The first American film to be shot entirely on location in India.
Tane McClure was hospitalized for three days during shooting for food poisoning. The scene in which her character double-crosses Jake was filmed during a brief leave from the hospital and was specially shot to hide the IV needle still stuck in her arm.
A real taxidermic snake was used for the scene in which Jake shoots the cobra sent to kill him; it had been killed and stuffed by the Indian crew the night before filming, against the wishes of director Fred Olen Ray.
Evan Lurie was set to be the film's action choreographer but suffered a heat stroke and was replaced predominantly by Art Camacho while he was recovering.
The crew were advised to take medication in case they were to contract malaria while filming in India. However, once they took the medication they wouldn't be able to consume alcohol, so the crew decided to risk getting malaria so they could have alcohol while making the movie.
