Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time debuted on Friday with three episodes to make a first impression. After watching Episode 1, did you decide if you will stick with the already-renewed adaptation?
Let’s start with the undeniable positives. The series premiere, titled “Leavetaking,” is a thoroughly efficient rundown of what this series wants to be and who we should probably care about the most. The opening moments make the stakes clear. There are Aes Sedai, female wizards with extraordinary power, who roam this expansive world in search of dangerous men who can use the “One Power” but lose their minds as a result.

Like last year’s When The Bough Breaks, the new female-focused psycho-stalker thriller Unforgettable seeks to occupy that sweet spot between Fatal Attraction and the Lifetime Movie Network. Unlike that earlier film, though, Unforgettable goes for an R rating, allowing it to fully embrace the “erotic” in erotic thriller. So how did it end up being so, well, forgettable, right up until its howlingly campy climax?
The answer may lie in the film’s awkwardly self-conscious characterization of Julia (Rosario Dawson), an editor for an ill-defined storytelling website called Chapter Pad. It seems to be some sort of crowd-sourced publishing platform, but it’s hard to tell, as Julia never really does any work. She moves from San Francisco to Southern California to be with her stubbly fiancé, David (Geoff Stults), who obviously owns a craft brewery. (Potboiler thrillers rival romantic comedies in the preciousness of their protagonists’ occupations.) Julia...

Saturday Am Update: The Fate of the Furious is right on pace with expectations, bringing in an estimated $11.2 million on Friday, en route to a $35-38 million second weekend. Meanwhile, the film will remain the #1 film in the world this weekend as its international total as of last night is $636.3 million and the international weekend estimate is currently $171 million from 65 territories as it looks to top $910 million by Sunday and will cross $1 billion worldwide next week. Of the new releases, it looks like Disneynature's Born in China will lead the way after it brought in $1.59 million on Friday, on its way to an opening weekend three-day around $4.6 million or so. Opening day audiences gave the film an "A-" CinemaScore, which is pretty much typical for these features. Warner's Unforgettable is proving to be anything but as it brought in a meager $1.67 million on Friday and is looking at a $4.4 million opening weekend.

Welcome to this week’s “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide release movies. The Fate of the Furious made history last weekend as it captured the biggest worldwide opening ever with a staggering $532 million. The film somewhat disappointed stateside with $98.8 million, but Universal is undoubtedly pleased with the worldwide result. Many studios saw this coming and decided to stay away from the Furious wake. As a result, we have a pretty slow week of moderate openers including Born in China, The Promise, and Unforgettable.
Born in China
What we are excited about: Although not quite a yearly tradition, DisneyNature has released six nature documentaries over the Earth Day weekend since 2009. This year will bring us Born in China, which looks to be just what we have come to expect from the series. It looks to boast beautiful shots of cute animals and narrated by John Krasinski.

After calendar grosses for September and October were unable to improve on 2015 numbers, November 2016 saw a +7.6% uptick compared to November 2015 as 264 movies grossed nearly $960 million. This also puts the Holiday 2016 season up +13% to date compared to Holiday 2015 with 209 movies combining to gross over $1.15 billion compared to $1 billion from 215 movies at the same point last year. Additionally, while August, September and October only saw two films (Suicide Squad and Sully) top $100 million at the domestic box office, four November releases have already topped the century mark, led by Disney and Marvel's Doctor Strange with $222.2 million and counting. As noted, Doctor Strange led November's releases after opening over the first weekend of the month with $85 million and has since gone on to gross over $222 million. Strange was one of two Disney releases in November, the other being Moana, to gross over $100 million domestically adding to the studio's six films that have grossed over $100 million this year alone.

A baby gets a deadly Trouble (thanks to William). Jennifer finds the "heart of Haven." Dave turns out to be adopted. The show finally gives an explanation for those funky disappear/reappearing Guard tattoos.
And Audrey doesn't just solve a Trouble, she creates one.
So yes, this was a big episode. Considering that there's only one episode left in Season 4, that makes sense. Everything is hurtling toward a big finish, and it's getting dark very, very quickly.
Trouble of the week
As far as Troubles go, this week's is no "everything turns to cake." It is instead deadly.
A four-month-old baby named Aaron Harker suddenly has a cry that kills. The dead seem to be random (there was no consensus on whether or not they were) and keel over with a stopped heart seconds after hearing the screams.

• Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) is reportedly in talks to join Christopher Nolan’s (The Dark Knight Rises) time-travel epic, Interstellar. She’d be joining a cast that currently includes Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey. Since she’s started getting more significant roles, Chastain has never really ventured into pure science fiction territory (we’re not counting Take Shelter). She famously dropped out of Oblivion when offered the Zero Dark Thirty role, so we’re excited for her to take on a new kind of film. The two-time Oscar nominee (The Help, Zero Dark Thirty) is currently filming Liv Ullmann...

