We watch a lot of films here at Quiet Earth and, as you know, we even review some...actually, kind of a lot of them. Our correspondents are always hard at work taking time out of their real lives to attend some fest or another and bring us the good (or bad) word on cool genre movies and we wanted to make sure that their hard work got a little extra attention. They deserve it. So, until we develop a full-fledged review database (something that's slowly but surely becoming less of a twinkle in out eyes) we decided to do a "review roundup" post at the end of every month, listing the films we saw and linking to their reviews. This one for March comes a bit later than expected but better late than never.

Take away the NY and we get one of the most quoted bible passages, John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (Niv) I am by no means a religious scholar, so with what little I do know I'll attempt to share with you some of the metaphor, ecclesiastic fervor, slo-mo madness and profound acting contained in this indie gem.
At first I thought the story was going to be a parable about the three temptations of Christ, transposed with Johny and the female protagonist Sally, but it's not. It's much larger, and more obfuscated in scope and while trying to narrow it to some specific analysis, another portion of...

I am admittedly a huge fan of Gallo, and when I ran across this I couldn't believe my eyes. Apparently I didn't pay too much attention to his IMDb entry, but this baby was shot in 1998 when Gallo was trying to find completion funds for Buffallo 66. Director Erick Ifergan then reworked it and shot some completion scenes to finish it up in 2006.
"A penniless Street preacher spends his days giving out pamphlets and spreading the word of God. One day, he meets Sarah, a beautiful bereft hairdresser who lost her job. She follows the preacher home and tries to seduce him. Despite his deep attraction to her, he pushes her away. Sarah continues to pursue him, convinced that she can win him over..."
Johnny 316 is a rework of Oscar Wilde's 'Salomé' which transfers it to Hollywood Boulevard. There is an 8+ minute trailer after the break.
