Data from Antenna shows there’s a new cohort of serial churner out there for streamers to contend with, and the problem is likely to get worse.
The lack of long-term contracts for subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming services is one of the main features that sets them apart from traditional pay-tv plans. Viewers get the option to sign up for a service and cancel whenever they want with no fees, which has led to plenty of creativity among consumers as they try to dodge hefty subscription fee increases and still keep track of where their favorite titles are streaming. The media analytics firm Antenna has measured a 300% increase in the industry-wide cancelation rate as prices rise and the number of new streaming platforms increases, and now the company has identified a new group of churning customers: show chasers, who follow specific titles from platform to platform. Pop-Tarts is getting back at Jerry Seinfeld.
It all started when Seinfeld directed and co-wrote a movie, Unfrosted, about the origin of Pop-Tarts. He also stars in the film, which hits Netflix on May 3.
Unfrosted tells the (fictional) origin story of Pop-Tarts, which resulted in a race between breakfast rivals Kellogg’s and Post to create a pastry for the masses in 1963. While Pop-Tarts do indeed have an origin story, this is not it. (The idea had been percolating with Seinfeld for several years — he even made jokes about Pop-Tarts in his stand-up routine and once tweeted he was mulling over the idea of this film — but Pop-Tarts was not involved in the making of Unfrosted.)
“This really did happen in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s and Post were located, and they did compete to come up with this product,” Seinfeld has said. “But the rest of it is complete lunacy.

There are a number of TV series’ moments that are inscribed in cinematic history because they foretold some of the important events, which happened later, with some of them being likely to become true, while some others were totally unexpected.
Here are 5 TV series that predicted the future a little too accurately.
1. Star Trek (1966-1969) - Moon Landing
The original Star Trek is notorious for its predictions, the most remarkable of which is clearly the depiction of humanity's first landing on the moon. The 1967 episode titled Tomorrow Is Yesterday features a NASA broadcast reviewing the preparations for the game-changing moon landing. Two years later, the USA indeed became the first nation to set foot on the moon with the successful flight of Apollo 11.
2. Friends (1994 - 2004) - Facebook

With all the versatility of myriads of shows popping up in the media literally every day, the nostalgia for good old days (and their series) is still the undoubted winner — and fans have proved yet once again.
Around a week ago, a heated discussion was provoked by one user’s simple question about everyone’s most rewatchable show — and, judging by the amounts of mentions, two particular TV series reigned over the community.
The first choice made by most of the fans was an animated sci-fi sitcom Futurama, the first season of which got its release back in 1999. The plot follows sluggish pizza-deliverer Fry who, after being accidentally frozen, wakes up a thousand years later, in 2999 — and then he still gets to work at a delivery company, but alongside extraterrestrial mutants.

Sister Wives star Meri Brown sobs uncontrollably, with the TLC celebrity attributing her emotions to something that went missing. This is what caused her tears in a recent post.
Meri’s fans, who tune into her Friday with Friends online chat fest, know she’ll likely never get it back. By now, the Sister Wives celebrity’s missing object is likely a shriveled speck, swept up with a broom. Or, in a far-fetched theory, framed on a wall somewhere as celeb memorabilia.

CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" was a staple for American TV audiences of the '70s, thanks in large part to clever writing and Newhart's much-loved performance as psychologist and comedic straight man Bob Hartley. The show ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978, but it had a surprisingly long pop cultural afterlife. Characters from "The Bob Newhart Show" have popped up in everything from "Murphy Brown" to "St. Elsewhere" to "Alf," though their most famous reappearance came in the jokey "Newhart" finale in 1990. In it, Newhart wakes up in bed next to his wife from the previous series and discovers that this entire sitcom was all an elaborate dream. "The Bob Newhart Show," it turned out, was his real world.
When it wasn't being resurrected for increasingly meta crossovers, "The Bob Newhart Show" was a pretty straightforward sitcom about the life of a mental health clinician and the assortment...

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has ordered a pilot for Dinks, an improvisational style multi-cam comedy starring and executive produced by real-life married couple June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer. Grace & Frankie creator Marta Kauffman is writer, executive producer and showrunner of the project, which is produced by her Okay Goodnight banner, Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate Television.
Dinks (Dual Income No Kids) is about Josh (Scheer) and Charlie (Raphael), a couple who, in absence of a marriage or kids, decide to literally build a life together by renovating their nightmare of a dream house.
Alex Fernie is directing the pilot, which Kauffman co-wrote with Hannah K.S. Canter. Kauffman, Canter, Raphael and Scheer executive produce with Okay Goodnight’s Robbie Rowe Tollin. Jesse Schiller serves as a producer and Molly Arkin as a co-producer.

