For the Billboard 200 tracking week of December 15 to December 21 — just a few days before Christmas Day — Taylor Swift‘s re-recorded album “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” returned to number-one for a fourth nonconsecutive week, gaining an impressive 25% from week to week to achieve 136,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. Read all about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
Swift’s holiday season bump dropped Nicki Minaj‘s “Pink Friday 2” to number-two with 100,000 album units. The rapper was sandwiched by Swift as “Midnights” jumped back up to number-three, up 31% to 75,000 album units. Michael Buble‘s holiday blockbuster “Christmas” also gained, though perhaps surprisingly not as much as Swift did. It rose one spot to number-four, increasing 10% to 70,000 album units. The current tracking week will likely be “Christmas’s” last on the chart until next year as holiday albums naturally tend to disappear...

Cher is a legend. And she knows she deserves to be treated as such. On Thursday, she visited The Kelly Clarkson Show and dragged the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after reflecting on the fact that she’s only the second artist to have No. 1 songs in seven decades after the Rolling Stones.
“It took four of them to be one of me,” Cher said as Clarkson rose out of her seat and clapped. “And I’m not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!”

The final season of The Crown got off to a slower start in Nielsen’s streaming rankings — which might have something to do with the fact that Netflix released only a part of the season.
The Emmy-winning drama was the most watched show on streaming for the week of Nov. 13-19, but its 943 million minutes of viewing was less than half of that for season five’s opening (2.13 billion minutes) a year ago. It’s worth noting that Netflix released just four of The Crown’s final 10 episodes on Nov. 16 rather than the full season; the remaining six debuted Dec. 14 (and, because of the four-week lag for Nielsen’s streaming charts, watch time figures for those episodes won’t be public until mid-January).
The Crown was the only original series in Nielsen’s overall top 10. David Fincher’s Netflix movie The Killer finished 10th with 557 million minutes of viewing, but...

The niche subgenre of Killer Santa holiday horror movies is as robust as ever, offering ample murderous maniacs to spread holiday fear this season. Here are 12 of the most prominent and bloodthirsty of the bunch.
If your favorites are missing, don’t worry; there’s still plenty of holiday horror fun on the way.

There are Christmas movies and then there are Christmas movies -- as in, the ones you can't escape knowing about even if you tried, like "Home Alone," "It's a Wonderful Life," "Miracle on 34th Street," and, of course, "A Christmas Story." You may not love them all equally; in fact, you might actually outright hate some of them! And yet, there are moments and quotes from these films that will remain burned into your brain until the day you die. It's also inevitable that you'll end up having to revisit them during the annual winter holidays, whether it's because you legitimately love them or because you've finally given up trying to convince everyone to agree on something new to watch during one of your family gatherings and just thrown on "Elf" for the umpteenth time instead.
With "A Christmas Story" turning 40 in 2023, 'tis the season more than ever to revisit...

Candy Cane Lane Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jillian Bell, Genneya Walton, Nick Offerman, Trevante Jones
Director: Reginald Hudlin
Candy Cane Lane Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
What’s Good: Watching Eddie Murphy is always a delight, but the porcelain Christmas figures take the cake.
What’s Bad: There is zero chemistry among the family members, so it is hard to take the emotional moments seriously.
Loo Break: The movie is too long for its own good, and towards the second act, there are loo break moments.
Watch or Not?: Watch this only if you really need to watch a Christmas movie. Other than that, avoid it.

Los Angeles, Dec 7 (Ians) Singer Michael Buble broke his Christmas collaboration rule as he teamed up with Cher for a new version of his 2005 single on her new festive collection, said his usual stance is to reject any offers to duet at this time of year after becoming synonymous with the season following his 2011 album ‘Christmas’.
He’s quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column as saying: “Every late September/October every artist, the ones that you know, the biggest artists in the world, start to call me and say, ‘I have an idea, you and me should make a Christmas…’ And I go, (mimics putting phone down) ‘click’, I say, ‘Thank you so much, I know you’re gonna kill it.’”
“I made one Christmas record, 12 years ago! One!”
He had to make an exception when the pop icon got in touch, reports aceshowbiz.com.
He added: “That changes when Cher calls.

