To pay homage to Rod Serling, show creator D.J. MacHale had the kids say "Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society" at the beginning of each story. To introduce each episode of The Twilight Zone (1959), Serling would say to the audience, "Submitted for your approval..."
All the campfire scenes were actually shot inside a studio in Quebec, within a week so the crew wouldn't have to rebuild the set.
The substance in the bag that makes the campfire smoke-up during the title of each story is non-dairy creamer or sugar.
A feature film of the show starring the second generation cast of the Midnight Society was planned by D.J. MacHale around 1998. According to MacHale, Nickelodeon canceled it after he refused to change the script he gave them to be less dark.
In order to find the actors for the show, show creator D.J. MacHale toured the entire North American continent himself.