"Leprechaun" isn't a very good movie, but it did spawn an entire horror franchise, so that has to count for something. In addition to starring Warwick Davis as the titular demonic figure, the first "Leprechaun" film is perhaps best known for starring a pre-"Friends" Jennifer Aniston, playing one of the unlucky humans who goes up against Davis' horror movie villain. It was Aniston's second film role — her first being an uncredited background performance in the infamous "E.T." knock-off "Mac and Me." "Leprechaun" arrived in 1993, and a year later, "Friends" would help make Aniston a star. But before that, she was just a working actor looking for her big break. Lots of actors get their start in horror movies, so there's surely no shame in Aniston facing off against a killer leprechaun.
As it turns out, the studio that made "Leprechaun" — Trimark Pictures — thought Aniston was perfect for the final girl role they needed,...

Like many sitcoms, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" follows a group of friends initially grouped by their workplace (and family ties) who have become bound by their long history of antics with one another. Unlike most sitcoms, the gang on "Always Sunny" really does not act like they care about one another pretty much at all. Sure, characters on shows like "Seinfeld" and "How I Met Your Mother" are frequently snarky with one another, but they generally have one another's backs when things get tough. In the original pilot for "Sunny" that eventually became the season 1 episode "Charlie Has Cancer," Dennis (Glenn Howerton) visits his friend Charlie (Charlie Day) to borrow a basketball, only for Charlie to tell him that he has cancer, which makes Dennis do everything he can to leave without having to really help Charlie or deal with his discomfort in any way. It's brutal and brutally...

While aimed at kids, Dcau was no stranger to crossing boundaries by incorporating s-xual innuendos and double entendres into their shows in order to keep the adults hooked. Although Batman: The Animated Series, which started it all, and its successor had their fair share of adult jokes packed into them, with Justice League Unlimited, Bruce TImm took it a step further.
This was a result of the plethora of romantic subplots that were incorporated into the series, which also involved a surprising romance arc between Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. Later elaborating on it, Timm revealed it was a result of their experiment with the show’s format.

It is after someone passes that everyone truly understands the kind of person they were. Matthew Perry’s untimely passing shook the entire world to its very core. It was as though everyone had a sudden realization of their mortality all at once. Anyone who had ever been in close proximity to him all of a sudden remembered just how saintly of a person he was, feeling the need to share an anecdote.

Michael J. Fox, best known for his work in the Back to the Future series, is among these celebrities. For many years, he has had a nonprofit organization for Parkinson’s research called the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The actor revealed that Perry seriously helped the organization in its early years.
Not only did the Friends actor donate a huge sum to the non-profit, he also did not want his name attached to it.

Before I knew her as Archie Bunker's little girl Gloria on "All in the Family," I knew Sally Struthers as Rebecca Cunningham on "TaleSpin." A loving single mom and ambitious businesswoman whose outspoken personality belied her petite build, Rebecca -- aka "Becky," "Beckers," and the many other nicknames her responsibility-skirting, party-loving employee Baloo would use to refer to her -- was but one of many reasons to love the "Jungle Book"-inspired animated pulp period adventure series and Disney Afternoon staple. After years of trying (and failing) to keep the peace between her stubbornly conservative dad and her liberal, holier-than-thou husband Michael as Gloria in "All in the Family," Struthers was an expert in the art of sounding flustered, a talent that served her well on "TalepSpin."

American TV bosses obviously didn’t learn many lessons from “Episodes,” the Showtime/BBC co-production which brilliantly skewered the habit of adapting British sitcoms, and removing all nuances, subtleties, and idiosyncrasies in the process. In the 13 years since its premiere, there’s been numerous failed pilots (“Spy”), ratings disasters (“Free Agents”), and entire series considered unfit for public consumption (“Us and Them”) which originated across the pond. Now the most singular UK comedy of the 2010s is going transatlantic.
The BAFTA-nominated “Friday Night Dinner” — which served up 37 episodes from 2011-2020 —stemmed from creator Robert Popper’s real-life secular Jewish family and their weekly Shabbat meals, explaining why everything from its suburban London home to its lovable oddballs feels so wonderfully specific. Disappointingly, Amazon Freevee’s “Dinner with the Parents” is as generic as its title.
The 10-part series on Freevee does attempt to retain some of the original’s quirks.

