A masterpiece by Jahnu Baruah.
Watch it if you want to experience great Assamese films. A genuine depiction of people lives about rural and urban areas, about selfish interest, about inhumanity, about responsibilities, about trust, about optimism and so on. This film gives a lot of it. A true masterpiece.
Jahnu baruah is a great storyteller. His slow paced serene realistic narrations will make you seated to his story. There is no unnecessary scenes in it. Every thing has little to high significance. Bishnu Khargoria is so genuine as the aged simple satisfied boatman who toils hard to bring up his only grandson, his last responsiblity. Arun Nath too is good as his son who undergoes transformation towards being selfish influenced by his wife. The BGM is truly apppealing as the rural assamese , the sound mixing too. The script is good too with all edges properly linked up. There may be a bit of dramatization in a few roles but that's little in front of the film's heavy theme. The set up is natural and no special effects are used. There are so many things to be mentioned but I am making it short now on.
The film ends with an optimistic note. Under the influence of his son's selfishness he too tries to turn bad. But he is changed by his grandson who is a good school going kid. This depiction really impressed me and I would vote a 10 for this, along being impressed with all the realistic characters throughout the film. Its a film about grandfather grandson relationship, and their lives with in relation to one another. It sets a great message of love, trust, responsibilities and optimism. The grandfather chooses finally to do good to upbring his grandson, despite having the chance to do evil. This makes him the hero, the protagony, the true example set for the next generation. Just watch it. A 99/100.
