Theatre uses new Samsung Led technology.
Major South Korean exhibitor Lotte Cinema today (July 13) opened what it claims is the world’s first projector-less digital cinema with Samsung Electronic’s new 4K Led screen in Seoul.
Dubbed the ‘Super S’, the new screen is in the Lotte World Tower branch of the conglomerate’s multiplex chain and will start screening Cars 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming from tomorrow.
With 96 Led cabinets making up the 10.3m x 5.4m screen, the Super S has a brightness of 146 foot-lambert (Fl) – about 10 times that of the typical projection lamp – and supports High Dynamic Range (Hdr), according to Lotte Cinema.
Samsung Electronics also incorporated Jbl speakers from Harman, the automotive component and audio company it acquired earlier this year.
Hs Kim, president of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said: “On the basis of Samsung’s display technology, we’ve commercialised cinema Led screens that do not require projectors,” adding he was...

B is for Buh Bye Bryce!
Unless the little twerp decides to sue someone for his horrifying experience feeling negated while at Empirical, Younger Season 3 Episode 5 should be the last time we see him.
Bryce representing Millennials in the work place was a double edged sword. He was funny and excellent to point fingers at as an idiot, and made actual hard workers like Kelsey and Lauren stand out in the crowd, but gosh, he gave the rest of them a bad name.
People do put far too much emphasis on what's in and what you're supposed to do to roll with the crowd, though. That's the entire point of Younger.
The asinine concept that because Liza happened to be born in the wrong year, she somehow wasn't capable of doing the very work she does most excellently on a daily basis.
It's interesting that she's falling into the trap she's set for herself,...

Despite the end of American Idol this summer, after a 15-year, record-setting run, reports of the death of reality TV are greatly exaggerated. Non-fiction shows, from NBC's Little Big Shots to the U.K.'s pastry-based hit The Great British Bake Off, to countless international iterations of singing competition formats Got Talent, The X Factor and The Voice, are testament to the genre's staying power. The next big thing in reality TV could be on display in France next week, as TV producers and networks from around the world crowd into the overpriced hotel rooms and

From The Birth Of A Nation to TWC, Screen reveals the key talking points.1. Has Toronto found an opening-night film that will get tongues wagging again?
After what might be described generously as a barren patch in the curtain-raising department since Looper kicked off proceedings in 2012, have artistic director Cameron Bailey and his team found the right weave of star power and spectacle again with the world premiere of Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven? The western remake feels relevant in today’s uncertain times, boasts stupendous action sequences and features a diverse cast led by Fuqua regular Denzel Washington alongside Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeir. It’s popcorn with a message, but will the audience agree?
2. Can The Birth Of A Nation maintain its awards momentum?

On Monday, July 26, famed rock producer, manager, and lyricist Sandy Pearlman died at the age of 72. His Wikipedia page says he "was the recipient of 17 gold and platinum records." He managed that despite not actually producing many bands, or even albums -- but he left a big imprint on every one he worked on.
Born in Rockaway (Queens), NY in 1943, he got a college degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook on Long Island in 1966.
A year later, still in the Stony Brook area, he recruited a band so he could have a series of science-fiction poems he'd written (the Imaginos saga, about a group secretly controlling world history) set to music and performed. He named the band Soft White Underbelly after Winston Churchill's epithet for Italy, but changed its name to Oaxaca after Soft White Underbelly got a negative review at a big concert.

Fantasy epic Warcraft hasn’t wowed critics, but it’s predicted to be a major hit in China - which could result in a sequel...
You may have noticed that reviews for Warcraft, the adaptation of Blizzard’s hit videogame franchise, weren’t exactly kind. While Duncan Jones’ fantasy has found its defenders - Mark Kermode and your humble writer being among them - the film’s welter of characters and CGI battles haven’t gone down well with most. Nor is its Us opening projected to be stratospheric; predictions from Hollywood crystal ball gazers suggest that Warcraft will make around $25m on its opening weekend, which places it well behind the $40m projection for The Conjuring 2. When you consider that Warcraft is a $160m+ would-be franchise opener and that the Conjuring sequel cost a fraction of that, the news doesn’t sound good.

There are several pages out there dedicated to informing WWE fans when something new is added to the WWE Network. With new content added every day and in a rather random way, these pages are a good way to keep up-to-date with the Network and help to prioritise your wrestling viewing.
However, if WWE so desires, it is fully able to add content to the Network very discretely in the hopes that few people will notice and pick up on it. This was clearly the case when WWE decided recently to upload a few episodes of Raw from January and February 2004.
It’s easy to see why they’ve done this, considering the subject matter. Indeed, these episodes heavily feature Chris Benoit, a man who WWE will never promote or even mention the name of, if they can help it. In keeping with company policy, WWE has decided not...

Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Brock Lesnar is match that fans have always wanted to see. Both men have talked about is as being their own dream match, but fate has always kept them apart.
It goes back to when Austin walked out of WWE in 2002, when he was scheduled to face The Next Big Thing. He was unhappy at how the creative was booked, specifically plans that called for him to lose to Lesnar in a basic Raw match. He retired a year later and Lesnar himself walked out a year after that.
Brock went on to become Ufc Champion, before returning to WWE in 2012. Around that same time, Austin started making noises about how he was the healthiest and fittest he’d been in years. Constantly stoking the flames of speculation, he has never fully ruled out one last match in the WWE.

Still to this day, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is the most prestigious title in the entire wrestling industry. Grappling enthusiasts who favour other promotions may disagree, but it’s nonetheless fair to say that WWE’s top belt is the one every professional wrestler wants to hold someday. The history of the strap is astounding, and WWE recognise title reigns right back to the 1960’s.
The current incarnation of the championship is the result of unification between the WWE Heavyweight Title and the old World Heavyweight Championship. The latter belt was similar in aesthetic to the ‘Big Gold Belt’ seen in WCW, but is actually a separate title. Formed in 2002, the title was then made defunct in December, 2013. Randy Orton’s victory over John Cena at the TLC Pay-Per-View unified the title with the WWE Title.
Over the years, there have been many World Title changes in WWF/WWE.

“The Next Big Thing.” “The Beast Incarnate.” “The Conqueror.” “The One in 22–1.” “The Mayor of Suplex City.” “The God of Violent Retribution.” They’re all nicknames for Brock Lesnar, the most frightening wrestler on the WWE roster. And Brock earned each and every one of those nicknames the hard way.
Michael Cole reminds the WWE Universe, every time Brock hits the ring, of the following facts: he’s the Ncaa Division I Wrestling Champion, a four-time WWE Champion, an Undisputed Ufc Champion and a certified box-office and PPV draw. It’s no wonder that the WWE is paying him millions dollars to work a handful of dates per year.
A lot of professional wrestlers are technically and athletically gifted, but Brock stands apart. Few fans, aside from small children, think professional wrestling is unscripted. But even amongst the most cynical fans, Brock has the ability to ‘sell’ the fight,...

Ken Jacobs. Photo by María Meseguer. This past June in A Coruña, Spain (S8) 6th Mostra de Cinema Periferico hosted a retrospective of Ken Jacobs. A legend of experimental filmmaking, this New Yorker gave a master-class about the influence of abstract paintings on his work, presented a broad selection of films in his filmography to the audience, and premiered New Paintings by Ken Jacobs (2015), a new film performance using his famous Nervous Magic Lantern, consisting of a series of abstract slides that he projects with a special device of his own creation. The program focused on Jacobs’ first films, close to a kind of Brakhage-like documentary style, the long series he made along with Jack Smith as an actor/performer, and his experiments with 3D, both in film and digital formats. After all these screenings, we had a coffee or two with him and talked about the films in the program.

Have you seen the indie film about the young ambitious-but-party-loving professional who has to move in with relatives after a heartbreaking business failure? Or how about the one where the estranged siblings are thrown back together and try to rebuild a strong relationship, in spite of their parents? Or maybe the movie where the single person or childless couple learn how much they've missed by not having children in their lives.

Jake (Nick Kroll) is one of those entrepreneurial types so familiar here in Austin (although he's wheeling and dealing in NYC) ready to launch The Next Big Thing. At the peak of his fabulous launch party, however, the venture collapses irretrievably, leaving him broke, unemployed and lacking any belief that he can do much of anything successfully.

Four episodes of season 5 were provided for review purposes prior to broadcast.
Game of Thrones has never been at a loss for words. With thousands of pages of source material to pull from, the biggest problem HBO’s flagship series ever had to deal with was translating a (then) tetralogy of fantasy novels into 2011’s The Next Big Thing. Showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff accomplished the task with aplomb, crafting a show that satisfied fans of George R. R. Martin’s book series which also invited the uninitiated to come along for the ride (think Splash Mountain, just with blood instead of water).
Few fantasy epics of this scale could be respectfully condensed into a TV series, and fewer still would have the dense, but engrossing language of Martin to draw from. Despite having to rely on highborn English and made-up languages to tell the story, Game of Thrones...

