The Green Room..
Filmmaker Kosta Nikas and businessman Peter Lord have created a free networking and job creating app and website for screen industry practitioners.
The founders say The Green Room enables users to access information about projects and crew availabilities and to connect with peers who have shared experiences and interests in ways that were not possible before.
While the target market primarily is Australia, the app has been downloaded more than 3,300 times in around 50 countries including the Us, the UK, Colombia, Canada, India, Nigeria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, France, Sweden and Germany since the iPhone version was launched six weeks ago, followed by the Android version.
The app is designed as a communications tool for virtually anyone involved in the production of audio-visual content, from features, shorts and docos to a fashion shoot.
The founders are developing the technology to encompass more sectors within the creative industries.

On Thursday evening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, the Academy invited movie fans to join in the celebration of the work of this year’s Oscar nominees in the Animated Feature Film category. Although not pictured above, director Tim Burton was on hand for the panel discussion hosted by actor Rob Riggle (Hotel Transylvania, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax).
The nominees discussed how their films were developed, talked about their creative processes, and presented clips illustrating their techniques. All were adamant in saying that animated films are not cartoons and that there is place for both stop-motion and CGI in the genre.
The Animated Feature Film nominees are:
Brave
Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman
This is the second nomination for Mark Andrews and the first in this category. He made his feature directorial debut with Brave.
After interning at Disney, Andrews worked as a story-board artist on several films.

There wasn’t a whole lot on offer last week with Hunger Games unequivocally eclipsing all the other releases. It’s received fairly unanimously positive reviews and looks like being the first box-office smash of the summer. Meanwhile both The Kid With a Bike and Wild Bill have received their own fair share of plaudits and would appear to be well worth seeking out.
This time out though there’s a wide range of releases hitting the screens ranging from big-budget mythological blockbuster and animated piracy adventure to hard-hitting prison documentary and a ghastly looking vampire spoof.
If you want to check to see if any of these films are playing near you, you can visit Find Any Film and they’ll be able to help.
