The Veil is a spy thriller series created by Peaky Blinders and Taboo‘s Steven Knight. The FX miniseries follows the relationship between two women working as spies as they travel from Istanbul to Paris and London, as one of them tries to expose a secret that the other one is hiding. If the secret is not exposed thousands of lives will be potentially in danger.
While The Veil is starting slowly, it doesn’t mean it is not building up to something incredibly thrilling and intensely dramatic. The premiere of The Veil is certainly setting up a story that could be entertaining to watch and if you are also on board to watch the series like I am, then here are the dates new episodes will be available.

Fatih Akin, the 44-year-old German director of “In the Fade” (December 29, Magnolia Pictures) seemed both bemused and philosophical the night after his film’s surprise Best Foreign Language win at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards. “The story is like a German team won a big sports victory in the local newspapers,” he noted from the Palm Springs International Film Festival, 5,000 miles away from Berlin.
“In the Fade” is the fictionalized story of a German woman (Cannes Best Actress winner Diane Kruger) who demands justice after her immigrant husband and their son are victims of a terror attack. They turn out to have been targets of white nationalists who are arrested and put on trial. Based on real-life events but fictionalized (the actual case that served as a starting point is still not resolved in local courts), it is a compelling thriller as well as a drama about justice and racism.

Dear Danny and Kelley,What a joy this time of the year to reconnect with old cinephile friends, and to meet new ones. The film festival I’ve been to more times than any other, Tiff seems to grow more personally important with each new visit—as a locus of discovery, an escape from the routine, a sanctuary and a labyrinth, exhausting and intoxicating. Could even a vérité master like Frederick Wiseman capture all its contradictions? The cinema and people I encounter during my ten days here comprise a refuge, a reminder of sublime possibilities in the midst of brutish realities. Art keeps the beast at bay, or so they say. Indeed, the very first film I saw, Alain Gomis’ Félicité, opens with just such a clash. In a roisterous Congolese bar, various squabbles hush up as a woman steps up to the microphone for a fierce, gorgeous song. As...

Perhaps a surprise inclusion after The Cut was unceremoniously not selected for Cannes on his last time out, not including his pair of Special screening docus (Crossing the Bridge in 2005 and Polluting Paradise in 2012), along with the Best Screenplay winning 2007’s The Edge of Heaven (an arguably still his best feature in a filmography that began with the 1998’s Locarno selected Short Sharp Shock) this is technically only his second time in the big ring.

Black or White is the story of a grandfather, Elliott Anderson (Kevin Costner), who is suddenly left to care for his granddaughter, Eloise (Jillian Estell), by himself. But, when her paternal grandmother, Rowena Jeffers (Octavia Spencer), seeks custody with the help of her lawyer brother (Anthony Mackie), poor Eloise is caught between two families. With the best intentions, both families fight for what they feel is right and are soon forced to confront their true feelings about race, forgiveness, and understanding.

First off, I have to tell you that this page may load slow. We're making an awful lot of calls to the Amazon Api here, and that's bound to monkey with things. If you have no idea what that means... it's shiny. Please note also that, for the same reason, you may find, depending on traffic, that not all of the Amazon details will load properly. I apologize for that, it's just the nature of the beast, and the fact that the Api wasn't really meant for such things. If you refresh, it will probably fix.
You may have heard me mention this giveaway quite a while ago, and it's taken me a long time to figure out what sort of format to put things in, and I kept added things. Eventually it became too much to really give any kind of run down on the items, so I decided...

To celebrate the release of The Bridge on the River Kwai, out Now, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have given us three copies of the movie to give away on Blu-ray.
One of the all-time great war films, The Bridge On The River Kwai is yet another classic from the marvelous David Lean (Lawrence Of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago). The film is an outstanding, psychologically complex adaptation of Pierre Boulle’s 1952 novel, a classic story of English POWs in Burma forced to build a bridge to aid the war effort of their Japanese captors. British and American intelligence officers conspire to blow up the structure, but Col. Nicholson (a fabulous Alec Guinness), the commander who supervised the bridge’s construction, has acquired a sense of pride in his creation and tries to foil their plans. Although credited to screenwriter Carl Foreman, the script was actually written by blacklisted writer Michael Wilson. The film garnered seven Academy Awards,...

