When Cobra Kai returns to Netflix for its sixth and final season, the Karate Kid spinoff plans to expand the Miyagiverse significantly. The teen-focused drama Crane kicked martial arts action fans in the face in 2018, building on the Karate Kid legacy started by Ralph Macchio (Daniel Larusso), William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). With every season, Cobra Kai has grown through fan-service casting, interpersonal drama, and hard-hitting action. No one could have predicted the Miyagiverse would expand the way it has because of Cobra Kai, and now the show’s co-creator, Jon Hurwitz, says fans can expect Season 6 to explore the franchise in exciting ways like never before!
In a thread on Twitter/X, Hurwitz assured fans the final season of the series delivers big surprises, in-depth character flashbacks, and plot elements that expand the Miyagiverse.
“Season 6 expands the ‘Karate Kid/Cobra Kai’ universe more than the first 5 seasons combined.

Sony‘s untitled Karate Kid film is ready to make Ben Wang‘s heart go pitter-pat after adding Cruel Summer actress Sadie Stanley to the cast. Stanley plays the romantic lead opposite Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in the forthcoming marital arts drama, which also stars Joshua Jackson, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
Plot specifics remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master. With Chan and Macchio both appearing in the film, there’s a chance Wang’s character could train under two teachers. Jonathan Entwistle

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

In HBO Max's excellent miniseries "Beartown," a rural hockey coach explains why his team's enforcer punches his opponents so often. "He's not fighting. He's protecting the most important investment this town has ever seen." That investment is the team's star forward, and when a parent pushes this coach to elaborate further, he responds curtly, "Either you understand that aspect of hockey or you don't."
That brusqueness, both on the ice and off, could be why there are so few hockey films. It's a sport that you either understand or you don't, a wildly popular worldwide phenomenon that still mystifies and alienates many. A recent Gallup poll had football, baseball, basketball, and soccer ranked above hockey as Americans' favorite sports despite the NHL having more reach and organizations than the Mls and Nwsl combined. That means that the best hockey films aren't just good cinema, they're a gateway to understanding...

"The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers" brought a new generation of peewee hockey players to Disney+ last spring. In the show's first season, 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) was cut from the titular team, which had turned into an ultra-competitive powerhouse. His mother, Alex (Lauren Graham), formed a new team of ragtag underdogs called the Don't Bothers, and she even got some reluctant but much needed help from former Mighty Ducks coach and hockey player Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez), who had since become the owner of a low level ice rink.
Of course, by the end of the first season this team of misfits and their mismatched coaches banded together, and in an unofficial but crucial game with a high stakes bet, the Don't Bothers defeated the elite Mighty Ducks and took the team name for themselves. But in the upcoming second season of "Game Changers," the Ducks will be out...

“I’m going into the concrete!” a stoked Kenan Thompson exclaims, pondering the fact that his three-decade career in entertainment is about to be celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and taken by the permanence of the honor. “I don’t know any other example of a reflection of a pat on the back actually being cemented in the ground like that.”
Longevity has become a hallmark of Thompson’s career: he began performing as a child on stage before landing films including “D2: The Mighty Ducks”; segued into wildly popular teen stardom with the Nickelodeon’s sketch series “All That,” which led to the spinoff series “Kenan & Kel,” which in turn begat the 1997 film “Good Burger,” beloved by a generation.

For '90s kids everywhere, "The Mighty Ducks" wasn't just a fun movie to watch with your buddies after watching episodes of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" that your dad recorded off the TV, it was a way of life. Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) became the de facto father figure for a generation, and we all tried in vain to master the "knucklepuck" made famous by Russ Tyler (Kenan Thompson) in "D2: The Mighty Ducks," which made games of street hockey all the rage.