‘Tis the season for holiday music, and Bright Eyes have contributed to the festivities with a new cover of the John Prine yuletide classic “Christmas in Prison.”
For their rendition of the song, Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott give it a bit of a beefier instrumental, though the spirit of Prine’s original is still very much present — especially since the recording boasts a sample of his voice from 1993’s A John Prine Christmas. (The singer-songwriter died in April 2020 of complications stemming from Covid-19.)
“It is strange to get a chance to share a track with a hero of mine who has passed on,” Oberst said in a statement. “Normally not something I would do. I don’t like holograms. But I have so much love and affection for John as a person and his music. He really changed my life on a lot of levels. When I...

Remember “Hunter Killer”?
To jog your memory, it was a 2018 Lionsgate release starring Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman in a story about the U.S. Navy rescuing a kidnapped Russian president. It eked out a domestic $14 million.
It debuted on Netflix last week. It is currently #4.
Also debuting was Todd Haynes’ “May December,” with Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton (the latter perhaps as familiar to Netflix subscribers as the two Oscar winning actresses because of his “Riverdale” fame).
It ranks #9 currently after three days, after peaking at #5.
That seems most significant in suggesting that studios have no one-size-fits-all strategy to maximize home viewing, and also emphasizing how key PVOD is to elevating revenues after theatrical release.
“May December” is one of the best reviewed films of 2023, with its already good awards prospects enhanced by key early awards last week. It had two weeks in theaters.

Can there be any lingering doubt about who truly holds the Queen of Christmas crown? Brenda Lee has returned to the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” 65 years after the song’s 1958 recording.
The chart-topper sees the singer once known as Little Miss Dynamite breaking at least several Billboard records, including the longest wait between a song’s release and reaching #1, and the longest span between an artist’s #1 hits. At 78, Lee becomes the oldest person to ever top the chart, a record previously held by Louis Armstrong, who was 62 when “Hello, Dolly” peaked in 1964.
Just 13 when she recorded what would become one of the most beloved and enduring holiday classics, Lee has been celebrating the song’s 65th anniversary with a flurry of activity: Last month she appeared in the song’s first-ever video, featuring cameos by country stars Tanya Tucker and...

It was nice while it lasted: David Fincher’s “The Killer” opened to #1 on the Netflix Top 10 last week and it’s now #3. Another high-profile Netflix Original took its place with Mary Lambert’s “Best. Christmas. Ever!” Trivia ensues: Much earlier in their careers, Fincher and Lambert each directed high-profile Madonna videos.
We’re still waiting on the PVOD releases of October titles “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (already streaming on Peacock), and “Killers of the Flower Moon” (soon to be streaming on Apple TV+). That left a sweet spot for Disney to debut Gareth Edwards’ “The Creator” at $19.99 — a rare film that’s not part of a franchise, and budgeted under $100 million.
The sci-fi thriller was a modest box office performer (just over $100 million worldwide), so its post-theatrical earnings are critical for potential profit. It is #1 at Vudu, which ranks by revenue. It was #1 during the week at iTunes,...

Christmas comes but once a year and nobody wants to be the British TV fan that Santa Clause forgot. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of stocking stuffers that you can add to your Christmas wish list.
1. The Ride in Dalek. This one is ideally suited for small kids and people who have no issue with spending $200 on inflatables. It is battery operated with a maximum speed of 3 Km (2 miles) per hour. So you couldn’t make a living as a professional driver racing in one of these. Also, so far it is only available in the UK so you may have to pay a premium to a hawk on E-Bay if you want one shipped to the States but isn’t it worth it?
2. Downton Abbey Season Two DVD or Blu-Ray.
