Three aging but still-limber tap dancers show youngsters where it's at in George T. Nierenberg's loving documentary No Maps on My Taps. Released in 1979, when interest in the art form was at a low ebb (Gregory Hines' Tap and Tap Dance in America were still a decade away, though his career was already maturing), the film is the latest restored under the imprimatur of Milestone Films, the stalwart boutique distributor that has been especially attentive of late to films about the African-American experience. Taps will play especially well at dance-centric events, of course (its NYC debut coincides with the Tap...

HollywoodNews.com:Directors Guild of America President Taylor Hackford today announced the DGA’s nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television and Commercials for the year 2011.
?The caliber of work being done on television these days is incredible, and our director nominees in each category are an indispensable element to the success of every project — establishing and enhancing the vision and tone, eliciting outstanding performances and furthering the narrative arc through their creative choices,? said Hackford. ?That they are able to create excellence regardless of obstacles like tighter schedules and in an environment in which audiences have more entertainment options to choose from — is a true testament to the importance of directorial skill in television.?
The winners will be announced at the 64th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles.

The nominees for the 2010 Rose d'Or TV show competition were unveiled Thursday at simultaneous events in London and Lucerne, Switzerland.
An international jury panel selected 110 shows from 515 entries submitted, an all-time record in the festival's 50-year history. Oddly, the U.S. contestants numbered only three -- NBC's "Parenthood," Wnet's "Dance in America" and Telemundo's "Missing" -- while the British field, typically, was the largest, numbering 48.
The winners will be decided during the 50th Rose d'Or fest, which unspools in Lucerne from Sept. 18-22. The Rose d'Or is one of the only global awards for television entertainment.
Fest director Rolf Probala revealed details of the nominated programs to invitees at BAFTA headquarters in London and at Lucerne's Schweizerhof Hotel, where this year's fest will be based.
Generally speaking, the international breakdown of the nomineeswas fairly wide-ranging but with most countries, like the U.S., fielding ony a few entries. Germany boasted...

Set your DVRs, nerds! Tonight at 9 p.m., PBS airs a repeat of last year's Dance in America: San Francisco Ballet's Nutcracker, hosted by Dancing With the Stars' season 6 winner winner Kristi Yamaguchi. I know that if I wasn't totally committed to keeping up with the PBS schedule (can't wait for Local Programming at 3 a.m.!), I would have wanted a reminder.