Ducks fly together. It was true in the 90s, and it’s still true in the new Disney+ series “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” — they’re just far more exclusive about who they’ll fly with now.
In this continuation, the Mighty Ducks are no longer the scrappy underdogs, and instead have become the “if you’re not a winner, you’re a loser” team. They’re led by Coach T (Dylan Playfair) who is blunt and apathetic, who cuts our new hero Evan Morrow from the team without so much as a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. He simply says “At this age, if you can’t be great at hockey, it’s like…don’t bother.
The kids on the team are all either high-strung or outright bullies. They’re the cool kids in school, and as soon as Evan is no longer one of them, he’s...

That sound you hear is every millennial quacking. Twenty-nine years after “The Mighty Ducks” skated into our hearts, introduced the Flying V and the Triple Deke, and launched not just two sequels, 1994’s “D2: The Mighty Ducks” and 1996’s “D3: The Mighty Ducks,” but an actual NHL team, the Mighty Ducks are flying again in Disney+’s new series “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” premiering Friday, March 26. Except this flock has a new name altogether.
Developed by Steve Brill, the original creator of the trilogy, Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, the 10-episode sequel series picks up in present-day Minneapolis and flips the script, a la “Cobra Kai,” as the Mighty Ducks are now the dominant force in youth hockey. After Coach T (Dylan Playfair) cuts her 12-year-old son, Evan Morrow (Brady Noon), from the Ducks, Alex (Lauren Graham) forms a new team of underdogs. Their name? The Don’t Bothers,...

In “The Mighty Ducks,” reluctant youth-hockey coach Gordon Bombay’s (Emilio Estevez) local Minnesota team went from worst to first. By 1994’s “D2: The Mighty Ducks,” the squad was literally the best in the world, winning the Junior Goodwill Games for the good ol’ U.S. of A.
TheWrap asked Estevez and screenwriter Steve Brill if that humongous plot leap, which of course saw the team benefit from a few non-Minnesota ringers, painted the franchise into an impossible corner for future projects.
“We did sort of max out on [‘D2: The Mighty Ducks’], but we just have to keep building these teams up and knocking them down,” Brill told us. “That’s the underdog story.”
Brill also really wanted to reiterate how much the outsiders helped the squad win its international competition. Of course, most of those kids were pretty limited to one skill themselves — and those didn’t all translate to the ice.

Like efficient railroads or universal healthcare, the annual Eurovision Song Contest is one of those international phenomena that most Americans refuse to acknowledge. Conceived in the 1950s as a way of bringing Europe together through the magical power of “light entertainment” and copious hairspray, Eurovision has basically evolved into the Olympics of pop music. But despite the fact that the competition has served as a launching pad for global superstars like Abba and Celine Dion, the average American couldn’t seem to care about it any less — we live in the imperialistic bubble of our own cultural-industrial complex, and even in the Bts era it’s hard to remain optimistic about a country that made Three Doors Down into platinum-selling artists while dismissing a visionary like Björk as the weird swan lady who dared to make the Oscars look cool for once. Game on: “The Mighty Ducks” reboot at Disney+ is a go, with Lauren Graham set to star as the new coach of the youth hockey team.
The series is set in present-day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.
The 10-episode series will begin production this month and debut later this year on the streaming service.

It’s hard to believe that the beloved coming-of-age baseball classic is two and a half decades old, but to celebrate the occasion, the film is coming back to select theaters and People sat down with the cast to reminisce about making the film and what the former child actors are up to now.

People who watched a lot of kids’ movies in the 1990s might remember Mike Vitar. For those who are unfamiliar with that name, Vitar was a child actor who appeared in a number of kids’ movies in that period of time. One excellent example was The Sandlot, which was a baseball movie in which he played the role of Benny the Jet, who was the single most important character besides the main character. Another excellent example were D2: The Mighty Ducks and D3: The Mighty Ducks, which saw him playing a member of the team named Luis Mendoza. Besides these

This Friday will see the release of a horror film called “Flatliners,” a movie title that should be instantly familiar to anyone who spent the ’90s trawling the shelves of their local video store in search of something — anything — to watch that weekend. Perhaps best remembered as the crusty VHS that was always sandwiched between “The Fisher King” and “Fried Green Tomatoes,” the original “Flatliners” was an asinine but atmospheric psychological horror thing that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, and Billy Baldwin as foolhardy med students who start experimenting with life after death. Nothing goes wrong and they all live happily ever after.
Now, perhaps motivated by the fact that the mere act of making a movie in 2017 feels like an experiment with life after death, Hollywood is about to unleash a remake starring Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons. Directed by Niels Arden Oplev,...