Claudia Winkleman is said to be returning to host a celebrity version of The Traitors, due to air in 2025.
Proving that there are few things more compelling to watch than a bunch of people conniving and scheming behind each other’s backs in a Scottish castle, The Traitors has been a confirmed hit for the BBC. The second series aired in January, and as we wrote at the time, it was manipulative but thoroughly addictive television.
According to Deadline, the series – which already has several incarnations in other countries – is about to be expanded further, with regular host Claudia Winkleman set to head up a celebrity version.
The series hasn’t been officially announced yet, but Deadline’s sources have said that an agreement between The Traitors’ production company Studio Lambert and the BBC “is close”. If it happens, the celebrity Traitors series will film in 2025 alongside a third series of the mainline show.

Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes of your favorite television show? Olivia Williams, a guest star on the hit NBC sitcom Friends, recently opened up about her “harrowing” time on set.
Even though Friends’ last episode aired in 2004, the sitcom is still a popular choice for comfort and comedy in today’s world. Getting cast as a guest star, thus, must have been a huge thrill back in the nineties. It meant getting closer to the main stars and also becoming more widely recognized. Some actors, though, have been candid about their less-than-refined experiences.

Olivia Williams spilled some tea about her time on Friends, and her experience was not great.
The 55-year-old actress appeared in the finale episode of the beloved sitcom’s forth season, where Ross (David Schwimmer) marries Emily (Helen Baxendale).
She has previously hinted that being a guest star on the show was not all that good for her. However, in a new interview she provided some explicit details about what went wrong.

“Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Olivia told the Independent.
She continued, alleging that the actress was yelled at one set: “At one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.

Olivia Williams, the BAFTA-winning actress and recent SAG Awards nominee as an ensemble member for her performance as Camilla Parker Bowles on “The Crown,” has worked on the British stage in classic and new productions. But in a new interview, she points to a beloved American sitcom as an “alarming” and “harrowing” experience when compared to other gigs.
Williams appeared as a bridesmaid in the fourth season finale, in which Ross (David Schwimmer) married Emily (Helen Baxendale) in London. (You may recall some zany hijinks at some historic landmarks.) Speaking with The Independent, the actress recalled the “alarming” experience of sharing a car with an elderly actress Williams described as “distinguished” and “very good” who was later berated by a producer and told, “You’re not funny!” According to Williams, the unnamed performer was not on set the following day.
“‘Friends’ was a brand,” she continued, “and you had to fit the brand.

Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Williams said, noting this actor was “distinguished” and “very good” but “at one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.

“Outwardly, he gives the impression that he doesn’t care very much,” Gary Oldman recently said about portraying a disgraced MI5 agent on the acclaimed AppleTV+ spy drama “Slow Horses,” explaining that underneath his disheveled exterior, there’s so much more to the man than what meets the eye. “He’s unkempt, and he uses it to play a game. It’s a defense mechanism, and I would say he cares a lot more than most.”
Oldman is mesmerizing in “Slow Horses” as the aloof and often contemptuous Jackson Lamb. He’s a pariah living out his twilight days as the begrudging leader of a group of fellow outcasts to whom he is almost comically obnoxious and offensive. He is truly captivating every time he’s on screen. So, a brilliant performance deserves a brilliant Emmy campaign. Collaborators and friends in real life, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, are co-anchors on screen in their hit Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show. They have known each other for over 20 years, and I’m not surprised they share the same taste in fashion.
Kicking off the 41st Annual PaleyFest LA at the Dolby Theatre on Friday, Witherspoon and Aniston wore coordinating black outfits as they participated in a panel discussion about their series, The Morning Show, which has been renewed for a fourth season.

Both actresses embraced quiet luxury and chose elegant business-casual attire, Aniston in pants and Witherspoon in a pencil skirt, which fit the event.

Robin Roberts missed the recent episode of Good Morning America, with a colleague filling in for the longtime anchor.
As GMA opened Friday, Rebecca Jarvis was at the desk with co-anchors Michael Strahan and George Stephanopolous.
The trio didn’t comment on Robin’s whereabouts, although she’s missed Friday episodes regularly.
She’d just returned to the morning show earlier in the week after traveling with friends and colleagues.
Robin went on a big trip to Cleveland, Ohio, to watch the NCAA Women’s College Basketball Championship Game featuring Caitlin Clark and Iowa against No. 1 South Carolina.
Following that event, Robin said a colleague encouraged her to stay in the city to witness the total solar eclipse, which was viewable near the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
She returned to GMA briefly until she was back on the road for another adventure, as she revealed to fans after her latest absence.
