Johnny is the youngest of the three brothers, while Chez is the middle child. However, Chris Penn was in fact four years younger than Vincent Gallo.
Vincent Gallo would later claim that the cast was usually left on their own to direct their performances, as director Abel Ferrara would often stay in his trailer smoking crack when it came time to film their scenes.
Benicio Del Toro and Christopher Walken previously worked together in Basquiat 1995, and would go on and work together again in, Excess Baggage 1997.
According to Nicolas Cage, Abel Ferrara asked him to play Ray but Cage had obligations at the time and couldn't take the part.