Though the multitalented Tom McCarthy, 45, made his acting debut in Mike Binder's Crossing the Bridge (1992), the nineties gave him very little follow-up work. But in the 2000s things began to happen for him, including small parts in movies like Meet the Parents (2000), The Guru (2002), Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), Syriana (2005), and Flags of Our Fathers (2006). However, McCarthy answered his true calling when he was able to write and direct his first film, The Station Agent (2003).
That film may have seemed on the surface a slight, indie comedy, but had subtle depth of character in addition to sharp writing, clever casting, and strong performances, and it was a modest success story. The same thing happened with McCarthy's second film, The Visitor (2008), which still serves as a model for cross-cultural Hollywood tales. An achingly good Richard Jenkins earned an Oscar nomination for his lead performance. McCarthy himself...

Ant So It Begins….
Picked once again for the Bush Tucker Trial, the rest of the camp mates rallied around her. Alison commented that its “getting boring now” whilst Dom told a tearful Gillian, “because you scream and they love it.”
Lembit tried to help Gillian, who was being comforted by Jenny, by encouraging her to hold an ant in her hand. Refusing to do that, she was finally talked into letting it crawl on her hand.
Lembit then said, “It’s the first time in her life she’s voluntarily exposed herself to direct contact with an ant. It sounds like a small thing but it is monumentally important.”
Lembit and Sheryl walk Gillian to the bridge, on the way Linford said: “You’re Scottish aren’t you? You’re the toughest people in the British Isles, the Scots.”
Crossing the bridge, Gillian saw a spider and chose to crawl part of the way.

Chicago – David Lean’s “The Bridge on the River Kwai” is one of the most beloved epics of all time and not only has the film been restored for a massive Blu-ray Collector’s Edition release but a new print will roll at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago starting Friday, November 12th, 2010. If you’ve never seen the 1957 Best Picture winner, there’s never been a better time.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.5/5.0
“The Bridge on the River Kwai” was a massive hit when it was released in 1957, winning seven Oscars, including Director (David Lean), Actor (Alec Guiness), Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Score, Cinematography, and Picture. It beat “12 Angry Men” and “Witness For the Prosecution” for the big prize and has made multiple lists of the best films of all time. When the American Film Institute did their first list of the best 100 films ever made in 1998, “The Bridge on the River Kwai...

Italian-American actor-director John Turturro is beloved by the Italians—Venice Fest audiences treat him like a huge star. In fact, ill-fated Romance and Cigarettes, which was caught in the backdraft at the end of United Artists, was such a hit in Italy that financeers stepped up to hire Turturro to direct a doc about the music of Naples. Passione is not unlike Fatih Akin’s Crossing the Bridge: it’s a “musical adventure” showcasing the music, old and new, of Naples, via a mix of old footage and new performances by the city’s top artists. The film was exhilarating, and more than one moviegoer walked out of the theater humming. I also admired Turturro's Mac and Illuminata, even though American moviegoers have yet to click with his movies. I ...

Turko-German director Fatih Akin must surely be one of the most diverse talents currently working in Germany. He blew our minds with the hard edged, cathartic drama of Head On before moving on to the fabulous music doc Crossing the Bridge and now returns to the kind of light comedy where he began his career with Soul Kitchen. Find me another director with three more different films packed so tightly into their resume and I'll eat my shirt. Here's how the Toronto International Film Festival described Akin's latest when it screened there:
Zinos Kazantzakis (Adam Bousdoukos) runs Soul Kitchen, a vast warehouse diner where the food might be spectacularly bad, but it's edible. Regulars show up every day to chow down on bland lumps of carbs washed down by cheap beer. Beats sitting at home.
Zinos seems to have a knack for bad luck, but he's used to it. His...

Fatih Akin's 2003 feature Head-On was about a marriage of convenience, and his 2005 documentary Crossing The Bridge covered Istanbul's diverse music scene, but both were really about how the increasingly intermingled Turkish and German cultures try to heal their schisms through contrivance—whether by blending musical genres, finding loopholes in the law, or submitting to the will of the European Union. Now in The Edge Of Heaven, the writer-director returns to the idea of people trying to will their way to happiness. As the movie opens, elderly gambler Tuncel Kurtiz meets middle-aged prostitute and fellow Turk Nursel Köse in Bremen's red-light district, and offers to pay her to be his, exclusively. Köse agrees, then dies suddenly, leaving Kurtiz's son Baki Davrak to locate Köse's grown daughter Nurgül Yesilçay back in Istanbul. Davrak quits his job as a German professor and buys a German bookstore in Turkey, unaware that Yesilçay is.
