- [Rick has narrowly escaped by climbing a fence after being chased by a squad car]
- Rick Heller: Hey, that was pretty good. You guys are getting a lot faster.
- [as punishment for his bad behaviour, Rick's mother is forcing him to clean out the gorilla cage. She hands him a mop]
- Margaret Heller: Your hours are four to six, Monday through Friday. If you do better at school, and if you show some responsibility, we'll forget about military school. If not...
- Rick Heller: There's gotta be a law or something against this!
- [Katie is being displayed in a department store window]
- Rick Heller: [signing to Katie what he is saying] I want you out too.
- Lacey Carr: [surprised] You can talk to her.
- [Rick places his hand on the glass]
- Rick Heller: She doesn't belong in there.
- [while running through a forest, Rick trips and falls. A farmer with a shotgun approaches him]
- Farmer: Call that gorilla back here. Do what I say, boy.
- Rick Heller: Sorry. No can do.
- Farmer: I want that ape!
- [Behind them, Katie roars loudly]
- [Rick hands Katie a can of soda. She starts to shake it]
- Rick Heller: [annoyed; signing to Katie what he is saying] Whoa, whoa, whoa! What did I say about doin' that?
- [Katie signs something back]
- Rick Heller: Right. Not in the van. And where are you now?
- [She responds with a sign]
- Rick Heller: Right again. In the van. Look. Just wait a while before you open that thing, okay?
- [Katie seems to understand]
- Rick Heller: Look the way I see it, we're about a day away from Lacey's uncle's house.
- [Katie continues to handle the can. It bursts and Rick is covered with soda]
- Rick Heller: That wasn't long enough!
- Sergeant Bo Markle: [stares furiously at Bob] Lou, the dog just peed on my pants!
- Bob the Paramedic: [looks at the dog] Bad dog!
- Det. Lou Greenberg: Uh...
- [makes a contrary gesture]
- Det. Lou Greenberg, Bob the Paramedic: Good dog!
- Margaret Heller: [sees Rick playing with Katie] What on Earth do you think you're doing?
- Rick Heller: Just fooling around.
- [Katie pushes him, Rick pushes back]
- Margaret Heller: [has just picked up her son at the police station] Next time I'm not gonna pick you up. How about I let them keep you there for a few days. I'd get some peace!
- Donald Carr: Who's that?
- [stares at the silhouette of Katie beeping the car horn five times]
- Rick Heller: Oh that's my brother, sir. He's a musician.
- Donald Carr: I don't like you. You stay away from my daughter. You understand?
