  Rayden : [narrating]  Mortal Kombat is not about death, but rather the preservation of life. Liu Kang and a few chosen fighters from the Earth realm defeated Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung. According to the rules of Mortal Kombat, their victory preserved the safety of the Earth for one more generation. Our chosen ones were returned to Liu Kang's home on Earth, only to enjoy a brief period of peace... for someone from Outworld has a different point of view.

• Rayden : Years ago, my father had agreed that his heir to the family throne must be strong enough to kill his own brother in battle if necessary. I beat my brother, but I could not kill him. Only one thing is certain; Khan must die.

  Liu Kang : This time, you're going to kill him.

  Rayden : I could not then, I cannot now.

  Liu Kang : So, what do we do?

  Rayden : You will do your best! It is all that can be expected. I will pray for you all.

• Liu Kang : Rayden, you cannot die.

  Rayden : I am proud to die... a mortal.

• Jax : If your Father's an Elder God, what does that make Kahn?

  Lord Rayden : Shao Kahn is my brother.

  Rayden : My brother died a long time ago. His heart, anyway.

  Rayden : Kahn, you hide behind a human?

  Shao Kahn : Why not, Lord Rayden? You've hidden behind them your entire pathetic life!

• Rayden : [noticing Jax's enhancements]  What's the deal with your arms?

  Jax : I've known you one minute and you dissin' me already?

  Rayden : I mean no disrespect. You have real skills. Those arms aren't your strength, they're your weakness.

  Jax : Show's what you know, these things right here, state of the art.

  Rayden : Faith in yourself is all you need,

  Rayden : and I say that to all of you.

• Lord Rayden : [Coming into the Temple of the Elder Gods]  I have come to the Eternal Palace. Because your sacred rules have been broken. Shao Kahn has invaded the Earth.

  [Then, the dark place turns into the temple] 

  Elder God of Wind : As always Lord Rayden, you are granted 3 questions.

  Lord Rayden : This one must be, why was this treachery ever allowed?

  Elder Water God : We do not control the destiny of men.

  Elder Fire God : Everybody possesses the ability to change their fate.

  Lord Rayden : So, you will stand by and watch the ruination of Earth?

  Elder God of Wind : You are correct, believing Princess Kitana is the key to closing Kahn's portals

  Lord Rayden : But, if I reunited her with Sindel, how can I be sure that the portals will stay closed until the next tournament?

  Elder Water God : Only if Shao Kahn is destroyed should the future be safe.

  Elder God of Wind : By living amongst the humans, do you really care for them?

  Lord Rayden : More than I can remember.

  Elder Water God : Do you love them so much to sacrifice your immortality?