Back by popular demand! We present the first of James' look-backs at Star Trek: Tng's second season, kicking off with The Child...
Okay, I've given it some thought and since the overwhelming demand was to continue reviewing in order, that's what I'm going to do. Let's face it, after season one, how bad can it get?
Well…
2.1 The Child
It's season two, and that means everything's gone slightly different! Riker has a beard! Wesley has a halfway-decent uniform! La Forge has a job title! There's barely enough time to explain all of the changes they've made to the status quo before a weird tinkerbell-esque sprite of energy sneaks onto the Enterprise and merges with a sleeping Deanna Troi. This can mean only one thing: we're heading for a Troi-centric episode. First one back? Really? Okay…
After the credits, Picard starts asking what's happened...

James' weekly return to Star Trek: Tng's first season comes to an episode that's Star Trekky at its core...
This review contains spoilers.
1.18 Home Soil
The Enterprise arrives at Velara III to check on the progress of a terraforming colony (if you can call four people a colony) and are surprised to find that the leader, Kurt Mandl, is far from pleased to see them. Troi helpfully informs everyone of this fact about nine times in the first ten minutes, just in case you missed it, although she once again declines to explain how her empathic abilities work over videophone.
An away team beams down to the planet and meets the rest of the crew: Hydraulics Specialist Arthur Malencon, Biosphere Designer Luisa Kim, and chief Engineer Bjorn Bensen. Bensen, on meeting Data, is surprised to be talking to an android and asks "Where were you made?...

The Enterprise's children are abducted by infertile artists in this week's Star Trek: Tng look-back. Here's what James made of it all...
This review contains spoilers.
1.17 When The Bough Breaks
The Enterprise follows a strange "breadcrumb trail" of energy to an apparently abandoned star system. Riker, arriving on the bridge fresh from bumping into some of the ship's many families (heretofore almost entirely unseen) is pleased to learn that they've reached Epsilon Mynos, the home of the ancient, mythical planet of Aldea, a world where computers take care of your every need and leave you to pursue the arts. But spoiler alert! It turns out it's not so mythical after all.
Troi suddently senses the presence of... something -- feelings, or whatever -- which turns out to be the planet Aldea. Because apparently, she's so sensitive she can detect an entire civilisation (of about nine people) from hundreds,...

The contents of the upcoming Blu-ray release of the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation have been revealed.
It appears that Paramount have really tried to make this box set extra special. Apart from the cleaned up image and recreated special effects (which we have already reviewed from our sampler disc Here), you are going to get tons of backstage footage and interviews. Star Trek experts Mike and Denise Okuda will also take you through the effort gone into bringing The Next Generation to High Definition.

Our reviews for this past week are down a couple of shows, thanks primarily to baseball. Fringe was a no-show on account of the former, and Supernatural offered us a repeat of this season's premiere.
That said, we've got some new entries in the mix, which we'll be continuing as well. Blaine Kyllo chimes in with his thoughts on this past week's episodes of House, 30 Rock and Dollhouse (the latter of which returned to the airwaves after a one week absence).
With choices reduced on account of America's favorite pastime, viewers had a second look at shows they might have otherwise missed the first go-round, in their quest for something to watch, and this benefited FlashForward, which earned its best audience since its second week, picking up a 6.2 rating/10 share.
Meanwhile, according to the stats, Fringe, which has been a big ratings loser in its sophomore season, saw an uptick the week ending Oct.

(S02E05) I'm really glad this episode ended the way it did, because I was about to be pissed. Obviously Castle isn't going to stop writing the Nikki Heat books and leave Beckett, so I was expecting him to make some asinine excuse to his book agent about why he couldn't take over the James Bo-- er, a "British secret agent with lots of gadgets" series.
But in the end, the excuse of, "hey, my publishing house is going to just dump sacks with dollar signs printed on the front of them on my doorstep so I can make a Scrooge McDuck-like swimming pool out of gold, so screw that British agent and his gadgets," kind of works for me. However, all things being equal, if Castle had gotten the same offer and he had been following around, say, Esposito instead of Beckett, I feel like maybe the prestige of...

See a new sneak peek clip from ABC's "Castle," starring This one's from the upcoming "When the Bough Breaks" episode which airs on October 19th at 10 p.m. Et. The clip is called "Unusual Crimes." When viewers first met Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), a famous mystery novelist and divorced father raising his teenage daughter (Molly Quinn as Alexis), while being kept grounded by his Broadway diva mother (Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers), he was creatively blocked. But when the NYPD questioned him in connection with a series of murders staged to imitate crime scenes from his books, Castle found inspiration in the form of Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic)...
