Hugh Laurie has seen it all. The British star might have never hoped of pursuing acting as a profession in the long run. But a freak injury (and a fortuitous turn of events) saw him foray into acting. And what a journey has it been for real.
The Stuart Little star has scaled the heights of the Industry , with his shows in particular marking the peak of his career. For him, it has all been about going from strength to strength ever since. Receiving his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was all but obvious. But even he couldn’t wrap his head around the same.

Michael J. Fox was a heartthrob back in the ’80s and ’90s thanks to his many memorable roles in the Back To The Future series, Teen Wolf, The Hard Way, Life with Mikey, and more. The actor’s memorable performances and down-to-earth personality earned him a huge fan following.
Hence, many hearts across the world were broken when he revealed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 1998. However, the actor had been secretly fighting the progressive degenerative disorder for seven years at that point. Despite his disease, the actor appeared in many hit projects throughout the 2000s and 2010s. He was a regular in the CBS drama series The Good Wife which aired from 2010 to 2016.
However, in 2020, the star announced his retirement from onscreen work. The decision came due to Parkinson’s impacting his ability to memorize and remember lines. Now, four years later, he is willing to return to acting under one sole condition.

“We’re not what we were.” “There is no good death.” “You want to see what’s going to happen to the ones you love.” Writer/director Josh Margolin squeezes surprisingly funny freshness from the musty themes of aging, death, and lost autonomy in his poignantly written “Thelma,” a seriocomic “Mission Impossible” remix that casts June Squibb as the titular action hero in a slow-moving but still quietly epic revenge flick about elder fraud.
The debut filmmaker’s tribute to his extraordinary grandmother (the story supposedly recounts an actual experience of hers and features a clip of the real Thelma during the credits) almost sounds like the premise of a raunchy Melissa McCarthy romp or gender-swapped “Bad Grandpa” riff. As the aftereffects of the writers’ and actors’ strikes hit streaming in a big way, there’s not a lot of new content to offer subscribers early in 2024. Hulu still has some interesting things to offer in January, though.
The biggest new Hulu Original series in the new year is Death and Other Details, a locked room murder mystery starring Mandy Patinkin as Rufus Cotesworth, who is said to be the world’s greatest detective – at least in this universe. In the new series, Cotesworth comes to the rescue when an unfortunate soul is killed on lavish Mediterranean ocean liner, and he has to team up with the prime suspect (Violett Beane) to solve the crime.
The big Original movie premiere in January is Self Reliance, which follows a middle-aged dude (Jake Johnson) who gets randomly invited into a limo by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, and is soon offered...

Combining two popular themes, an author struggling with writer’s block and AI run amuck, Blank is the story of Claire Rivers who can’t seem to put words on paper even as the bills pile up and the calls from her agent become more frantic. Finally, facing a one month deadline to either produce a book or lose her publishing deal she decides to spend that time at The Retreat, a high tech facility for the creatively blocked.
Her room comes complete with a holographic concierge named Henry and Rita an android assistant. There’s also a weird little device for Claire to attach to her head in order to stimulate her creativity. It doesn’t seem to help though as we mostly see her drinking wine and falling asleep in front of the TV.

As we creep towards summer, Netflix has a hot new list of fresh content, including the final season of “Never Have I Ever,” the sophomore season of ‘Human Resources” and the highly anticipated sixth season of “Black Mirror.”

Geena Davis steered clear of Jack Nicholson post-“Tootsie” fame.
Davis, who worked as a model before being cast in a bit part in “Tootsie” opposite Dustin Hoffman, revealed to The New Yorker that Nicholson propositioned her after a dinner with casting directors. As a newly-minted actress, Davis channeled advice her co-star Hoffman had told her about becoming intimately involved with actors.
“Say, ‘Well, you’re very attractive. I would love to, but it would ruin the sexual tension between us,'” Davis recalled Hoffman telling her about how to navigate a co-star’s lust. “And I saved that advice away.”
The “Thelma & Louise” star continued, “After ‘Tootsie,’ my modeling agent took me and a couple of other actor-slash-models to Hollywood to meet casting directors. He happened to know Jack Nicholson, and every single night Jack Nicholson had dinner with us. Then one day there was a note under the door that said,...

Spoiler warning: The following article reveals the plot and ending of “Barbarian”
Rodents have made a decent name for themselves in movies like “Stuart Little,” “The Secret of Nimh,” “The Great Mouse Detective” and of course “Ratatouille.” But the horror hit “Barbarian” will not be joining that list, because a mid-movie scene involving Justin Long and a basement rat was left on the cutting room floor.
“What happened with the rat in the movie was so gory and so crazy,” editor Joe Murphy explained to TheWrap. “But while cutting the movie with [director] Zach [Cregger], we found that it was so horrific that it actually kind of slowed down the horror of the sequence it was in.”
In the film, Long plays a television actor named Aj, who flees Hollywood in the wake of a credible sexual assault accusation against him. He heads to a rental property that he owns in Detroit,...

