The trailer for Longlegs, Nicolas Cage’s new horror movie, makes it looks like a serial killer film. Interestingly, Cage compared the film to a character from Pinocchio. However, the film was directed by the son of a horror movie legend.
Nicolas Cage said ‘Longlegs’ is about ‘a possessed Geppetto’
Anthony Perkins was a talented actor who appeared in numerous films and television shows, but he will always be most remembered for playing Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Bates was one of the first realistic serial killers to be portrayed onscreen in an American movie. Perkins would reprise the role in three sequels. His son, Oz Perkins, is now a horror director known for the offbeat films Gretel & Hansel and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. He also directed Cage’s upcoming film, Longlegs.

The first three Star Wars films are often cited as some of the best Hollywood movies of all time, while The Phantom Menace received far less glowing reviews. George Lucas reacted to the critical trashing, saying the reviews for The Phantom Menace were identical to those for the previous Star Wars films. Fans should not take him at his word.
George Lucas defended a controversial character from ‘The Phantom Menace’
During a 1999 interview with Empire Magazine, Lucas shrugged off the negative reviews of The Phantom Menace. “The critics pretty much hated the first three movies; they said the dialogue is bad, the acting’s wooden, no story, too many special effects, it’s a children’s film,” he said.
“That same review got moved to Empire Strikes Back, that same review got moved to Return of the Jedi, and that is the review that is getting reprinted now. You’d think that after a while,...

There was a time when Star Wars was innovative. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was the moment George Lucas allowed the series to become a shell of its former self. While some fans feel that time has been kind to the movie, it’s only gotten worse with age.
25 years later, 2 elements of ‘The Phantom Menace’ are inexcusable
The Phantom Menace is a boring movie about political shenanigans starring a bunch of characters who rarely emote and a large orange lizard named Jar Jar Binks. If it was one of the many science fiction films made in the direct aftermath of the original Star Wars, like Message from Space or The Black Hole, no one would defend it. Because the movie has the phrase “Star Wars” in its title, it will always have defenders.
The movie was always bad, but age has made it worse for two reasons.

The "Star Wars" prequels constitute one of the biggest and most controversial set of movies of all time. Incredibly successful, both during its original theatrical run and in subsequent re-releases, "The Phantom Menace" was hugely anticipated by the summer of 1999, driving impossible-to-meet expectations. When the film was released, it made lots of money, but left some audiences cold. Over time, the image of "The Phantom Menace" as the beginning of the end for the franchise far, far away was cemented.
Except, that was 25 years ago. In the time since, kids who grew up on the prequels and additional material like "The Clone Wars" expanding the story and the characters have become more vocal online. It also helped that disappointment over the sequel trilogy has driven fans back to the prequels and George Lucas' unique and clear vision.

Geroge Lucas changed the face of the galaxy far, far away when the first installment in the prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies was released in 1999. The Phantom Menace introduced viewers to the character of Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson, who plays an integral role in the stories of both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn was not in George Lucas’ plans for The Phantom Menace.
However, according to reports, Lucas’ original plans for the film almost did not include Neeson’s character. Moreover, when Lucas did plan to incorporate the Qui-Gon Jinn character, the initial idea was so outrageous that it would have not only upset loyal fans of the franchise but it is hard to imagine Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor being on board with it. Here is everything you need to know about the original plan for Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace.

The "Star Wars" prequel trilogy kicked off 25 years ago with the release of "The Phantom Menace," aka Episode I. At the time, hype was off the charts for George Lucas' first new movie in a galaxy far, far away in more than a decade. Despite being a massive financial success, the movie's reputation, and the prequel trilogy's reputation for that matter, are complicated. Many people hated the movies in their day. While the narrative has changed a lot, Lucas had people warning him that the story he planned to tell of a young Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader might ruin the franchise. He just didn't care to listen.
In a 2005 interview with Rolling Stone around the time that "Revenge of the Sith" was hitting theaters, Lucas explained that those around him at Lucasfilm were nervous about his plans for the prequels. Darth Vader had a scary mystique around him as...

Jar Jar Binks has undeniably been a controversial addition to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. While initially intended to provide comic relief with his pseudo-Caribbean accent, he became the most hated character in the entire galaxy. Fans expressed dissatisfaction and viewed him as an annoying companion that detracts from the main storyline.

So when the prequel trilogy unfolded, creators diminished his role and instead focused on his interactions with Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) on Naboo. Even in those moments, the frustration of Qui-Gon was evident as he criticized Gungan for his lack of intelligence and dismissed him. These encounters set the tone for the audience’s perception of Jar Jar throughout the trilogy.

Star Wars: James Mangold's First Jedi Movie May Have Just Got A New Title With Ties To The Last Jedi
During last April's Star Wars Celebration in London, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold confirmed plans to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away to tell the story of the First Jedi.
While it's been revealed that this Star Wars movie will be set roughly 25,000 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, few updates have been shared since. That's likely because the Logan director is currently busy shooting his Bob Dylan biopic.
Talking to SFX (via SFFGazette.com), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Acolyte producer Simon Emanuel potentially revealed a new title for a movie we've been referring to as Dawn of the Jedi.
"James Mangold's Jedi Prime is set thousands and thousands of years before [the original trilogy]," he said, "and I'm really excited to see what happens there."
Jedi Prime?
Not only is that a pretty cool name, but it may have major implications for the movie itself.

