The Belgian Air Force's Koksijde base helicopter rescue team celebrates diver Frans de Gruyter's 4000th flight hour with a surprise party. It's cut short by a fishery boat in trouble, but Frans looses his nerve, some equipment fails and weather conditions are appalling. The wounded victim dies, and commanding major De Jonghe questions everybody's performance.

Diver Frans having resigned 'voluntarily', the team is not very welcoming to his Dutch successor, Dirk De Groot, but he proves capable and the rumor spread about dolphin butchering in his Navy days most misleading. Both rescues go well, but the last leaves them babysitting twelve minor Polish passengers, spoiling their weekend plans. CO Jean Louis Hubert De Jonghe has the base cleaned up in case his father in law, Air Force general Cassiman, inspects it informally, but sabotages his wife Anne's plan to 'speed up' his career by insisting a helicopter base CO needs a few years to modernize its management.

Patrick Adams's hostility towards Dutch newcomer Dirk De Groot, who replaces his former partner, soon looses out when Peter convinces the mates to give his new fitness training course, assigned by the CO, a fair go. A routine training s interrupted to answer an airplane distress call suggesting a crash near Air Force fighters base Kleine Brogel. It turns out to be a false alarm, but Peter, who transferred from there, enjoys presenting his helicopter rescue mates to his former fighter cremates, a recipe for cocky rivalry. Nick tries to tackle the mice problem by mascot theft.

Following the rescue of a Norwegian ship, Peter is stranded on an English Channel Island and must spend the night aboard a tiny ship with his female crew-mate while his girlfriend prepares renovating their new home with ever-helpful Dirk. Nick's latest 'easy money' scam involves knock-off party luxuries.

The commander orders the unamused crew to remain on call for two days of exercises with the gendarmerie (then Belgian paramilitary police), but they soon find out it's a covert operation. Demanding a formal briefing first, they learn it's to assist arresting drug dealers at sea during a contraband cargo loading. Both corps rival barely friendly, but cooperate well. Crew commander Govaerts is terrified when surveillance pictures show the exclusive jacket he bought his rascal son Lucas in the States, fearing he was dragged in by dodgy mate Sven.

A thoughtless helicopter abuse damages an army major's home roof. Pilot Peter gets off easily, just being 'volunteered' for the sea dropping, for which cocky Mike actually volunteers as well. Diver Dirk enjoys sea fishing aboard professional friend Willem's boat, but when that needs rescue later, commits an emotional error and fails to save his life, which exposes him to a court martial.

Last year one of its crew won, but to the eternal Dutch rival's delight, the other Belgian Air Force crew is bumbling, mainly due to various tensions and personal worries. Airhead girl scouts who managed to get trapped in quicksand, from Nick's daughter's troop, cause a real rescue upset.

Mostly grudgingly, one helicopter rescue crew spends the weekend on a mandatory survival dropping exercise, trying to avoid army crack units who can earn leave by catching them. While Kurt counts on his brothel friend to escape to a luxury hotel, his mate barely minds being caught after receiving the news his first son is born. Peter has every confidence in Stef, who is eager to prove himself worthy of a shot at a command grade, but when they risk being caught last-minute, the duos' daring abseiling goes tragically wrong. Bob's crew is diverted from their tedious task, transporting the CO's international guests while his lush wife is checked into rehab.

Dirk proudly takes his Belgian rescue mates to a Dutch test facility near his northern province. While Bob grudgingly serves as 'volunteer' for a centrifuge, Nick is utterly humiliated, nearly drowning in an underwater crash test. Stef is recovering physically but a mental wreck, fearing he may never fly again. Jef is deeply hurt when all his efforts to fix Anne's hoe aren't even rewarded with a kiss, let alone the relationship he expected. Mike's pride while mentoring Peter in his fighter is hurt in an incident.

Team commander Bob gloomily prepares for his retirement party, which seems to go pear-shaped while he keeps missing missions on his last day of active duty. Kurt treats Jef to a sea fishing day, but his incompetence with he anchor finds them rescued. Jef joins Stef in hospital, but also finds a nurse as lover. A fire emergency cuts the surprise party in the town hall short.

Jef has been wed to his nurse in hospital by the padre, who only informs the crew-mates later, so they decide to deliver a present and prank at their until then secret, but thus extremely exposed, beach honeymoon camp site. The base commander welcomes his wife back from rehab, although unannounced, even treats her to home-cooked dinner.

Koksijde Air Force base is hosting an international military air show. Retired captain Bob finds himself helping out the crews, already overburdened, except Jef, who does a brilliant job as MC. Stef is finally up, albeit it on crutches. Then duty calls as a family is drowning in their sinking yacht.
