version, coz any commercial Hindi movie is incomplete without songs. Let’s check out how good is the music album of ‘Kites’.
Zindagi Do Pal Ki has already started doing rounds on the small screen as the main promotional track. To be frank, it doesn’t entice your auditory senses at one go. But the song, so much a typical Rajesh Roshan melody,...

In passing away of Prakash Mehra one more vital foundation stone of the Hindi cinema has chipped away. It is a moot point whether his going away would be felt immediately or not, but in his death an era of Hindi cinema has come to an end. As the dialogue in Sharaabi, which he had himself written and which Amitabh Bachchan had told to Om Prakash "Meri Zindagi ka tamboo do bambooon par khada hai". Big B must be feeling that god has pulled the tent of his film carrier, which was hoisted on two pillars in the shape of Man Mohan Desai and Prakash Mehra, away....

New Delhi, It may seem surprising, but Juhi Babbar, the daughter of veteran actors Raj and Nadira Babbar, was never offered any top-of-the-line role by Bollywood filmmakers. She has now settled for a role in TV series "Ghar Ki Baat", a tribute to the 1980s hit sitcom "Ye Jo Hai Zindagi". "I have too many things to do and don't have the time to do mediocre stuff. What I was being offered in Bollywood was not up to my level and I was not keen on doing just anything. After all, I was not into acting for the sake of making money," Juhi Babbar told Ians.Juhi made her big screen debut in 2003 with box office dud "Kaash...