It really warms our hearts when the cast of a film remain friends after the film wraps. Which is why we love these photos of the cast of D2: The Mighty Ducks, who got together Sunday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film's release. The quack attack is back, Jack! Christopher Redman posted this photo of the cast forming the film's iconic "flying V" formation on a tennis court, and Marguerite Moreau posted pics with the other cast members, now all grown up. Notably missing: Joshua Jackson, Kenan Thompson, and Emilio Estevez. But despite those absences, there doesn't appear...

I just showed my kids the The Mighty Ducks for the first time recently, and they seemed to enjoy it. Now they want to be hockey players. I was surprised to learn that over the weekend there was a Mighty Ducks reunion for the 20th anniversary of the release of D2: The Mighty Ducks. I seriously can't believe it's been 20 years since the sequel came out! That makes me feel really old. The cast came together and posted photos of the event on Instagram, but one of the best ones was when they got together to form the famous "Flying V" from the movie. The photo above came with the follow caption:
"Flying V!!!! Scott Whyte, Aaron Schwartz, Colombe Jacobsen, mike Vitar, Stephen Herek, rob Lieberman, Vincent Larusso, @garretth Elden Henden, Carsten Norwgard, Jordan Kerner, Brandon Adams, Danny Tamborelli, Asron Lohr, Maria Ellingsen, Matt Dohery, Shawn Weiss #mightyducks #mD2 #20yearreunion...

There was a Mighty Ducks reunion over the weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of D2: The Mighty Ducks. But don.t worry if you.re instantly feeling depressed because you weren.t there to mark the occasion, because the cast has bombarded the internet with pictures to document their reconciliation. The posse even took it upon themselves to recreate their infamous Flying V formation from the films, but rather than standing on an ice-rink for the picture they used a tennis court instead. Despite this minor discrepancy it.s hard not to feel nostalgic looking at the group together again. But the fun didn.t stop there! The cast rallied together for numerous photographs as the afternoon wore on. Perhaps the most impressive of the batch transformation-wise was the thinned down Shaun Weiss, who infamously portrayed the rather portly goalkeeper Greg Goldberg in the franchise. You...

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the film’s release, and the cast of “Mighty Ducks” is making fans happy with a special reunion shot.
Proving that Ducks do, indeed, fly together, the cast of “D2: The Mighty Ducks” flocked together of the anniversary of their films release and posed for a now-viral shot.
Christopher Redman shared the awesome photo of the cast perfecting the Flying V pose from the famous hockey flick. And though they posed on a tennis court instead of the ice, it is still an awesome shot of the cast members.
In addition to the v, there were plenty of other awesome reunion shots including a photo of Marguerite Moreau, who played the lovable Connie.

If you heard the familiar "Quack, quack, quack!" refrain from "The Mighty Ducks" off in the distance this weekend, you weren't hallucinating: Most of the cast staged an epic reunion on Sunday in honor of the 20th anniversary of "D2: The Mighty Ducks," and recreated the film's iconic Flying V.
Marguerite Moreau, who played Connie in the "Ducks" trilogy, posted a series of photos to her Instagram account (along with her husband, Christopher Redman) documenting the awesome occurrence, complete with a massive, 21-person Flying V featuring just about every important character to grace the "Ducks" series throughout its three-film run.
Two glaring omissions, as pointed out by MTV, were Joshua Jackson and Emilio Estevez, a.k.a. Charlie Conway and Gordon Bombay, who somehow missed the memo about Sunday's gathering. While it doesn't seem like a true "Ducks" reunion without them, the number of cast members that assembled for the event was still pretty impressive,...