Star Wars: The Acolyte continues to intrigue and divide fans in equal measure. Despite that latter point, it looks set to be be a crucial chapter in the story of how the Sith returned to prominence before The Phantom Menace.
The Disney+ series reportedly takes place roughly 100 years before the events of that movie, meaning we're likely to meet Emperor Palpatine's Master, Darth Plagueis.
We've seen more than a few glimpses of a red lightsaber in recent promos for The Acolyte, and in an interview with SFX (via SFFGazette.com), executive producer Simon Emanuel revealed that he enlisted action designer Chris Clark Cowan to work on the show.
Why does that matter? Well, he was one of the key creatives behind Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's unforgettable Darth Vader hallway scene!

For a while, Jar Jar Binks seemed to be the most hated character in cinema. The backlash against him was something to behold following the release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 25 years ago, but attitudes towards the Gungan have softened somewhat as a new generation has embraced the character. While speaking with Inverse, Best revealed that Star Wars creator George Lucas gave him a valuable piece of advice at the height of the Jar Jar backlash.
“I think it’s wonderful the younger generations are embracing not only the prequels, but Jar Jar specifically,” Best said. “This is something that George kind of predicted when all the backlash happened. He was like, ‘Thirty years from now, nobody’s going to be talking about this.’ And it was tough to realize that in the moment, but now here we are, 25 years later, and he was right.“

Star Wars is a film that is a very important part of cinematic history. George Lucas’ third film and his greatest success in his cinematic career, Star Wars stands as one of the most influential film series in Western cinema. However, it is no secret that the film took a significant toll on Lucas’s health, something that landed the visionary director in the hospital.
Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Star Wars: Episode IV put the director in the hospital, which caused everyone to panic because no one was sure what the film was actually about. Lucas’ then-wife, Marcia Lucas, was responsible for cutting the film to size, majorly contributing to the film being recognized as the masterpiece that is. Star Wars ended up being made without any severe harm to Lucas’ health, but it does not mean that the director did not suffer during the film’s production.

Even though chatter has died down quite a bit since the movie opened in early April, A24's "Civil War" has managed to do pretty well for itself at the box office. Director Alex Garland's politically-charged view of a future America divided by war has found an audience even as bigger movies like "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," "The Fall Guy," and now "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" have entered the marketplace. So much so that it now ranks as A24's second-biggest movie of all time at the global box office, and only the company's second title to cross the $100 million mark.
In its fifth weekend of release, "Civil War" added $1.8 million domestically to its growing total. It stayed in the top ten, coming in just above the re-release of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" ($1.5 million) and just below "Kung Fu Panda 4" ($1.82 million). That...

Keira Knightley was critical about wearing corsets for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean, despite admitting that it was an easy way to slip into the character of a royal woman. "Star Wars" is very unique even in and amongst other major franchises. One thing that stands out is that even minor characters with mere seconds of screen time can achieve some form of infamy in the greater pop culture consciousness. Boba Fett, played by actor Jeremy Bulloch, remains the best example of this. But Amy Allen experienced her own version of this phenomenon when she played the Twi'lek Jedi Master Aayla Secura in George Lucas' prequel trilogy.
Aayla appeared in both "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," though she traces her roots back to the pages of the "Star Wars" comics published by Dark Horse in the early 2000s, having appeared on the cover of "Star Wars" #33 in 2001 as part of the "Darkness" arc, for example. The mighty Planet of the Apes franchise ruled again at the box office, with the movie earning a mighty $56.5 million domestically (according to ComScore), which puts it right in line with the previous openings of Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($54.8 million) and War for the Planet of the Apes ($56.2 million). Dawn of the Planet of the Apes made a lot more at $72 million, but times have changed, and now a $50 million-plus opening is cause for celebration at the House of Mouse, with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes the first solid box office win for Disney (who are releasing through 20th Century Films) in a while. This is much more than the $40 million we predicted earlier this week.

Originally, the summer of ’99 was supposed to be all about Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but a few weeks before that movie opened, The Mummy turned out to be an unexpected smash for Universal Pictures, with it spawning two sequels, a spin-off movie, and (less cool), a reboot.
With the movie turning twenty-five, the film’s director Stephen Sommers, revisited the film during an extended sit-down with THR. For those who may not be aware of his career, Sommers made a whole slew of super-fun adventure movies in the 90s, including a really solid re-imagining of The Jungle Book for Disney and the creature feature Deep Rising. When “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” debuted on May 19, 1999, few movies before (or since) were greeted with more fevered anticipation. Not only was the movie the first new “Star Wars” movie in a generation, but it was touted as the first of a prequel trilogy charting the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Knight fated to turn to the dark side as Darth Vader.
Despite the breathless build up, by the end of that summer, the near-universal consensus was that “The Phantom Menace” was, at best, a colossal disappointment and, at worst, a calamitous embarrassment. Some blamed the decision by George Lucas — directing for the first time since 1977’s “A New Hope” — to start the story with a precocious 9-year-old Anakin (Jake Lloyd). Others railed against the slapstick antics and pidgin English of Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best), hyped as the first-ever CG main character in a live-action movie.