I recently passed the one-year mark at my day job – in-house graphic designer for a software company in the higher education sector – and in having my performance review I reached an odd catharsis. I realized that I’d been a graphic designer professionally for over a decade, and had finally crossed the bridge beyond what I deemed pixel pushing. With that in mind, my desire for more was evident. Without a professional filter, I let my boss know exactly what I’d had in mind. In a flash of a few minutes, I’d all but admitted that I was being wasted as an asset… and for the first time, it wasn’t just a load of bull-squat. Just so you know: The first ten years on the job is really you learning to become a productive member of society.

The revolution in TV drama that HBO kicked off with "Oz" and "The Sopranos" involved cable television filling a void that the movie studios had created by focusing mainly on big-budget franchise movies and low-budget awards bait. If you wanted to make a middle-class drama for adults, you now had to go to HBO (David Chase had once dreamed of making "The Sopranos" as a two-hour feature), or FX, AMC, Showtime, etc. One of the interesting trends in the last few years of cable, though, has involved TV poaching filmmakers and series from the low-budget, Sundance Film Festival end of the movie spectrum. Mike White went to HBO to do "Enlightened." Jane Campion made "Top of the Lake" for Sundance Channel. Jill Soloway created "Transparent" for Amazon. Judd Apatow plucked Lena Dunham from film festival obscurity and helped her put "Girls" on TV. Some of these people had prior TV...

If there is one thing that we know that World Wrestling Entertainment (read: Vince McMahon) seems to value more than anything, it’s control. At least, if the rumors of him flying into fits whenever he sneezes are to be believed.
That said, one can only imagine how much it must tick him off whenever something doesn’t go according to plan. In fact, it’s astoundingly easy to imagine that after the kerfluffle of the fans’ reaction to Batista winning the 2014 Royal Rumble to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania XXX, he went out and bought a hat just so he could jump up and down, stomping it.
Admit it, you’re imagining it right now. Easy, huh?
Anyway, that’s just one type of scenario where things don’t go as planned in wrestling. If that has Vince stomping hats in our minds, just imagine what it...

Hollywood is as impenetrable as it is cruel; A business built on the idea of “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” A world revolving around secret deals, nepotism and finding “The Next Big Thing”.
To get anywhere in the industry, you’ve usually got to work for free, sell your soul and be a part of projects that maybe don’t sit so well with your ideals. You may have to work on low budget B-Movie crap on par with The Room or Birdemic, but that’s just how it works. Nobody ever announced “I’m going to be an actor!” and won an Oscar the following week. You have to put in the time to prove your worth, your hunger, and that you belong there more than anyone else, and this means starting at the low end.

In the early days, people just accepted who the chosen one was and got behind them. But with the advent of the internet (and then social media about a decade later) fans have an exponentially larger voice and the WWE has had no choice but to listen. Two recent cases in point come with Cm Punk and Daniel Bryan.
With Cm Punk in 2011, he was unhappy with how the direction of creative was going and threatened to leave the company. The problem was, Cm Punk was the top draw for all fans, but especially the “Internet Community”. When he was given the liberty to drop his first pipebomb, the internet literally exploded and fans passionately rooted for Punk.

The next big thing from Bungie has finally arrived, and it's time to see if Destiny is more than Halo with a new paint job...
Regardless of your opinion of Halo or Call Of Duty, one thing can't be disputed – both games play brilliantly. They're fast, fluid, have beautifully tight controls, and gunplay that's amongst the best we've ever seen. Destiny, coming from the makers of Halo, of course, falls into this category.
Right from the off it's easy to see why Bungie's previous Fps titan has gained so many fans. Destiny doesn't only look great, but it feels great too. This is a polished Fps, and you'll instantly feel at home and in control. Yes, it feels very much like Halo, there's no denying that, but that's no bad thing, as Halo was a fine Fps in its own right. Destiny, on the other hand, adds a whole heap of new features,...

Rosie Perez has been named a new co-host of The View, joining Republican political analyst Nicolle Wallace, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rosie O’Donnell for the upcoming new season beginning Sept. 15.
The Latina actress-dancer-director-choreographer (say that five times fast) is perfect for ABC’s daytime talk show. Here are seven reasons why.
1. She’s not a stereotypical or “cookie-cutter” Latina.
The native New Yorker defies common Latin stereotypes— the sort of which is commonly perpetuated on television. (You know: young and sexy with big boobs and bigger hair, with little talent to speak of.) Now, it’s no secret that The View...

With the 2012 invention of the Oculus Rift, virtual reality became one of the most exciting fields in technology. It also became one of the most hilarious fields in technology, simply by virtue of having already been a big deal way back in 1991. Sure, the headsets are slightly smaller and there are fewer wires and the graphics are better, but users still look ridiculous, and ultimately, it’s like the entire tech industry is double dipping the tortilla chip of virtual reality into the salsa of our minds while chewing with its mouth open and swearing that things are going to be totally different this time,...

