The Krites -- the titular "Critters" from the eponymous film series -- are small, furry, extraterrestrial eating machines that are essentially dry-land piranhas. Krites only have impulses toward consumption and chaos. They have human intelligence, but are far more interested in eating than philosophy. The first "Critters" movie, directed by Stephen Herek (of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Mr. Holland's Opus" fame) is one of the world's only Easter-themed horror movies, centering on a small Iowa town that discovers Krite eggs and paints them for the Sunday festivities. Naturally, the eggs hatch and the hungry Krites begin wreaking mayhem. Only a pair of alien bounty hunters named Ug (Terrence Mann) and Lee can help in stopping the alien threat.
The Krites can roll up into balls like hedgehogs and trundle quickly from place to place. They can also fire poisonous quills from their backs. They're mean little mothers.

Brad Dourif has had an incredible acting career that stretches back more than fifty years – and back in the early days of that career, he even earned a “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Over a decade later, he started playing the role he is best known for, that of Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll. Dourif is now 74 years old, so when we hear that he has decided to retire from acting, it’s totally understandable… but while talking about his retirement, Dourif has also made sure to assure fans that his days of Chucky are not over. He will still continue to work on any Chucky projects that might come up.

Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.
Fans of the show know where some of the original film's cast members ended up, but what about the rest? Shot in Chicago, "Child's Play" made use of several local stage talents, as well as a few veteran actors and familiar faces. Can you...

The episode of The Black Sheep covering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.
Speaking of that last genre, DC lovers will be pleased to note that 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the Dceu, is among the titles arriving on October 1st. Besides that, there’s a bunch of animated DC pics dropping the same day, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman. 2005’s Constantine featuring Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, also debuts on the service from the 1st.

We all knew it was going to happen at some point: Fast & Furious 9 is going to space. The long-running franchise has caused vehicular havoc all over the world, but it seems that one planet just isn’t enough to contain action this intense. After all, the action has been gradually becoming more and more outrageous the longer the series extends, with the most recent spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw essentially being a superhero movie in disguise.
According to multiple sources, the same ones who revealed that Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart had cameos in the aforementioned Hobbs & Shaw, and that Keanu Reeves is in talks to join the franchise, which has since been confirmed – Fast & Furious 9 will be heading to space. It’s unclear why or how the gang get there, or even which members of the crew will end up in the stars, but we’ve been...

The classic Critters horror film franchise is returning in the form of a TV series that’s set for streaming service Shudder.
Critters may be but one of several campy horror franchises from the 1980s to – akin to the soon-to-be-animated Gremlins – feature diminutive multiplying mini-monsters, but the imagery of its eponymous alien invaders – resembling demonic bipedal versions of Star Trek Tribbles with shark teeth and T-Rex arms – make them especially memorable, even if the poster image of the toilet monster from Ghoulies was more memorable in its ability to make tense experiences out of nature’s call for a generation. Regardless, Critters is getting a long-overdue return.
AMC Networks’ horror-centric Shudder streaming service will be the platform for a revival television series bearing the meta-minded title, Critters: A New Binge. Moreover, the series is arriving a lot sooner than you might have thought, since the announcement reveals...

Remember Critters? You know, they were kind of like Gremlins but not as good? Well, they’re back courtesy of Syfy, who’s on a mission to resurrect long-dormant horror franchises.
Back in October, they announced their plans to make new movies about cult classics Killer Klowns From Outer Space and Critters. We’ve heard nothing as yet about the former, but it’s sounding as though it’s all go for the hungry, mischievous and toothy space monsters. That’s according to Production Weekly, at least.
They’ve confirmed today that the movie’s set to enter full production in January over in South Africa with Adam Friedlander and Armond Leo producing. As yet, we don’t have any inkling of the plot, cast or directors, but this is Critters, so it’s pretty easy to suss out the gist of what’s going to happen.

You might want to keep an extra eye on the sky, because Syfy is reportedly looking to make new Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Critters films.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Syfy is "in talks to license the rights" to move forward with movies based on Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) and Critters (1986).
While no deal has been finalized at this time, this licensing move gels with the direction Syfy is taking with some of their upcoming content. As Bloody Disgusting points out, the network is already moving forward with Leprechaun Returns, a new sequel in the Leprechaun franchise that will premiere on Syfy in March of 2019.
Should Syfy acquire the license to the rights for Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Critters feature films, it's not known if they will remake or continue the pre-established stories from the original movies. Although it's a cult film beloved by many, Killer...

I was about 8 years old the first time I saw the inside of a nursing home. This wasn't a senior apartment complex or an assisted living facility. It was a depressing place with fluorescently lit rooms for sleeping and a television room for visiting. And it was full of people that time forgot and especially people who forgot time.
My step-grandfather had Alzheimer's and for some reason my parents thought bringing a strange little girl to visit him would lift his spirits as if he wasn't confused enough.
I'll never forget the moment when I walked through the doors into the waiting room. An elderly woman who I had never seen before in my life bent down until she met me at eye level, smiled, and said, "I remember you when you were just a baby."

"American Horror Story: Coven" star Angela Bassett stopped by "Watch What Happens Live" on Thursday (Nov. 21), where a caller asked her if she's returning for "American Horror Story" Season 4.
"You know, I can't confirm it, but I've been hearing that rumor too here, there and everywhere. It's definitely something to consider, because it's been a good ride. ... It was picked up, but I haven't officially been asked to come back," says Bassett, adding that working with Jessica Lange has been "wonderful" -- "She's incredible."
Bassett also played a quick-fire Q&A with host Andy Cohen about her former co-stars:

This is the end my friends. This is the last of the last and the absolute worst in the series of Critters movies. I’m afraid we don’t have much to offer you in the way of consolation, but I can assure you that you will find this installment of Dead Air will be amusing. By amusing I mean we have very little technical or contextual analysis to provide with Critters 4, so you’ll have to settle for Jeff Konopka and Jimmy Terror ripping it apart. With humor. And love… well, with love of at least the two previous entries in the Critters series in mind.
We’ll make sure to recap the entire series, figure out how the old Krites got back into space and moved well into the future with the likes of Angela Bassett and Brad Dourif of all people (though this might be considered...

As is creator Ryan Murphy's way, it is not confirmed that the recently booked actresses are going to be witches in the upcoming season of American Horror Story, but with a subtitle of Coven and a largely female cast, I'm playing the odds here.
First up is Angela Bassett, best known for her Academy Award-nominated portrayal of Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do With It. Films that FEARnet readers are likely more familiar with include Critters 4, Innocent Blood, Boyz in the Hood, and Malcolm X.
Next is Patti LuPone. Best known for her work on Broadway (she won Tonys for roles in Evita and Gypsy and starred in Broadway productions of Sweeny Todd and Les Miserables, among others), LuPone has appeared in films (Summer of Sam and Heist to name a few) and had memorable guest roles on TV shows like 30 Rock.