After a generally miserable September at the box office, October bursts in with the promise of at least two franchise films, although things will kick off mildly with two very different movies — one based on a children’s book and the other an original.
Sony’s “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is the first new PG-rated family movie in over two months. It’s hard to imagine that families who have been desperate to get the kids out of the house won’t take advantage of a new movie that is appropriate for them. Based on the 1965 children’s book by Bernard Waber, the live action hybrid movie is directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck (“Blades of Glory”) and stars Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, Brett Gelman and Scoot McNairy. She was closely involved with such films as Stuart Little, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Trolls and Starship Troopers.

Jonathan Lipnicki was one of the most beloved child actors of the late 1990s and early 2000s thanks to roles in “Jerry Maguire,” “Stuart Little” and “Like Mike,” but his acting career seemingly vanished in the 2010s. In a new interview with /Film, the 31-year-old actor got honest about his acting absence. Lipnicki starred in short films and direct-to-dvd projects for a stretch of time in the early 2010s, but his career never returned to the highs of his child stardom days.
“The biggest transition for me was…I didn’t work for a long time,” Lipnicki said. “And people always frame that as, ‘Oh, I went to high school,’ and whatnot. And that’s the story that people tell sometimes when they don’t work. Or if they’re a child actor or whatever, they took time off. I did take time off, in the sense that it wasn...

It's likely you've seen his face at the bottoms of your favorite articles, perhaps next to a portrait of Mara Wilson, entreating you to click on an article asking "Where are they now?" Jonathan Lipnicki is here. And he seems to be more enthused about his craft than he ever was.
Lipnicki, as those watching movies in the mid-1990s likely recall, began acting at the age of five, starring as the adorable young moppet Ray, son of Dorothy (Renée Zellweger) in Cameron Crowe's 1996 film "Jerry Maguire." Throughout his childhood, Lipnicki appeared regularly in a series of high-profile family films, including several nostalgic classics like "Stuart Little," "Dr. Dolittle," and "Like Mike." With each project, his parents were always cautious to ask if he wanted to act more. He always did. As a teen, Lipnicki attended school, but, having been bitten by the acting bug, continued to look for work throughout.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II is expected to be one of the most-watched TV events of all time… but it won’t be watched on the U.K.’s Channel 5.
Instead of airing live coverage of the monarch’s historic funeral, the British broadcaster opted to show the 2017 film, “The Emoji Movie”.
The only major broadcaster in the UK to not carry the Queen’s funeral live on Monday, Channel 5 opted for children’s counterprogramming with a lineup that includes “The Emoji Movie”, “Stuart Little”, “Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs”, and “Sing”.

Variety is, as they say, the spice of life, and it’s important to ensure there are always some options available, especially when the only other thing going on is a funeral. That’s why Britain’s Channel 5 is doing its TV-watching constituents a true national service by broadcasting The Emoji Movie and other children’s flicks during Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
As expected, there will be wall-to-wall coverage of the Queen’s funeral in England (and elsewhere) today, Sept. 19. Even stations that aren’t necessarily airing the funeral proceedings,...

Call it royally weird counterprogramming: Paramount’s Channel 5 is the sole major British TV service bypassing the otherwise wall-to-wall coverage of the Queen’s funeral proceedings.
The alternative programming? The Emoji Movie, Stuart Little and Ice Age 3.
Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral – A Photo Gallery
With BBC One, BBC Two, ITV and Channel 4 are sticking with either coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession or related documentary offerings, Channel 5 earned some widespread social media mocking for going with cartoon programming instead of real-life history in the making.
One popular meme has variations of the royal grandkids Louis, Archie and Lilibet staying home to enjoy cartoons rather than don formalwear and follow the procession of relatives like King Charles III, Camilla, Queen Consort and other members of the Royal family.

Paramount Global-owned network Channel 5 was the only U.K. public service broadcaster not to show any royal-related coverage on Monday (Sept. 19) while Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral was taking place in London.
While BBC One, BBC Two and ITV broadcast the funeral live and Channel 4 showed a documentary on the Queen, Channel 5 instead broadcast “The Emoji Movie,” inspiring much mirth on social media.
“No way every channel’s showing the funeral and Channel 5 s showing ‘The Emoji Movie,'” tweeted one viewer while another wrote: “I can’t stop thinking about ‘The Emoji Movie’ on Channel 5 when the funeral is on.”