The Nyu Tisch grad (who rapped in 2012's Sundance hit Filly Brown) won't play characters unless they serve as role models for young Latinos. She's now riding strong buzz for The CW family drama Jane the Virgin, the unexpected hit of July's Television Critics Association's summer press tour ahead of its Oct. 13 premiere. Today on Trailers from Hell, Josh Olson talks 1998's unsung cult comedy "The Last Big Thing," starring Mark Ruffalo. In spite of terrific reviews this small indie directed by Dan Zukovic and featuring an early appearance by Mark Ruffalo, remains relatively unknown. What happens if you're dating a rock star and you move with him to New York City, only for the relationship to end and leave you heartbroken? Well, use the city as your studio and make an album. That's the series of events that loosely outline "Begin Again," the summer musical romance where a record contract could be the saving grace for a few people trying put their lives back together. Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, Catherine Keener and Mos Def star in the John Carney ("Once")-directed effort, that follows a down-and-out record producer who pledges to make a young woman The Next Big Thing after hearing her sing at an open mic. Keep those hopes alive. It's a pretty silly movie but also harmless enough and watchable, thanks to the cast. "Begin Again" opens in limited release on June 27th and goes wide on July 11th. Watch...

At Wrestlemania 30, Paul Heyman’s client Brock Lesnar conquered The Streak in an absolutely shocking development. Or so you’ve heard. It can be argued that breaking the streak was the equivalent of winning 10 world championships. After Lesnar’s return, his booking had come under fire by many for the losses he suffered to John Cena and Triple H. WWE started rebuilding Lesnar last year at Summerslam when he clashed with Cm Punk, then solidified his monster status with his demolition of The Big Show at the 2014 Royal Rumble.
Moving forward, Lesnar will be an essential part of WWE’s biggest events, simply because he now carries the title of “The Guy Who Broke The Streak.” He’s Mr. Untouchable. The guy that no one wants any part of. Before Wrestlemania the aura of Lesnar had cooled some, but WWE remedied any burnout effects with his win.

The next big thing in movie viewing is finally coming to America. Korean company Cj 4DPlex has just signed the papers to install the first 4D theater here in the United States. Where will it be? The Regal Cinemas Live Stadium 14 in Los Angeles. For those tired of “boring” old 3D movies, 4D looks to take things to the next level by making the film-watching experience more interactive. This is achieved by adding various physical effects, such as motion, wind, strobe lighting, rain, fog and scent-based elements that coincide with the action on-screen. Call us skeptical, but we're hoping this is cooler in reality than it looks on paper. The idea of getting rained on in a theater doesn’t sound particularly appealing. I mean, look at that pic above -- it's...

Shailene Woodley is poised to become The Next Big Thing in Hollywood, so it only makes sense that the actress would seek advice from someone who's been there before. Enter Jennifer Lawrence, star of The Hunger Games franchise, who similarly and seamlessly transitioned from indies to blockbusters. Before she agreed to play Tris Prior in Divergent, Woodley reached out to Lawrence to weigh the pros and cons of being the face of a franchise. Clearly, Lawrence is loving the limelight—she's also reprising her role as Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past this summer—and Woodley might soon love it, too. This weekend's "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," a feature-length, 3D animated film from DreamWorks Animation, is already notable in the sense that it's the first film based on characters from the classic series "The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show" that doesn't look like it's going to be a huge financial disaster.
The spritely story of time traveling dog Mr. Peabody (this time voiced by Ty Burrell) and his "pet" human Sherman (Max Charles) is adapted from the "Peabody's Improbable History" segments of "The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show," and was directed by Rob Minkoff (it's his first animated feature since a movie we've never heard of called "The Lion King").
With "Frozen" finally exiting theaters and "The Lego Movie" losing some of its staying power, it looks like "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," a brightly colored, lively movie that will probably rake in some big box office. The premise is appealing and a number of parents...

Ellie Gonsalves may not be a household name just yet but anyone familiar with her work knows that this is likely going to change very soon.
The Australian beauty is currently making her name in the world of modeling, as she has appeared as Maxim’s cover girl on three separate occasions. Combine this with the many projects she has outside the industry and suddenly you have a woman that is much more than just a pretty face.
Of course it is her good looks that has won her the attention of the mainstream media, that simply cannot get enough of the gorgeous Australian export.
But what is it about Ellie that makes her a big deal? What makes her cool and more importantly, why exactly is she “The Next Big Thing?” WWE fans and pop culture afficionados already know the answer. Everyone else is about to find out.

Just before the world premiere of Imtiaz Ali’s Highway at the Berlin International Film Festival, the musical genius A.R.
