The movie was originally released in Italy in a 119-minute version and immediately withdrawn when the directors were sued for plagiarism by writer Joseph Chamberlain Furnas. It was re-released in March 1972 in a re-cut 136-minute version under the title 'Zio Tom.'
DECAMERONE NERO's German DVD has a Super-8mm version of "Goodbye Uncle Tom", (German audio only) as a special feature on the disc.
The character of Samuel Cartwright in the film is stated to be Jewish; however, the real-life Samuel Cartwright was not. This change makes his character more ironic because he supports subjugation of black people despite being a minority himself.