It’s not every day that you get to see Richard Pryor listed as one of the screenwriters of a new movie. That’s because Pryor died in 2005. But when I saw his name credited among the seven writers of “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank,” it gave me an unreasonable jolt of optimism. If you’re wondering what Pryor’s name is doing on a computer-animated comedy about a samurai canine, it’s because the script is credited to Ed Stone and Nate Hopper — and also to Mel Brooks, Norman Steinberg, Andrew Bergman, Alan Uger, and Pryor, who were the five screenwriters of “Blazing Saddles,” the landmark Mel Brooks Western comedy that came out in 1974.
“Paws of Fury” was originally entitled “Blazing Samurai,” because it recycles (sort of) the premise of “Blazing Saddles,” a movie Brooks originally wanted to make with Pryor as its star. He was set...

“The Breakfast Club” and “Pineapple Express,” both classics within their own genres, will be leaving Hulu in July, along with a host of other films. If you haven’t already celebrated Meryl Streep’s birthday by watching one of her arguably best performances in “The Devil Wears Prada,” stream this fashion comedy before it leaves Hulu this month as well. In 1998, A-list actor Michael J. Fox publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed seven years earlier with Parkinson’s disease, which impairs the body’s nervous and motor systems. At the time, the most notable people living with Parkinson’s were boxer Muhammad Ali and U.S. attorney general Janet Reno, but it has since impacted other figures such as Alan Alda, Neil Diamond, and Linda Ronstadt. More than 150 years after the disease was given a name, there remains no known cause for it, but Fox has devoted the last two decades of his life to answering that question and advancing treatment for people like him. In acknowledgment of these efforts, the recently retired performer has been announced as the next recipient of the film academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

The International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600) dedicated a Saturday panel discussion to on-set safety following a year during which this was a critical topic, driven by the ratification of a new IATSE Basic Agreement — which, following divisive contract negotiations and a threatened strike, was ratified last fall by a narrow margin of votes — and before the topic was amplified by the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.
A culture where everyone plays a role in safety on movie and TV sets is vital, Guild members asserted during the discussion at Cine Gear Expo, the annual cinematography equipment show taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

There are diverse streaming releases slates and then there is Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2022. There are no big franchises here, no big themes – just a whole bunch of original and library titles for everyone to enjoy.
Hulu’s major original releases in May come in the middle of the month. Candy premieres on May 9 and stars Jessica Biel as your friendly neighborhood axe murderer. If that sounds a bit outlandish, bear in mind that this limited series is based on the real life story of Candy Montgomery and her victim, the tragically named Betty Gore. On May 15, Hulu will play host to Conversations with Friends. This is the latest adaptation of the works of Sally Rooney. After the breakaway success of Normal People, Hulu is undoubtedly hoping for more lightning in a bottle.

Oscar winner Geena Davis has been tapped as the co-lead for a CBS’ untitled mother-son legal drama pilot from Scott Prendergast, who wrote the script and executive produces, Deadline has confirmed.
In the drama, despite their opposing personalities, a talented but directionless P.I. who is the black sheep of his family begrudgingly agrees to work as the in-house investigator for his overbearing mother (Davis), a successful attorney reeling from the recent dissolution of her marriage.”
Davis will star as Joan. She is a razor-sharp attorney and a self-made success who put herself through law school to support her three kids when her first husband died. Very controlling and always aware of appearances, Joan must rely on Todd, her least reliable child, when her 2nd marriage mysteriously unravels. And while she can’t condone Todd’s less than legal tactics, she’s impressed by his ability to sleuth out information.

The Season 1 finale of HBO Max’s “Peacemaker” blew away the TV competition to earn the top spot on Variety’s Trending TV chart for the week of Feb. 14 to 20. The Thursday finale drew nearly 700,000 engagements with fans on Twitter, catapulting the show from the ninth spot on last week’s rankings to its inaugural first-place finish.
The status is reflective of the finale ratings, which, according to HBO, had the biggest single-day performance for an HBO Max original series ever. The creator also revealed in a tweet the finale was up 44% from the premiere.

Though the summer movie season is winding down (if it ever really started this year), Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for September 2021 is chock full of worthwhile movie options.
For starters, Amazon’s library movie titles are quite good this month. September 1 sees the arrivals of heavyweights such as Apollo 13, Arachnophobia, Romeo + Juliet, The Descent, and The Social Network. And if that weren’t enough, the streamer is trying out some intriguing original movies as well. Cinderella, a modern update on the classic fairy tale, premieres on September 3. That will be followed by “exotic thriller” The Voyeurs (Sept. 10), musical adaptation Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (Sept. 17), and French thriller The Mad Woman’s Ball (Sept. 17).

Also returning for a second season are Beastars, Never Have I Ever (both on July 15), and Outer Banks (July 30).

Summer is officially here and with it comes a surfeit of new movies and television shows available on HBO Max. Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!
The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

Trailblazing director Betty Thomas will receive the DGA’s prestigious Robert B. Aldrich Award for her “extraordinary service to the guild and its members” at the 73rd Annual DGA Awards.
Veteran Upm Brian E. Frankish and longtime CBS operations’ associate director Joyce Thomas will receive special awards for their service to the guild and the industry. The awards show will be held on April 10, but the DGA isn’t saying yet whether it will be virtual or not.
All three recipients have long histories of service to the guild. Betty Thomas serves as the DGA’s secretary-treasurer – the guild’s second-highest elected officer.

The first images have been released for “Blazing Samurai,” an animated comedy based on Mel Brooks’ classic film “Blazing Saddles,” and featuring the voices of Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson and Ricky Gervais. It is produced and creatively led by Rob Minkoff, the director of Disney’s “The Lion King.”
The project is in production at Cinesite Montreal and is on schedule for delivery later this year. Gfm Animation will be selling the film at next week’s European Film Market, where distributors will be able to screen the latest cut of the film.
“Blazing Samurai” follows the story of Hank, a loveable mutt with big dreams of becoming a samurai. When he finds himself with a new job as sheriff of Kakamucho, he also finds he may have bitten off more than he can chew given the town is inhabited solely by cats.

Is there any career more unfairly represented in children’s movies than that of the animal control officer? In the rowdy new Disney Plus original, “Flora & Ulysses,” Flora (Matilda Lawler) is a 10-year-old comic-book savant; Ulysses is her unusually gifted CG squirrel; and overzealous officer Miller (Danny Pudi) is the only thing that stands between this beautiful friendship and a macabre fate for this cutie-patootie super-pet.
Technically, the title duo is only slightly less destructive than your average tornado. Nearly all the movie’s set pieces involve breaking, spilling or otherwise upsetting tidy spaces, which is no doubt fun to watch if you are Flora’s age or younger, and the type of child who likes to play Godzilla with your Lego sets. It’s also somewhat impressive, if you pause to contemplate the task demanded of director Lena Khan, who had to orchestrate such pandemonium (involving lots of...

“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” is adding new housewife Crystal Kung Minkoff for Season 11, Variety has confirmed.
Kung Minkoff marks the first-ever Asian American cast member to join the franchise. Her addition to the show comes as Bravo has been increasing efforts to diversify its casts across its programming.
Kung Minkoff will join Kyle Richards, Erika Girardi, Lisa Rinna, Garcelle Beauvais and Dorit Kemsley in Season 11, which will no longer feature former cast members Teddi Mellencamp and Denise Richards, who departed after the most recent season.
Kung Minkoff is an entrepreneur who founded Real Coco, a company specializing in coconut products. While not all “Housewives” cast members across the franchises are married, Kung Minkoff’s husband, Rob Minkoff, is filmmaker, who directed the original “Lion King” in 1994, the “Stuart Little” films and Eddie Murphy’s “Haunted Mansion.” The couple has been married for 13 years and shares two children.

Crystal Kung Minkoff has nabbed her diamond. On Monday, Oct. 26, E! learned that the mother of two is joining The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for season 11. This casting update comes after Teddi Mellencamp and Denise Richards' exits from Rhobh. So, who exactly is Crystal Kung Minkoff? Not only is Crystal an entrepreneur as the founder of Real Coco, but she's also married to filmmaker Rob Minkoff. And it seems as though Rob has directed most of our childhood favorites, including Disney's 1994 animated film The Lion King, Stuart Little, Stuart Little 2, The Haunted Mansion, The Forbidden Kingdom and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Crystal and Rob married back in 2007 and share two...

1999 was the year that M. Night Shyamalan burst onto the scene out of nowhere and instantly established himself as one of the most exciting talents in Hollywood after writing the screenplay for massively popular family movie and box office smash hit Stuart Little, as well as performing uncredited rewrites on the script for beloved teen rom-com She’s All That. Oh, and he also directed The Sixth Sense.
The supernatural chiller was one of the year’s defining movies, earning over $670 million at the box office and going on to scoop six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, not to mention it had a shocking twist ending that would go on to dominate popular culture for months and launch a thousand parodies.

The recent debut of HBO Max has only increased the competition in the streaming wars, and with both WarnerMedia and Disney having launched their own in-house platforms to try and compete with Netflix and Amazon Prime, they’ll have to make do with pre-existing content for the time being as they slowly but surely start to build up their library of original projects.
Obviously, the superhero genre is set to play a huge part in the potential success of both HBO Max and Disney Plus thanks to the hype surrounding the Snyder Cut of Justice League and the shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe respectively, but it’ll be a while before they can match the two market leaders when it comes to the sheer quantity of exclusives.
